Chapter 5

Penulis: William Stays Tonight
I had been looking at a vase at the end of the bed. When the man lowered his head, I grabbed the vase and smashed it on his head with every ounce of strength I had.

He grunted and fell unconscious to the side with his head covered in blood.

I tried to calm myself down as I panted breathlessly while my heart beat wildly. I kicked the man to the side and made a run for it.

I quickly got out of bed, but my wedding gown had been torn to shreds. I could only pick up the man's coat to put on myself, despite it being barely enough to cover my body. After that, I ran out in a panic.

However, I had no idea where to run after I got out of the room. Everyone here wanted to catch me. What should I do? Oh, the police! I should call the police!

I found another room on the same floor and called the police right after I made sure no one else was in the room. The call was picked up very quickly.

"Officer, please help me! Come quickly to help me! I'm at St. Elias Church. My husband sold me to 30 men! Please save me. I'm hiding in a room at the end of the corridor on the tenth floor!"

I quickly described the situation to the police, believing they would arrive very soon. When the police arrived, I would be safe!

I obediently hid inside the room, feeling hopeful. I thought I might need to wait a while for the police to arrive, as the police station was some distance away. I was surprised to hear steady knocking on the door not long after.

A crisp male voice was heard next. "Open up, Ms. Warwick! It's the local police. We received your call, and we're here to provide backup. Please cooperate with us and open the door."

The police were here! How wonderful! I would finally be saved!

I was overjoyed as I lunged toward the door. Just as my fingers touched the ice-cold metallic door handle, a sudden chill gripped my heart. I paused. I had a feeling I had forgotten something.

My heart kept beating wildly while I frowned. It felt like my heart was frantically trying to remind me that I had forgotten something very important.

It was an indescribably horrible feeling that prompted me to stand on tiptoe and hold my breath while I slowly leaned forward to peek through the door's peephole.

Outside the door stood three men in police uniform. The policeman in the lead was a big, tall man. His broad shoulders were almost bursting through the shoulder lines of his uniform. His hard, bulging muscles looked menacing.

When my gaze swept across their faces, it felt like the blood in my body froze. I held my breath. I could hardly breathe at all.

It was them! That was right! I remembered them now. In my nightmare, three of those horrible 30 men were in police uniform! Three policemen had arrived right after I called the police. They were part of those 30 men!

I covered my mouth. My nails dug into my flesh, but I did not dare make a sound. I was trembling all over as I backed away step by step. Every step felt like I was walking on the tip of a blade. All I could do was stare at the thin door with fear.

Those people outside could barge through the door the very next second and drag me off to an endless hell.

They knocked on the door again, and it scared me so much that my heart almost stopped.

"Ms. Warwick, are you inside? Ms. Warwick! We're policemen here to help you. Why aren't you opening the door?" The people outside started to get impatient when no one answered the door.

"What's going on? Are you sure she's inside that room?"

"She said she was."

"Damn it! Could she have found out about us?"

"Who cares? Let's just knock the door down."

When I heard them plan to knock down the door, I quickly took action by looking around me. I immediately moved the wardrobe and chairs over to block the door.

The crash was deafening. The entire door became slightly crooked from the impact. The sight scared me tremendously as cold sweat covered my forehead. No! That door was not strong enough to stop them.

I had to escape. I had to find a way to leave this room right away! If they got through that door, there would be no way for me to escape.

The door started to move. I was in so much panic that I could not think. The door could not hold them off any longer. What should I do?

For a moment, I was taken aback, but I was quickly reminded of Owen and Sophia. Vincenzo noticed me looking a little down, and he spoke up once more. "They've been caught. They're downstairs right now. Do you want to see them?"I shook my head. Call me weak, but I really did not want to see their disgusting faces ever again."How do you want me to take care of them?" Vincenzo was really considerate of my feelings. When he noticed that I was avoiding the topic, he looked at me tenderly. "If you don't want to get your hands dirty, I can handle them for you."I chose the latter without hesitation. "You can make any decision you want. There's no need to tell me the results." After all, I had decided to forget about them from this day onward.Vincenzo smiled. He was done helping me change my medication and bandages. He walked out after washing his hands and kissed me on the corner of my lips. "I wasn't planning on telling you because… I'd get jealous."His sudden loving words to me, wh

The glass shards reflected under the bright sun as I jumped out of the broken window. Lady Luck was once again on my side. It was the fifth floor, but I did not fall straight to the ground. Instead, I landed on a balcony on the third floor. My body was covered in minor cuts from the glass, and I could feel the searing pain of different degrees on my arm and my right calf. Someone had attacked my arm, and my right leg got hurt from smacking against the balcony's railing when I jumped out of the window. The intense pain almost knocked me out as I saw black. They would not give me much time to catch my breath. I had to run! I had no choice but to jump from the third floor. I forced myself to turn and leap off the balcony, as I was worried those men would get downstairs before I did. That was when someone I was somewhat surprised to see appeared outside the door. "Emma." Owen gave me a troubled look. It seemed to pain him to see me this way. "Does it hurt?" He reached out in an attemp

"Stop it, you bitch! Let Gray go!""Gray? What the hell! What did you stab Gray with in the neck?""Damn it, you bitch! Have you any idea who Gray is?!"I had no idea who Gray was, but I guessed he was the most powerful person among this group of men. I had been observing them all this time, and I figured one of them held the highest position, or there could even be several of them in high positions. It was not long before I identified three people who fit the profile. The first was Peter, the second was the leader of the policemen, and the third was Gray. After all, he had not hidden the fact that he nearly had me to himself, and no one had seemed mad about it. That meant he was someone of high position. If I could hold one of them hostage, there was still a chance that I could escape. Peter and the lead policeman were big, tall men. I had no way of subduing them. Gray was the only one among them who was wounded. I might have a chance of attacking him if I just found a window of

If Sophia had only talked to me about this, things would probably not have turned out this way, but this was also partly my fault. If I had been more concerned about Sophia, I might have discovered it in time. Unfortunately, it was all too late."Sophia, I won't hate you. We're even now, but from now onward, we're no longer friends."When Sophia heard my words, the expression on her face vanished. She stood before me and stared stoically back at me. She slowly spoke with a troubled look in her eye. "I hate you, Emma. I really, really do hate you."She turned to run downstairs in a fluster after that. I did not run because there was nowhere for me to go. Those men had surrounded me by coming from upstairs and downstairs."You can really run, my dear." It was the first man who had been on the phone, Peter Branzino. He smiled as he appeared behind me to block my way as I backed away from everyone else."Baby, you're so hot, but I don't like it when you do things like this. You need t

My eyes widened as I stared at Vincenzo for several seconds before I turned away to make a run for it. I was in a fluster when I ran off. There was only so much I could take. It was him! He was Vincenzo Corleone! I was in so much shock when I ran off that I did not even close the door behind me. Naturally, I also missed the slightly despondent look in the eyes of the man behind me.I had run down several floors when I finally heard someone call out my name."Emma? Is that you, Emma?""Sophia?" I lunged forward at her with happy tears on my face when I saw the person waiting for me downstairs. "It's so wonderful to see you, Sophia. I thought I could never see any of you again!" I hugged Sophia tightly and exclaimed in agitation."Everything is fine now, Emma. We can go home now." Sophia moved stiffly before reaching out to pat me on the shoulder to comfort me. I quickly collected myself but found it a little strange when I saw only Sophia there. "Where's Sam and William? Didn't

It was not Owen calling me but Sophia, my best friend! I picked up the call happily. "Sophia?""Emma! Where have you been? I've been looking everywhere for you, and Owen refuses to tell me where you are. Are you alright?!" Sophia's worried voice was heard coming from the other end of the call.Tears could not help falling from my eyes. "I'm fine, but there are lots of people trying to catch me. I can't leave just yet. You should go home right now, and don't contact Owen. I'll explain everything to you later."I had no idea what Owen and those men planned to do, and I was worried Sophia might get implicated if they could not find me. All I wanted was for her to quickly leave this dangerous place."Are you still inside the church?""I am."Sophia suddenly sounded really happy. "That's great! Come down right now. I'm at the entrance. Come over, and you can leave under our protection.""Are there more people with you?" I was taken aback.Sophia replied, "Of course. Sam and William
