Hana

My mother had hated Masaru Sato.

She never spoke his name without checking the lock. When Sato-kai cars passed our apartment, she moved me away from the windows. The last year of her life, she made me memorize three escape routes from school and a phone number that disconnected before I ever called it.

Masaru now wanted me to believe she had trusted him with the secret that could have destroyed us both.

“You're lying,” I said.

“Frequently,” he replied. “Not about Reina.”

HanaMy mother had hated Masaru Sato. She never spoke his name without checking the lock. When Sato-kai cars passed our apartment, she moved me away from the windows. The last year of her life, she made me memorize three escape routes from school and a phone number that disconnected before I ever called it.Masaru now wanted me to believe she had trusted him with the secret that could have destroyed us both.“You're lying,” I said.“Frequently,” he replied. “Not about Reina.”Kenji's head lifted. “You knew Hana's mother.”“Long before either of you understood what our families were.”“Then explain it.”Masaru's expression closed. “Not over a compromised line.”I almost laughed. “Your office authorized an attack on your penthouse, Aiko's clinic was emptied, and someone replaced my medication inside your summit. Which line do you consider uncompromised?”“Return to the hotel. We will speak in person.”“No.”Masaru wasn't accustomed to hearing the word. That gave us something in common.

HanaKenji watched the image of his father without blinking. His body had gone rigid beside mine, grief and fury locked behind the same discipline that made other men fear him. I wanted to touch him. The urge surprised me more than the heat did. Kenji never looked as though he needed anything, yet the bond carried the truth of it: he needed an anchor before his father pulled the ground from beneath him.The camera had reduced Masaru Sato to gray light and hard angles, but no poor resolution could disguise him. He wore the same dark coat he'd arrived in at the summit. Aiko stood beside him with her keys gripped between both hands.Luca broke the silence. “I assume this is where you tell us the footage has been altered.”“It hasn't,” Kenji said.He didn't defend Masaru. That frightened me more than anger would have.I replayed the final minute. Masaru entered the clinic behind Aiko. Neither appeared again. The rear camera had been removed, leaving two wires hanging from the brick. If th

  • The Omega Claimed by Two Rival Crime Lords   The Doctor Vanishes

KenjiAiko Tanaka's clinic had three locks and no doctor. The first lock opened with Hana's code. The second had been drilled from the hallway. The third lay on the floor inside the office, its screws removed and arranged in a careful row on the tile.No broken furniture waited beyond it. No blood. The reception desk held a cold cup of tea and a stack of registration forms aligned beneath a glass weight. Whoever had taken Aiko possessed time, access, and confidence that no one would interrupt.Emi cleared the treatment rooms while Marco guarded the stairwell. Luca stayed close enough to Hana that their shoulders nearly touched. I kept to her other side. We had left the hotel through a kitchen loading bay and changed vehicles twice, yet I couldn't dismiss the certainty that my father's men knew our destination.Hana pressed a hand to the wall as another wave of heat passed through her. She had refused to remain behind. I had expected that refusal and disliked it anyway.“You can search

  • The Omega Claimed by Two Rival Crime Lords   The Dead Girl's Initials

HanaDead people created terrible accounting problems. They stopped signing checks, collecting salaries, or paying taxes. Their passwords expired. Their names stayed behind on property records and beneficiary forms, where a patient investigator could find them. A person who wanted to hide a living woman inside a dead one's paperwork had to keep making choices, and every choice left a number.“Was Sofia's body recovered?” I asked.Luca remained near the windows. “The warehouse fire left bone fragments. Dental records matched.”“Did you see the report?”“I saw what my uncle gave us.”Kenji retrieved a chair from the undamaged side of the table and set it behind me. This time I used it. The relief from touching them had lasted, though my skin remained too tight for my body.“Tell me about the route,” I said.Luca looked toward the dead attacker. “Now?”“Especially now. Someone paid men through the same charity to take me alive or kill anyone who interfered. I don't believe in coincidence

HanaLuca went quiet when he was truly dangerous. The charming Mafia prince disappeared, leaving a man who could order a murder without raising his voice. Some reckless part of me found the change compelling. The omega part wanted to discover whether that dangerous mouth would soften against mine.I blamed the heat. It was becoming responsible for an impressive number of poor decisions. The discovery should have pleased me. Until that moment, he'd used charm as misdirection, defense, and occasionally blunt-force trauma. The man beside me now had none left. His eyes stayed on Raffaele's name while his wolf pressed so close to his skin that amber swallowed the brown around his pupils.Kenji reached for the phone in his pocket.“No,” Luca said.Kenji's hand stopped. “Your uncle paid the men who attacked us.”“An account under his control paid them. If you call your father before we know who used it, Raffaele learns exactly how much we have.”“My father may already know.”“Then calling hi

  • The Omega Claimed by Two Rival Crime Lords   Blood Money

LucaThe dead man had no wallet, no phone, and no scent I could trust. He lay beside the ruined dining table while red emergency lights painted the penthouse in alternating shades of blood and shadow. Chemical blocker covered whatever his wolf might have told us. The hospital soap underneath it remained, clean and sweet enough to make the back of my tongue taste wrong.Emi photographed his hands before Kenji searched him. Hana sat against the wall with a folded napkin pressed to her cheek. She had refused the chair I offered and the order Kenji hadn't quite given. Heat colored her skin, but her attention stayed on the access module balanced across her knees.“Don't move him until I finish the chain-of-custody record,” she said.Kenji paused with two fingers inside the dead man's jacket. “He attempted to murder you.”“That makes the evidence more useful, not less.”“She has a point,” I said.“Your agreement weakens it.”I crouched beside the body. “Cruel. Accurate, but cruel.”The atta
