KAEL

I heaved a sigh and rose to my feet.

He was seemingly right. By logic, he wasn’t supposed to know about Elora. Varek Valewind made sure that knowledge of her never went past the tower she had been kept in as a child. Selene Valewind was his shining star, and the people of Stormrider sang her praises. She was their Luna afterall, my wife.

She had also been terribly displeased when I told her of my decision to search for Elora.

“Are you really going to leave me behind and venture into the enemy’s den because of a girl you know is dead? She was attacked and killed. Why should it matter?” Selene had said.

I couldn’t understand why she was so full of hate towards her sister.

“Why should it matter? How can you ask me that, Selene? She was your sister! If she’s been killed by the enemy, don’t you think she deserves vengeance? Don’t you even want to see her body? Don’t you want to give her the burial rites she deserves?”

Selene let out a scoff as she rose to her feet that night. W

ELORA How much more stupid could I possibly be? How many more times did Kael have to make a fool of me for me to understand that I was nothing, absolutely nothing to him! All he had to do was host a party, come to my rescue, and treat me to dinner, and I had forgotten why I was back home in the first place: to find out the truth about everything that had happened to me. Tears rushed down my eyes, my heart twisted in my chest…it was severely painful. Between my shattering heart and how fast I was running, I was barely able to breathe until I pushed my room door open.I threw myself on my bed and screamed into my pillow, clutching the satin with my fingers. Of course he kissed her! He definitely only pushed her away because he could sense I was there. I laid flat on my back, staring up at the ceiling. It was blurry through my tear streaked vision, but I didn’t care. “Why, goddess? Why can’t I just have a mate and be happy like everyone else?” I asked. Was I cursed with unending ha

  • The Mute Luna Bride    A dinner date gone wrong

KAELTensions were high after Selene’s stunt at the council. The second she walked away, Varek asked me if I was sure I had made the right decision. He had personally trained Selene for a great part of her life and knew she would be a wonderful addition to the council. There wasn’t anyone else who could take her spot as grand commander of my army. As much as I hated to admit it, he was right. Selene was brave, strong, and smart. But she also lacked discipline. And that was her ultimate ondoing. “I’ll command my army myself if I have to.” I said, and it was final. Elora was not pleased with my decision either: “You shouldn’t have done that,” She signed as we walked down the hallway together. “You need her more than you need me.”I smiled at her. “That’s what everyone thinks. But I have faith in you, Elora. In our bond.” I put my right arm over her shoulder and pulled her closer to me. “I need to ask you something.” She started to sign again, and I smiled. “You want to do that

  • The Mute Luna Bride    Athlea Valewind’s daughter

AUTHOR “Fuck them!”She seethed. Fuck them both! Anger simmered in her chest as she took deep breaths in and out, anything to quench the fury that continuously rose and fell in her chest. Nothing worked. Nothing was enough to soothe her aching heart, or heal her bruised ego. She hated them so much, especially her doe eyed, silly, mute, annoying, pretentious step sister. The wine in Selene’s goblet was untouched. She had gotten it to soothe her emotions, but her anger had already surpassed what wine could fix. If only Elora had died when she was supposed to. If only the bandits had done their fucking jobs well! She was seated near the tall window of her chamber, eyes locked on the moonlight washing over Stormrider’s walls, but her thoughts were buried deep. Her reflection in the glass window was distorted. In all her golden beauty and glory, she didn’t even feel like herself anymore. She had been tossed out…likened to the trash underneath Kael’s feet. She bit her lower lip an

  • The Mute Luna Bride    At what cost?

ELORA I didn’t know what to expect when Kael called for the council to gather, and requested that I be a part of it. My heart had been pounding since sunrise. It didn’t help that Selene had spent the morning giving me the kind of looks you only reserve for a bug she can squash with her boots. I stood behind Kael’s right shoulder, where his scent was strongest, inhaling the scent of cedarwood, steel, and something warm…like earth. He hadn’t touched me since the night at the bath house, but the bond between us was still so strong and so fierce, I could feel his heartbeat through the air. It was a strange comfort. It didn’t give me the unnerving shivers I felt whenever I was close to…you know who. When the last of the council members entered the room—warriors, advisors, and the betas of nearby clans—Kael stood from the obsidian throne. He didn’t even glance at Selene, who sat stiff and proud at his left. She was dressed in a gleaming silver armor befitting for the grand commander

  • The Mute Luna Bride    Rage like fire

RYKER The fire in my chest wouldn’t stop.It was like I’d swallowed the sun, and now it burned from the inside out, ripping through my lungs, searing into my groin…to my fucking crotch! It clawed at every damned inch of my skin until I couldn’t tell where my flesh ended and my madness began.I threw off the woolen blankets. I was sweat-soaked and suffocating. My hands pressed against my chest as I gasped, needing air. My right hand ran down the length of my hair as I shook my head, trying to fight the face…the one face that was the object of the painful feeling in my chest, the heat in my body, the swelling of my crotch. Elora. Her name alone made the pain worse.I stumbled from my bed, half-wild, half-naked. It tore me into pieces how I could barely think of anything but her. I had tried to ignore it since my encounter with Kiara. I told myself that the Stormrider princess would not come between me and my people, but whenever I dared to close my eyes, I saw her again…dancing in t

  • The Mute Luna Bride    Burn the world to the ground

KAEL I got word that she had woken up just before dawn.I was in the hallway outside her quarters when her maid ran out, saying she was awake and headed to the bathhouse. I had ordered her to tell me immediately Elora was awake and strong enough to move. That was, of course, after I placed four of my strongest guards on rotation at her door. I didn’t hesitate, not even for a second. I just allowed my feet carry me to the woman who had plagued my dreams. Did I say I only began to sleep better after she had returned? Because that was the truth. The bathhouse was warm and misted with lavender-scented steam. She loved the scent so much, and I couldn’t blame her. It was so good on her. I pushed open the carved wooden doors quietly. It wouldn’t hurt if I just did a little check in, right? Nope. Absolutely not. It was only a matter of time before I won her heart and made her my Luna. Elora’s back was turned toward me, her tanned skin glowing under the moonlight that filtered through t

  • The Mute Luna Bride    Veil of Nightshade

KAEL Thank the goddess I moved when I felt it. If I had waited, even for another second…I shook my head vehemently, forcing the thought behind me as the guards carried Elora’s unconscious into a passing carriage they had stopped. My fingers continued to vibrate at my sides. My right leg wouldn’t stop tapping against the gravel, no matter how much I wanted it to. I thought back to how it had all happened, the way our mate bond had saved her. I had been working in the study, signing a new set of land purchase approval documents I had been presented with when the ink on the page slowly blurred as my vision sharpened. I hadn’t understood why my gaze continued flicking to the window like a hound catching the scent of danger. Almost like I had been waiting for something to happen. The leather-bound book I’d been writing in slipped from my fingers and landed on the rug with a quiet thud. I didn’t pick it up. It felt extremely odd, that all I could hear was the way my wolf let out a

  • The Mute Luna Bride    Another attack

ELORA A few minutes later, I requested a ride into the city through the handmaid Kael had assigned for me. Her name was Tamika. She was a small, slender, and doe eyed woman. In her late twenties, Kael had said. Camilla had been married off while I was gone, and had asked her mother to come live with her while I was gone. It had hurt me to know that I couldn't be there for what would have definitely been the happiest day of my friend’s life. We had discussed weddings time and time again as children. I was happy she had at least gotten the happy ending she so desired. “We cannot do that, lady Tamika.” One of the guards said. “We have been given orders to make sure that she doesn’t leave the palace alone.”Tamika turned to look at me. “Would you like a guard to accompany you?”I raised my hands to sign. “That would sort of defeat the purpose of solitude, wouldn’t it?”She sucked in a deep breath and parted her lips to speak, but I cut in before she could. “I could use a rider. O

  • The Mute Luna Bride    Destiny

ELORA The night visions had become a part of my daily night routines. I had thought that if it happened long enough, I'd get used to it. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Every night was still as jarring as the last. And it always started with the fire. The raging, hungry ones, ready to take everything and anything in its path. It swallowed the curtains, the ceiling, the cradle where a little baby me lay in. The heat curled around my skin like a noose around my neck. Yet, I couldn’t scream, no matter how much I needed to. I never could. My voice stayed trapped behind my teeth as the smoke clawed into my lungs and the scent of burning lavender—her perfume—choked the room. There, I found my mother. Lady Araya Valewind. She stood in the center of the flames with wide eyes. Tears rushed down her cheeks as her mouth moved, forming silent words I couldn’t hear. “My silver princess,” those three words, in that particular order, echoed in my ears again and again. She reached for me,
