Chapter 25: panic attack

Ivy

Ivy's fingers trembled as she stared at her phone's screen, feeling her breath catch in her throat. Tears streamed down her face, and her lips quivered. “Who—why?” she gasped, each breath coming in harsh, quick bursts. It felt as though the walls of her room were closing in on her. The phone slipped from her trembling hands as she clutched her chest, struggling to breathe.

“Help,” her voice emerged, barely above a whisper, as she dragged her body down from the bed and crawled slowly to the door. Each breath felt like a struggle, her lungs aching from the effort. She closed her eyes, teetering on the edge of surrender to the darkness that beckoned her. Suddenly, the sharp, insistent ringing of her phone broke through the haze, pulling her back.

With a flicker of determination, she turned around and crawled back to her phone, her heart racing. Straining to see, she could barely recognize the caller's name but instinctively answered, desperation filling her

  • The Night Fate Chose You   Visiting the precinct

Chapter 36: visiting the precinct Ivy When Ivy woke up, it was mid-afternoon, thankfully it was the weekend. She stretched and let out a yawn as she got out of bed. Ivy panicked a little when she noticed Charlotte was missing but her mind eased up when the smell of food wafted into her nose and she wondered what Charlotte was trying to cook this time. She climbed from the bed and sauntered towards the kitchen knowing that Charlotte would be there. As Ivy approached the hallway, she could smell the disaster her best friend was cooking. Charlotte was usually only a good cook when it came to simple meals but whenever she tried something fancy it always turned out disastrous.Ivy burst into a coughing fit immediately after she set foot in the living room. “Oh God” she muttered as her eyes frantically searched for Charlotte, but she couldn't find her amid the thick smoke that engulfed everything, making it hard for her to see anything.“Charlotte!” she yelled but she was met with silence

  • The Night Fate Chose You   You look ugly when you cry

Chapter 35: You look ugly when you cryIvySuddenly she heard a clicking sound, and the door opened revealing a sleepy Charlotte standing and rubbing her eyes“Hey, why were you screaming my—” Charlotte started but Ivy didn't allow her to finish as she rushed inside and shut the door with a bang startling Charlotte awake. Ivy panted heavily as her back rested against the door like someone who had just run a meter race. “What's going on? Why are you acting weird?” Charlotte whispered urgently. Ivy signaled for her to be quiet with a gesture as she heard some shuffling noises coming from outside the door. The noises lasted only a moment, as if the person was searching for something, and then they suddenly stopped. Ivy slowly peeked through the peephole, her heart racing. There was no one there; he was gone. She dropped to the ground with a thud and let out a heavy sigh.“Okay, are you going to tell me what’s going on and why you’re acting batshit crazy?” Charlotte asked, her arms folde

  • The Night Fate Chose You   The Stalker

**Chapter 34**The StalkerIvyIvy didn’t even bother knocking this time; she just barged right into Liam’s office. However, she paused when she saw that he was on a call, his back turned to her. She quietly shut the door behind her and slowly walked toward his desk, having not attracted his attention yet. She couldn’t tell who he was speaking to, but his posture was rigid.“Kelsie, if I meet with you once, will you stop calling and showing up at my house?” he said suddenly. The mention of Kelsie's name made Ivy's heart sink, causing the document in her hand to slip from her grip and fall to the floor. Liam turned his head, eyebrows raised in question at her and the sound. She quickly bent down to pick up the document, pushing away the unsettling feeling in her chest, and showed it to him. He nodded and returned to his desk.“Just text me the location; I’ll meet you there,” he said before dropping his phone on the table. He then gestured for her to come forward. Ivy walked to him and h

  • The Night Fate Chose You   The Cover Up

Chapter 33:The Cover UpIvy povJust as Ivy was about to call Charlotte again to ask her where she was, she heard a bang on her door. “Charlotte, is that you?” she asked as she slowly approached the door, but there was no response, just another loud bang making her jump. “Char?” she asked again, slowly moving away from the door as the bangs became more violent. Who could it be? Rowan? No that was not possible, he wouldn't bang on the door like that when he was the one who locked it.Could it be Evelyn? That wasn't possible either, Evelyn would rather die than set foot in this part of the house. Ivy wasn't sure if it was Charlotte either, because the person wasn't answering. Then that leaves her to the last conclusion, a burglar. She retreated from the door completely and her eyes frantically searched her room for what she could use as a weapon but there was nothing usable. She searched through her drawers looking for something, anything to defend herself with but found nothing, jus

  • The Night Fate Chose You   Locked in

Chapter 32: locked inIvy’s povAfter having another sleepless night, Ivy dragged herself out of bed and prepared groggily for the day. She packed her hair in a neat ponytail and grabbed her bag to leave for work. She frowned when she tried opening her door, which wouldn't budge. She tried pulling and pushing, but it still didn't open. Was it jammed? “Shit!” she cursed as she took a look at her wrist watch, it was some minutes past 7 am. At this point, she was going to be late for work. She wondered if Evelyn or Rowan were home, even though they were the last people she wanted to ask for help. Unfortunately, she didn't have much of a choice at the moment. “Is anyone there?” she yelled as she banged on the door loudly. “Rowan? Evelyn? Please, can you help me? I think my door is jammed!” she shouted at the top of her lungs, hitting the door harder. But all she received in response was silence. Of course, they weren't going to help her. What was she thinking, calling out to them? She c

  • The Night Fate Chose You   Alex Lies

**Chapter 31:** Alex Lies**Alex's POV**When he got back into the car, Alex's expression shifted from cheerful to serious. “I hope you forgive me,” he muttered as he started the engine and drove away from Ivy’s house. Checking his phone for missed calls or messages, he found none. A smirk formed on his face as he shook his head. Of course, there wouldn't be any messages. “You never disappoint me, my friend,” he thought aloud as he turned the car around and drove toward his best friend’s place. He suspected that Liam would be waiting for him and, if he was correct, Liam would be drunk by now.He parked his car in the garage and headed upstairs, mentally preparing himself for the worst possible outcome. Upon reaching the door, he pressed the doorbell repeatedly until Liam finally opened it. Alex assessed his best friend's appearance and grimaced. Liam's hair was disheveled, the first button of his shirt was missing, and he reeked of whiskey and—was that the smell of cigarettes? This w
