Chapter 10: Cute

Liam’s pov

“Just fucking do it Alex” Liam yelled over the phone. Liam has been on edge since receiving that call at the restaurant. Alex had called to inform him about one of his competing companies, Harper’s corporation, which was trying to poach one of his clients and ruin the multi-million-dollar deal he was about to sign.

He had been so angry that he had to send Ivy back to the company alone so he could deal with the issue.

He had asked Alex to come to the restaurant to explain in detail. Alex had arrived shortly after Ivy left. After listening to what the motherfucker was planning to do to his company, he knew there was only one thing to do to put people like that in their place. Destroy them so they can never bare their claws at him or his company ever again.

“The nerve of that fucking Harper to think he can mess with me and go unscathed” Liam cursed out.

“I have all the files ready,” Alex said at the other end of the phone

“Good, destroy him,” Liam ordered, his voice brimming with authority.

“ OK, Boss,” Alex chuckled, then ended the call.

In 20 minutes, the news was everywhere. Liam smirked as he read the headlines on his computer: “Bankruptcy of Harper’s corporation”. 

His telephone rang, he picked it up and waited for the person to talk. 

“Liam, there is a John on line three demanding to talk to you,  should I put him through?” Alex asked

“No,” Liam answered, his smirk growing.

“Woah man, you know you are evil, right?” Alex snickered 

“Is Ivy at work yet?” Liam asked, ignoring Alex’s remark

“She hasn’t signed in,” he replied.

Liam checked the time on his wristwatch; it was 8:20 AM. Why wasn't she at work yet?. 

“Oooh, seems like someone is missing her,” Alex said teasingly.

“Let me know when she signs in,”  Liam said, ending the call.

 Liam couldn’t help the thoughts that went through his head as he twirled in his chair. “Did she decide to stop working? Or something happened?”

His thought was interrupted by the ringing of the telephone.hr picked it up.

“She just signed in a few minutes ago. You can calm your beating heart down now.” Alex let out and hurriedly ended the call, not giving Liam the chance to curse at him.

Liam looked at the time, it was a few minutes to 9. He stood up and walked out of his office, heading to Ivy’s own.

“She better have a good reason for coming this late,” he said in his head as he sat on her desk with his arms folded.

She walked in a few minutes later with her back facing him.

He watched her do a little weird dance of victory with her eyes closed. “Cute,” he thought with a smirk on his face. The expression on her face when he talked was priceless, and Liam almost let out a laugh.

“Why are you just coming to work, Miss Smith? he had asked her.

“I had a family emergency at home that had to be taken care of, sir. Ivy replied flustered 

“You should know it’s professional to be able to separate your work life from your private life,” he said 

“I’m sorry, sir. It won’t happen again,” she replied, with her head bowed. But Liam had been too busy looking at the face to hear what she had just said.

Her eyes were swollen, and there were traces of dried tears. He walked over to her and lifted her chin, trying to get a better view of her face.

“Why are your eyes swollen? Did you cry?”  He blurted out, feeling angry.

“Who dared hurt her? Was that the emergency she talked about? Liam asked in his head.

He frowned as she moved back as if his hands scorched her.

“It’s nothing, it’s probably because I watched movies all through the night and didn’t get enough sleep,” she answered

Liam knew she was lying. He could see it from the way she avoided meeting his eyes.

He watched her quietly for a while. Even with her eyes swollen and hair a mess, she was still beautiful.

“Okay,” he replied before walking out.

Immediately, he got to his office, he dialed a number.

The person picked on the second ring. 

“Hello,” the person said

“Run a background check on the details I'm going to send to you now.”

“Okay, boss,” the person replied.

Liam ended the call. His mind wandered back to Ivy. He wondered if he should ask her to go home for the day, but got rid of the thought. 

She is like that because of whatever happened in her home, so it wouldn't be wise to send her back there to rest. He thought 

He ruffled his hair in frustration as he couldn't think of anything.

“Shit, how hard is it to come up with an excuse” he muttered. As if coming to a realization, he said, “Wait, I am the boss, I don't need an excuse.” 

“What is she turning me into? God! He face-palmed himself.

He picked up the telephone. “Come to my office,” he ordered 

A few minutes later, there was a knock on his door. “Come in.”

“You called for me, sir,” Ivy said immediately as she entered his office

“Yes, have a seat,” Liam said as he gestured towards the couch at the corner of his office.

He watched as she moved hesitantly towards the couch. He planned to pretend to do some work while she waited and get tired of waiting, eventually falling asleep.

He looked up from his computer and glanced at her occasionally, watching her every move. 

She shifted uncomfortably on the couch, but he noticed she was slowly getting comfortable and her shoulders sagging.

He smiled as he saw that his plan was slowly progressing. The next time he looked up, he caught her trying to stop herself from dozing off. “Cute,” he chuckled.

She finally allowed herself to fall asleep after many attempts to stay awake. Liam squatted in front of her as she slept. He brushed away the strands of hair from her face. He traced the outline of her face down to her lips. He stared at her lips for a while as he swallowed.

“So tempting, how can you be trying to seduce me even when you are sleeping?” he whispered with his eyes filled with desire. Liam snapped out of his trance as she moved.

He quickly moved back to his desk, losing his tie. For some reason, he started to feel hot.
