Chapter 5 – The Healer in the Lycan Village 2

Alora’s POV

The fact that Ash was a replica of his father was fate playing in my face. I do not know what I was expecting, but maybe it would have been a little bit better if he didn’t take every one of his father’s facial features. Sometimes , I do not worry about this resemblance because we were somewhere far away from him, and nobody in the East Lycan Kingdom knew who my ex-husband was.

The Lycans from the East did not associate themselves with wolves, and the journey between both areas was a matter of days. It was far apart, so I never had to worry about running into anyone.

There was only one time that someone had almost recognized me . It was harvest season, and there was a festival. Ash had a fever, so he was home with Star while I had to be at the festival because of an emergency.

I remember having a bad feeling about that day, especially after I found out that wolves might be in attendance. Killan was a popular Alpha, and because I was his Luna, I had to be around him for every special event, so I equally had eyes on me when I was Luna ,especially because our story of the blind girl regaining her sight because of the mate bond was a classic amongst wolves beyond Shadow Crest.

“I feel like I have seen you before,” the Luna of Raven Pack had said when we sat together for a feast that day. I remember how grateful I was that Ash had a fever because she would have immediately seen the resemblance with Killan. She kept insisting that I looked so familiar, and I repeatedly disagreed.

The only reason why she must have seen a resemblance even with my disguise was because she and I were always together because of our husbands’ pack business.

I managed to escape her, but she unlocked the fear that I was still recognizable, and I had to hide myself and Ash even more.

“My lady….. My lady….” Star’s voice sounded distant. I immediately snapped out of my thoughts and turned to her. She was standing beside the door of Ash’s room.

I had been here to wake him up, but I got lost in my own thoughts.

“I have told you to stop calling me that, Star. It’s been five years. There is no way Elara hasn’t stuck in your head,” I said to her as I stepped away from Ash’s bed, letting him sleep in.

“I don’t think it will ever stick. I am sorry…my lady.” She said teasingly as she passed me a cup of tea.

Star refused to call me or identify me by my new identity, and her reason was because she never wanted me to forget the good memories Alora had before that night. She didn’t want ‘Elara’ to overshadow Alora, and even though I always scolded her, I loved that she reminded me of who I was.

“Why were you looking at him like that?” She finally asked as we sat by our porch, arranging containers for my new medicine formula.

“How? I look at him like that all the time.” I shrugged my shoulders like I didn’t understand what she was saying.

“Okay then…. I didn’t want to say it like this, but you looked at him with so much fear in your eyes. What were you thinking about?”

I rolled my eyes.

“Are you questioning me right now?”

“I am just curious…what was on your mind?” I knew that look. She was worried, and if I didn’t give her an answer, she might have that gloomy look all day.

“Fine….” I dropped the container, and she dragged a chair to sit next to me, waiting for me to speak.

“It’s just…as the days go by, Ash looks more and more like him, and I am scared that someone might recognize him and words might spread to Shadow Crest, and they may come for my son. What if they try to kill him again?” I whispered to her. My heart felt even heavier now that I had said it.

Star grabbed my hands.

“He will not find you. You are safe here, and so is Ash….” She paused and smirked.

“After all, King Rowen will not let any harm happen to his dear friend and healer…his precious Elara…”

I shook her hands out of mine, hitting her gently with the stick beside me as she giggled. She enjoyed teasing me with Rowen and her many hopeless romantic fantasies. Rowen and I were just friends, but Star believed otherwise.

“Do you not have anything useful to do with your time?”

“You cannot deny that you do not see the way he looks at you….”

“Star….. he looks at me just the way everyone looks at me.”

“You know that is a lie….”

I was about to counter what she was saying when I saw King Rowen’s men approaching our cottage. I stood up to receive them, wondering what message they had to pass.

“Talk about coincidence….” Star said.

“To what do I owe this visit so early in the morning…?”

“The King is unwell and he has demanded for your presence.”

My eyes widened. He was well the last time we spoke. I grabbed my work bag as they led the way to their coach parked by our cottage.

While we headed for King Rowen’s home, what Star said to me was in my head. Not what she said about me and Rowen…rather, when she said that we were safe.

I needed that reassurance.

“Is he in his chamber?” I asked when I arrived at the palace. As soon as it was confirmed that he was there, I made my way there in a hurry.

Rowen was hardly ill, so I was intrigued to know what the matter was…but when I walked into his chambers, he was seated by his window, a canvas in front of him as he stroked a paintbrush across it. I could examine his looks from here, and he looked perfectly fine.

“You do not look sick to me,” I said as I approached him. He dropped his paintbrush when he noticed me and turned fully towards me.

“You said you will only come if someone was ill…your friend is ill.” He teased. I tried to hide my smile and make an angry face, but I just couldn’t.

“How can you waste my time like this? I am a busy woman, you know….” I nudged his shoulder as I moved closer to look at his painting.

“You should rest, Lara…. And as your friend, it’s my job to make sure you take a break. I am going to be having my breakfast feast soon. Join me.”

“You invited me over to eat?” I smiled, and he nodded.

“When it’s noon, you will have so many patients. I am sure you will forget to eat anything….” He said, and I nodded in acceptance.

“I guess I do have an advantage of being friends with a king,” I said, and we both burst into laughter.

We were about to leave for the dining hall when Rowen’s assistant walked in. He had a letter in his hands.

“You have a message….”

“Who is it from? I cannot work right now. Healer Elara and I have breakfast….”

“You can attend to it. I will wait,” I said to him, and even though he looked like he wanted to rush out of here this moment, he nodded and stretched out his hand for the letter.

“Who is it from?” He asked as the letter landed in his hands.

“Shadow Crest Pack….”

My entire body froze.

Chapter 29 — The Pack I Left BehindAlora“Welcome to Shadow Crest, Healer Elara.”I stared at Killan for a moment before the carriage door was opened for me. I gathered my cloak around myself and slowly stepped out, my feet touching the ground of the place I had once called home My eyes moved towards the large gates, and I felt something tighten in my chest.I remembered that night. The storm had been terrible, and the rain had soaked through my clothes.. I remembered looking back at those same gates as I ran away, wondering how I could leave the only home I had ever known. Funny how life worked.“Are you alright?”Killan’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts.I turned towards him, forcing my expression to remain calm. “I’m fine.”“We should get going. Everyone is waiting for us, and you must be tired after the journey. We’ll head to the pack house now so you can settle in.”I paused.“The pack house?”He looked back at me. “Yes.”“And why exactly am I staying there?”His brows drew

Chapter 28__The JourneyAlora’s PovI didn’t know when I fell asleep, but the constant movement of the carriage had slowly lulled me into a deep sleep. For the first time since leaving the East Lycan Kingdom, I had managed to stop thinking about what awaited me in Shadow Crest.I was exhausted, and I desperately needed the rest.Unfortunately, it didn’t last long. The carriage suddenly jerked, throwing me forward in my seat. I woke up with a gasp, my heart beating faster as I tried to understand what had happened. Before I could settle down, I heard voices outside, followed by the sound of someone moving around the carriage.I frowned and pushed myself up.“What’s the matter?” I called out.One of the men immediately approached my window. “I’m sorry, my lady. There’s a problem with the carriage.”I stared at him through the small opening. “What kind of problem?”“Something is wrong with one of the wheels. We need to stop and fix it before we can continue.”I closed my eyes briefly.O

Chapter 27 — Dear Moon GoddessAlora’s POVI stood beside my bed, looking at my bags for what felt like the hundredth time.I turned towards the bed, where Star sat watching me. She hadn’t said much since I told her I will be leaving now that Ash was asleep, and I knew her silence had nothing to do with being tired. She was upset. So was I.I walked towards her and sat beside her. “Star.”She looked at me. “What?”I gave her a small smile. “Don’t look at me like that.”“Like what?”“Like I’m going to war.”She scoffed. “Aren’t you?”I stared at her.She stared back. Then we both sighed.I leaned against her shoulder, and she immediately wrapped an arm around me, neither of us said anything. We had been through so much together. Star had followed me when I left Shadow Crest, even though she had no idea where I was going or whether we would survive the journey. She had helped me when I was pregnant, stayed beside me when I gave birth, and watched over Ash when I couldn’t even find the

Chapter 26 — The Boy in Her Arms Killan’s POV “Mom!” The little boy ran straight into Elara’s arms, and she immediately bent down to catch him. I stood behind the tree, watching them. Mom? I titled my head and stretched to get a better view, So the boy was hers? I looked at them again. Elara had both arms wrapped around him, and the boy was holding on to her like he hadn’t seen her in days. She laughed at something he said, then brushed his hair away from his forehead. There was something about the way she looked at him that made me pause….Alora used to look at me like that …With her eyes so pure and filled with love …She indeed looked like Alora , there was no doubting that …. I immediately shook the thought away. Why was I comparing every little thing Elara did to my dead wife? I needed to stop doing that. The boy said something I couldn’t hear, and Elara gently tapped his nose. He giggled and hugged her again. I looked away, but my eyes returned to them almost immediat

Chapter 25 — The Boy Outside Killan’s POV “Is there any reason why I shouldn’t be here?” Elara looked at me for a few seconds then she crossed her arms. “Why should there be?” Her answer was simple, but something about the way she said it made me pause; She wasn’t surprised that I had come, I knew she was angry. I glanced towards the house again. There was something she wasn’t telling me. I didn’t know what it was, but I could feel it. “There’s no reason,” she finally said. I nodded slowly. “Good.” Rowen cleared his throat. “I think we should go back to the palace.” Elara looked at him. “I agree.” She still looked annoyed. I couldn’t blame her. Showing up at someone’s home without warning wasn’t exactly the best way to start things. I walked back towards the carriage with Rowen. Before I got inside, I turned to one of my guards. “Did you see the house?” “Yes, Alpha.” “Remember it.” The guard looked confused. “Why?” “We’ll be coming ba
