Chapter 4 – The Healer in the Lycan Village

Killan’s POV

When I finally made the decision to choose another mate, there was only one person Beta Xavier had arranged for me.

His sister…

Claudia.

She was the Pack’s healer and had once been Alora’s mother’s apprentice.

I wasn’t choosing Claudia because I had any feelings for her.

I was choosing her because I had a duty to fulfill as Alpha.

She was a good choice, She had stood beside me after Alora disappeared, She had taken care of Alora’s mother until her final breath.

She was respected by the Pack, And without a doubt…She would make a good Luna.

“Does it not bother you that you’ve chosen her friend to be your mate?”

My mother asked as she sat by the window, watching the birds outside.

Ever since Alora disappeared, she visited the Pack House almost every day.

In her words…

“I don’t want you to be alone in this house.”

“The servants are here,” I would always reply.

She would only scoff and say

“You know what I mean.”

I turned to face her.

“Why does it matter?”

“Killan…” she sighed. “I know how much your heart was bruised by Alora’s disappearance, but making her friend your mate…”

She shook her head.

“It doesn’t look right, especially when you know Claudia had always harbored feelings for you.”

She paused “And Alora knew that.”

“Mother!”

My voice echoed through the room.

“Alora is gone, she he left me, And yet you still speak as though she’s here with us, I wouldn’t have been pushed into mating with Claudia if Alora hadn’t left.”

“She did what was—” my mother raised her voice to speak

“That’s enough, Mother!”

I cut her off.

“I have made my decision, Claudia and I will mate by the next Harvest Festival, I’ll bring her to the Pack House so we can get more acquainted, I’ve wasted enough time.”

I turned to leave.

“I do have one question for you, though.”

Her voice stopped me halfway to the door.

I didn’t turn around.

“What is it?”

“…Do you still have feelings for Alora?”

Silence filled the room, I never answered her.

I simply walked out and shut the door behind me, I had given Alora enough time to return.

I searched for her endlessly, She was slowly turning me into a weak Alpha.

Into a man who could be broken.

Perhaps…

Going back to the man I was before she came into my life wasn’t going to be so difficult anymore.

By the time I arrived at the council hall, it was already overflowing with wolves.

This wasn’t an ordinary council meeting.

It was a general assembly.

The moment I stepped inside, the noise became unbearable

“Alpha!”

“You have to do something!”

“My son hasn’t opened his eyes in two days!”

“My daughter keeps coughing blood!”

“Please save our children!”

Women cried openly as they knelt before me, clutching sick children in their arms.

Some of the children looked so pale that they barely had the strength to cry anymore.

Others burned with fever.

A little boy no older than five coughed violently before collapsing into his mother’s arms.

The room instantly erupted into panic.

I clenched my jaw.

The sickness had spread much faster than any of us had expected.

It had started in one district.

Then another. Now…It had reached almost every corner of Shadow Crest.

“Our healers are trying everything they can,” I said loudly, hoping my voice would calm them,We are doing everything possible to stop this illness.”

“When?”

A woman cried from the crowd.

“My son is dying now!”

Another voice followed.

“My Alpha, please…They’re only children.”

The sound of crying filled the hall.

I looked around at every frightened face.

“I give you my word.”

The room slowly became quiet

“I will find a solution, I will not allow our children to keep dying.”

Slowly…The crowd began to settle.

After reassuring everyone, the guards escorted them out one by one until only the council remained.

There was this worrisome silence that settled over the room, No one wanted to speak first.

Finally, Xavier broke it.

“The sickness has become worse, We’ve already lost twelve young wolves this week.”

Another elder sighed.

“If this continues, we’ll lose an entire generation.”

I rubbed my forehead.

“We’ve brought in healers from neighboring Packs.”

“We’ve tried every herb.”

“Every treatment.”

“Every remedy.”

“None of it is working….we are out of options “

The room fell silent again, I buried my face in my palm, I wasn’t getting enough sleep or rest because of this ,All my efforts to put an end to this illness just kept on failing .

“There may be… one more option.” The oldest said and i immediately looked toward him.

“I’ve heard of a healer.”

He paused.

“A Lycan healer, They say she has healed illnesses no one else could cure, I’ve heard her name spoken throughout the Lycan Territories whenever i visit to trade, she is in the east kingdom”

Xavier frowned.

“You mean in King Rowen’s kingdom?”

The elder nodded.

“I believe that’s where she lives.”

I immediately shook my head.

“No, I will not go to Rowen.”

“The last time Shadow Crest dealt with the East Lycan Kingdom, it nearly started a war, I’m not walking into his territory asking for favors.” I replied .

Rowen and I were old enemies and seeking his help would be me surrendering to him.

An elder sighed.

“This is no longer about pride, Alpha.”

“It’s about the lives of our children.”

Another nodded.

“If swallowing your pride is what it takes to save this Pack…”

“Then perhaps that’s exactly what you should do.”

I remained silent; Deep down…I knew they were right.

“This healer…”

I looked toward the eldest elder.

“What is her name?and who trained her? Of course she was trained , then we’ll go to her master instead.”

The old man sighed

“I know very little about her, I only know that she’s considered one of the greatest healers in the Lycan Kingdom and some even say she might be the next Lycan Queen of the east .”

“ Does she not have a name ? This supposed healer …” Xavier asked

He paused, he was trying to remember, then his eyes lit up.

“Ah…I remember now.”

“They call her…”

“…Healer Elara.”

Chapter 40: The LieKillan’s POV“She’s lying to me! Healer Elara is lying, and it’s the fact that she’s lying that bothers me.”I muttered the words under my breath as I made my way back to the pack house, my hands clenched at my sides.I had only asked her about the boy because I was curious. I had heard him call her Mama, and naturally, I had assumed he was her son. It wasn’t an unreasonable conclusion, yet the moment I mentioned him, Elara had looked as though I had caught her doing something wrong. She had been startled, almost frightened. Then she had quickly come up with an explanation. One of her patients’ children.Really?I scoffed.I had met enough people to recognize when someone was uncomfortable with a question, and Elara had been more than uncomfortable. She had looked like a woman desperately trying to hide something. And that was what bothered me.Not even the possibility that she had a son she hadn’t mentioned, that wasn’t even my concern. It was the fact that she h

Chapter 39: A White lie Alora’s POVMy heart was beating so fast that I could barely hear anything around me.“Elara?”I blinked, realizing I had been staring at him for far too long.“Are you all right?”I wanted to ask him all the questions running through my mind right now , Questions like what he knew. I wanted to demand that he tell me exactly what he had discovered and whether he had seen Ash’s face. But I couldn’t do any of that without drawing more attention to myself.“I just wonder why you never mentioned him,” Killan continued. “I knew quite a lot about you from meeting you and speaking with the people who know you, but nobody mentioned that you had a son.”I swallowed. What was I supposed to say to that?“How did you know about my son?” I finally asked.“Don’t be offended..” He paused, studying my face. “Maybe you wanted to keep your son private. That’s your decision, and I have no reason to question it. I only wondered why nobody mentioned him.”I forced myself to relax

Chapter 38: Alora’s POVI left the garden without giving Claudia an answer. Her offer followed me all the way to my room, and by the time I reached my door, I had already considered it from every possible angle.A huge sum of money in exchange for a simple remedy. All I had to do was prepare the oil, hand it over to her, and leave Shadow Crest. I wouldn’t have to spend another night in this pack or risk Killan discovering the truth about me.It was almost too easy.I could even give Claudia the oil without accepting a single coin from her. The money had never been my reason for becoming a healer, and I certainly didn’t need it badly enough to sell my peace of mind for it.If I gave her the remedy, I could return to East Lycan Kingdom, hold my son in my arms, and finally breathe without worrying that someone might discover the secret I had spent five years protecting.I stopped outside my room and stared at the door. That was what I wanted, wasn’t it?To leave and go home to Ash and

Chapter 37 – An Exchange. Alora’s Pov I got out of bed and began preparing for the day. After washing my face and dressing, I picked up my bag and checked the herbs I had gathered the previous evening. I needed to prepare more of the oil I had administered to the pups, and before I could do that, I had to find out whether the garden had enough of the ingredients I needed. If it didn’t, I would have to go hunting for them.I wasn’t particularly interested in wandering through the forest around Shadow Crest, but I had no choice. The herbs I needed weren’t always easy to find, and I couldn’t risk using the wrong substitutes on the pups. After making sure I had everything else I needed, I left my quarters and headed towards the garden. The morning air was just what I needed to get my mind off the drama that happened yesterday with Claudia , The pack house was already busy with servants moving around and guards changing shifts. A few people greeted me as I passed, and I returned their gr

Chapter 36 – She Looks Like AloraKillan’s POV“Are you seriously going to let her speak to me like that?”I looked up from the documents on my desk and sighed.Claudia had been standing in front of me for the past ten minutes, complaining about what had happened in the council room. I had hoped she would calm down after leaving, but apparently, she had only gotten angrier.“Claudia, we have already discussed this,” I said, putting down my pen. “I don’t want to have this conversation again.”“Of course you don’t! Because apparently, nothing matters to you anymore as long as it concerns that woman.”I frowned. “What are you talking about?”“Don’t pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about, Killan.” She folded her arms, staring at me with an expression I couldn’t quite place. “You embarrassed me in front of Xavier and the council. You told me to leave as though I were some maid who had walked into the room without permission. And all because Elara couldn’t keep her mouth shut.”I lea

There’s a difference.”Claudia scoffed, folding her arms across her chest. “And how exactly do you intend to find a cure when you don’t even know what you’re dealing with? I’m a heale
