Chapter 1

I finally found my voice, though my entire body was trembling.

"Why?"

Why had Carter spent the night in her bed, only to stand before the entire Pack and bind his soul to mine hours later? Why hand me a future just to set it on fire?

Carter blinked, then threw his head back. A jagged, cruel laugh shook his chest. "You win," he directed at the dashboard.

I stared at him, my heart stopping as a voice crackled through the car speakers. A voice that still haunted my nightmares.

"Tonight, I want you to take me like that again. You know I like it rough."

The blood drained from my face.

"Chloe and I had a bet," Carter drawled, pure Alpha arrogance dripping from every word. "I bet that when you found out, you’d slap me. She said you’d just whimpering 'why.' Since she won..." He raised an eyebrow. "Well, you heard her."

Chloe’s laughter bubbled through the speakers, sharp as broken glass. "Selene. Five years and you're still the same pathetic little Omega. I’ll give you this, though—your taste in Alphas is top-tier. His stamina alone..."

The sound of her voice dragged me back five years.

I had ended my border patrol early to surprise Jake. I pushed open our bedroom door to find him and Chloe tangled together by the window. Jake had flinched, but Chloe just pulled the sheets to her chin and grinned.

"Selene, I’m sorry," she’d purred. "My Heat was unbearable. I just borrowed your mate for a little while."

I had looked exactly then how I looked now—shattered, tears streaming, whispering that same useless word: "Why?"

In that memory, their lips kept moving, but the sound cut out. Then they both screamed, their faces turning ghost-white. A blinding, agonizing pain tore through my lower abdomen. I hit my knees, watching as blood pooled on the floor beneath me.

That was the night I lost everything. Ten years of friendship. A year-old Mating Bond. And the three-month-old pup I never got to hold.

  • The Omega Luna's Perfect Revenge   Chapter 10

The next day, I "remembered" that the man I loved craved his food scorching hot, laced with ghost peppers and chili. By that evening, the Alpha who couldn't handle a hint of spice was admitted to the Pack clinic with acute gastritis.Late that night, I stood over Carter’s hospital bed. His fever had spiked so high he’d slipped into unconsciousness. My face was a mask of indifference. It hit me then. I’d felt a flicker of satisfaction watching him suffer—sharp, brutal, and fleeting. But then, it was gone. I was empty where something vital should have been.I didn't understand it until Carter began to mumble in his delirium, his cracked lips straining to whisper my name. In that moment, the pain, the hatred, and the love all went flat.Carter had used another woman to punish me for my past, and it had worked—it destroyed me because I had actually loved him. But what was I doing now? I was using his love for me as leverage, running the exact same play he had.I sat by his bed until dawn.

Carter panicked, his hands trembling with a sudden, restless energy. He had no idea where the ring was. When we’d gone to pick it up, I’d clutched that velvet box against my chest as if it were a holy relic. Then he had shoved me out of the car, and the box had vanished into the mud along with me.I watched the realization fracture his expression. Then, I let the madness take over. I threw a fit, hurling everything within reach at him and screaming at the top of my lungs until the hospital staff stopped to stare."If you can lose the ring that was supposed to be our future, you never loved me!" I shrieked. "I want to break the Bond. I want to Reject you right now!"Carter was cornered. He dropped to both knees beside my hospital bed, his pride in tatters. "It was my fault. I’ll have a new one made—one I’ll guard with my life. Please, Selene, just trust me."I made him work for it. It took hours of him begging on his knees and signing over several of his most lucrative Pack holdings int

Carter had made the ultimate mistake. He went to her; he took her to bed.Afterward, he returned home, carefully bringing a blueberry tart—the sweet treat the Pack doctor said would help a body heal. He sat there and watched me eat it, smiling and completely oblivious. Within him, a bitter resentment festered. Why should he be the one to suffer while I sat there happy, blissfully unaware of the truth? So, on that storm-lashed night, Carter laid it all bare. He threw me out of the car and into the freezing mud.The SUV screeched to a halt, snapping Carter out of the memory. He had no time for remorse now. He kicked the door open, sprinted into the clinic, and carried me directly into the trauma bay. The betrayal, the petty revenge—Carter realized now that they were the most catastrophic choices of his life. Had he known the price of his vengeance would be losing me, he would have swallowed every drop of his pain in silence. The thought sent a fresh wave of agony through his chest as he

On the way to the clinic, Carter held me in a death grip. His body was a wall of tension as memories fractured in his mind. He remembered the first time he saw me—at the training grounds. He’d taken a brutal hit during a spar and was losing blood fast. I was the one who knelt in the dirt, pulling healing herbs from my kit and pressing them into the wound.Carter hadn’t known back then that I was already with Jake. He’d gotten a taste of my scent and decided right then that he was coming for me. By the time he learned the truth, Jake and I had already shared our first Mark. The night of my bonding ceremony with Jake, Carter spent the hours howling at the moon. He’d shifted and tracked our convoy from the shadows the entire way. When Jake finally carried me across the threshold, Carter couldn't bear to watch. He turned and vanished into the rain. That night, half-conscious and drowning in whiskey, he dreamed. In his sleep, he was the Alpha marking my neck. He was the one holding me. When

Carter was too slow. The instant he lunged, my shirt slipped through his desperate fingers like water. I hit the ground with a sickening thud.In Carter’s hand: a clump of wet mud. The same mud he had shoved me into hours ago.He stood on the balcony, paralyzed for several heartbeat-seconds, before the silence shattered."Selene!"He howled, a raw, primal sound of agony. He didn't stop for shoes or a shirt; he bolted barefoot out of the room, throwing himself down the stairs. The distance from the third floor to the garden usually took fifteen seconds. For Carter, it was an eternity. He hit the rain-soaked grass and collapsed to his knees. His hand trembled violently as he reached for my face. A faint, shallow breath ghosted across his fingertips.I was alive."What are you standing there for? Get the Pack doctor! Call an ambulance!" Carter spun around, screaming at Chloe, who had appeared in the doorway. His eyes were completely bloodshot, wild with a terror I had never seen. The rain

The sounds started seconds later. The rhythmic thud of the headboard. The screech of the bed frame dragging across the hardwood. Every grunt, every gasp, filtering through the wall with agonizing clarity.Chloe’s voice rose, sharp and taunting. "Carter, you’re incredible. Locking Selene in the next room just so she has to listen? You’re so cruel.""Shut up," Carter’s voice rumbled, thick with exertion. "Spread your legs. I’ll show you exactly how cruel I can be."I pressed my hands over my ears until my knuckles turned white, but it was useless. Every sound found its way into my skull, cold spreading from my feet until the pain folded me onto the floor. My mind tried to retreat to the moonlight, to Carter’s wide shoulders, to the tender way he used to look at me—but the scraping of that bed frame buried every beautiful memory in filth.I reached into my pocket and fumbled for the white prescription bottle. The pills that kept my mind from fracturing. I shook a handful into my palm and
