Chapter 4

Author: Ladywoffie
After three days of burning fever, I dragged my ravaged body into the Joint Assembly Hall. Sienna was being awarded the Leadership Medal by the academy for her "outstanding efforts in helping fellow students evacuate during the blizzard."

The moment I walked in, every eye turned to me.

"Look, the leech is still alive."

"Heard she faked being sick that night to get Lucas's sympathy, but he didn't even look at her."

I kept my face blank and shuffled to the farthest corner seat. The fever was making my vision swim.

On stage, Sienna stood in her high-level Alpha ceremonial dress, basking under the spotlight. The host's voice boomed through the hall:

"When the blizzard struck, student Sienna assisted Alpha heir Lucas in evacuating her peers and has been awarded the Academy's Leadership Medal!"

Thunderous applause. Lucas stood at the side of the stage, holding the silver medal of honor.

Then Sienna took the microphone, her voice dripping with false sweetness. "I couldn't have earned this award without Elena. During the blizzard, she gave up her own access card, which gave me the chance to use Lucas's spare card and step up into this role. In the spirit of pack inclusivity, I'd like to invite Elena up here to personally place this medal on me."

Laughter erupted from the audience. Everyone was waiting to watch me squirm.

Having the discarded waste present the winner's award—that was humiliation in its rawest form.

I stayed in my seat. My voice came out cold. "No."

The temperature in the room dropped.

Lucas's face darkened. He strode over, leaned down, and hissed under his breath, "Elena, haven't you caused enough trouble? Sienna's trying to help you. Do you have any idea how bad your situation is right now?"

I looked at him. "And who made it that way?"

Lucas looked at me like I'd lost my mind. He grabbed my wrist and warned in a low voice, "Listen to me, Elena. You need to build your own connections in this pack. Stop expecting me to fight your battles for you. Got it?"

I stared at the boy I'd grown up with, and something almost made me laugh.

This was Lucas.

In his eyes, my pain was drama. My pride meant nothing. And Sienna's mockery was "helping me."

"Bow my head?" I said, my voice hoarse and barely above a whisper. "Fine, Lucas. I'll go up."

I yanked my wrist free and walked up to the stage, past every stunned face in the hall.

Sienna was already smiling, tilting her head down, waiting for me to place the medal around her neck.

I walked right past her. Straight to the microphone.

I pulled out the Silvermoon Crest I'd always worn as a pendant—the one that belonged to my father. The medal given to heroes who died protecting the pack's Alpha.

Gasps from the crowd.

"That's the Silvermoon Crest—exclusive to hero warrior Carol Underwood! How does that waste Elena have it?!"

I turned to Lucas in the crowd. His face had gone white.

His lips parted. "Elena..."

When I was little, he'd made me hide my identity. Kept me from telling anyone my father's name, afraid the enemies would come for me.

Right there, in front of hundreds of wolves, in front of the Elders' Council, I pulled the Silvermoon Crest from my collar—the symbol of a hero's daughter.

Under the Elders' stunned eyes, I summoned every last shred of power left in my ravaged body.

CRACK—

The crest of supreme honor shattered in my hand.

Metal fragments rained down like ashes.

"I, Elena Underwood, hereby declare—"

I lifted my chin high, my clear gaze locked on Lucas's ashen face, every word cutting through the silence.

"As of today, I formally renounce my membership in Silvermoon Pack. I voluntarily withdraw and am transferring out of this academy."

"From this day forward, I owe Silvermoon nothing."

Dead silence.

Days until I left this rotten place—zero.

That night, after the storm, Lucas was badly injured. He'd run into the tempest out of his mind, and in his shattered state, he walked straight into a rogue ambush on the outskirts of Sanctum.I heard about it from my guild mates."The couriers at the station are all talking about it—that Silvermoon Alpha heir got torn apart by a pack of rogues. Critical condition. Rushed to Sanctum General.""They say he was burning with fever, delirious, screaming the same name over and over.""Elena. That was you, wasn't it?"I listened quietly, my fingers steady around the potion vial. Not a tremor. One of my mates ventured carefully, "Are you going to see him? I mean... he's someone from your past, right?""No." My voice was ice. "There are plenty of healers. They don't need me."My mate sighed. "Don't wait until it's too late to regret something like this."Regret?I wasn't the one who should be regretting anything. The next day, Lucas's mother arrived at Sanctum. She looked so much more worn tha

After I left, the girls she'd bullied and threatened in secret all came forward. They testified that Sienna had not only stolen academic projects multiple times, but had even sabotaged another student's potion—causing permanent injury during training. The headmaster and Elders were furious. She was expelled on the spot and stripped of her pack mark. With nothing left, she fled to the lawless rogue camps. To survive, she attached herself to the most brutal brute there, trading her body for scraps—becoming the real leech.I didn't understand. "But you were about to be mates—""We weren't! She and I were never anything!"Lucas stepped forward urgently, his voice shaking. "Elena—the moment you shattered that Silvermoon crest in front of everyone, my wolf spirit was ripped apart. Unbearable pain. A resonance I couldn't control.""The Elder said that only happens when a blood-bond or a mate bond is torn apart by force. Maybe we're—""No."I cut him off.We couldn't be. If we were, how could

With no need to hide my abilities anymore, I quickly became the center of attention. No matter how vicious the beast lacerations, or how complex the spiritual contamination—under my healing, everything mended fast. It was a gift I'd inherited from my father's bloodline, one I'd suppressed for years to keep my cover intact. Now I let it burn bright.I was no longer that "leech" cowering in the shadows, enduring glares. I was the student mentors praised endlessly, the one peers genuinely respected. In my free time, I started a medical guild with like-minded classmates, building my own career on campus.Under the bright sun in the central square, I was always surrounded by friends and admirers, laughter filling the air around me.And yet, every single day, my phone buzzed with messages from the same person.'Elena, where are you? Please tell me...''I'm so sorry. I know I was wrong.''Days and nights

I'd barely stepped out of the hall when heavy, frantic footsteps pounded behind me."Elena! Stop!"Lucas grabbed my wrist, his voice a low, teeth-gritted snarl. "What the hell were you thinking? Destroying the crest in front of the whole academy—do you have any idea they'll actually exile you now?!"I stopped, slowly pulled my hand back. "I already said I'm leaving. Same outcome.""Elena, use your head." Lucas's voice cracked with anger. "Where are you going without Silvermoon? How many days do you think you'd last out there without my protection?""Exactly, Lucas. Don't waste your breath."Sienna jogged up behind him and wrapped her arm around his. "A nobody with no family backing, leaving our pack? There's only one place she's headed—rogue territory."He didn't correct her. He just kept his wolf eyes locked on me—a mess of struggle, resentment, and something he probably didn't even recognize as panic. He said, "Elena—are you sure about this?"I looked at the two of them clinging toge

The comments underneath were vicious."This waste of space runs at the first sign of danger—how does she even have the nerve to stay at this academy?""She's clung to Lucas since she was a pup, survived off his family's resources her whole life. Literally a leech.""Roll out of our pack!"The bullying in real life escalated fast.Red ink started showing up on my desk—LEECH GET OUT, STAY AWAY FROM LUCAS.My textbooks were drenched in black ink. The core pages of my assignments, the ones I'd stayed up all night finishing, were torn out. My instructor gave me a zero with a cold face, and I didn't even get a chance to explain.
