Alyssa’s POV
He is strong, and fast. His reflexes catching me off guard.
I am not in the mood for someone to make me feel weak. Not tonight.
Heat flares inside me—anger, rage—like nothing I’ve ever felt before.
A sudden strength surges through me, feral and untamed.
Before I can think, I tear my arm from his grip, spin around, and shove him hard.
He stumbles back.
His expression shifts—surprise flickering through his golden eyes before something darker replaces it.
"How dare you touch me?" I snarl, my whole body burning.
I feel... different.
My blood hums with something new, something powerful.
My muscles tense, my body taut, as if something deep inside me is awakening for the first time.
The stranger watches me carefully.
"Do you even know where you are?" he asks, his tone harsher now.
I look around, my chest rising and falling with quick uneven breaths.
This part of the forest is unfamiliar.
Unforgiving.
Nothing looks the same.
Panic tightens around my ribs.
"What pack are you from?" he asks again, stepping closer.
I stare at him, my jaw clenching.
I have no pack.
And after tonight, after Levi, Mira, and Alpha Conan, I know my chance to be named a Moonborn is gone.
Unless...
I agree to Alpha Conan’s terms.
Become his pet. His toy.
No.
I refuse.
"I need to make my way back to the Moonborn pack," I say, forcing the words out. "I have unfinished business there."
His eyes flicker with something unreadable.
"I can take you back," he offers. "You’re not far off—"
"No."
The word rips from me, sharp and furious.
I’ve had my fill of men and their help.
I turn, stepping away.
"At least tell me your name," the stranger calls after me.
I pause.
My heart pounds, my thoughts a tangled mess of pain, betrayal, and hatred.
I don’t trust him.
I can’t.
I cast him one last look over my shoulder before turning away, my steps quick and determined.
I don’t know where I’m going.
But I will find my way.
Even if I have to do it alone.
But as I disappear into the trees, I hear it.
A low chuckle.
Deep. Sinister.
"See you soon, little wolf."
***
The night has stretched on. I don’t know how long I’ve been walking.
The full moon is slipping away, fading into the early light of dawn, taking with it the wild, burning anger that had fueled my escape into the woods.
But what replaces it is so much worse.
The heartbreak.
The ache.
It creeps back in like a slow-moving poison, seeping into my bones, wrapping around my chest, making every breath feel heavy.
Then I see it.
The great banquet hall.
The place where my world shattered.
The place where I stood in silence, watching Levi—the man who once whispered love into my skin—kiss Mira, binding his life to hers forever.
The man who promised he would find a way.
Who swore to me, over and over again, that we would always be together. That I can finally have a name. A lineage.
Liar.
A bitter laugh escapes me, but it’s swallowed by the morning breeze.
I should have never believed someone like me—an omega, an outcast—could ever be more than a secret.
I turn my back on the hall and keep walking.
The pack is waking up now.
I can hear them moving around, going about their day like nothing has changed.
Like there wasn’t a girl who had her heart ripped apart in front of them all last night.
No one looks at me.
No one acknowledges my existence.
Just an omega.
A stray that should be grateful she was taken in at all.
I want to scream at them.
I want to grab every one of them and shake them until they understand that I love him, that I wasn’t just some girl sneaking around with the Alpha’s son—I was his.
But love means nothing here.
Power does.
And I have none.
I push open the door to my house, bracing myself, because I know what’s coming.
She’s already there, Astra, standing in the middle of the room, arms crossed, her face a storm of worry and frustration.
The moment she sees me, the dam breaks.
"Where the hell have you been?!" she yells, her voice thick with emotion. "Do you have any idea how worried I was?"
I blink at her, my body numb. "I needed air," I say, my voice flat. "I needed to breathe, Mother."
The words barely leave my lips before Astra's sharp gaze narrows in on me.
I know she sees everything—the wrinkled dress, the smudged tears, the way I can’t seem to look her in the eye.
"What happened?" she demands, softer now but just as urgent.
I swallow, my throat raw. "Alpha Conan has always known," I whisper.
"Known what?"
"About me and Levi."
I don’t have to say anything else.
Astra stiffens, her lips pressing into a thin, white line.
Of course. She has always warned me that this was coming. She warned me a hundred times before, but I had been too blind, too hopeful, too defiant, and determined to prove my worth.
"I told you, Alyssa," she says, shaking her head. "I told you this would lead to nothing but heartbreak."
"He loves me," I say, my voice trembling.
Even now.
Even after everything.
Even after watching him stand before the pack, before the gods, and vow himself to another.
"I know he does," I say trying to convince myself.
Astra lets out a sharp, humorless laugh. "Even after last night? Even after watching him marry Mira?"
I flinch.
"I don’t understand, Mom," I whisper, dropping onto the couch. "How could he do this to me? How could he make me believe we had a future?"
Astra sighs, the anger in her face shifting to something softer, sadder.
"Oh, Alyssa," she says, her voice laced with pity. "You were never his future. You were never meant to be."
My hands clutch my lap, my nails digging into my skin so hard it hurts.
"But don’t I deserve a chance?" I look up at her, my voice breaking. "I am strong, Mom. Stronger than half the wolves in this pack. Yet I have to bow. I have to hide. I have to act like I am less than them."
"Because you are less than them," Astra says, her voice hard now, her face unreadable.
The words sting.
"You are an omega," she continues. "You have no bloodline, no family name, no power. You were abandoned, Alyssa, left to die. You have nothing to protect you. And your defiance? Your pride? It will get you killed."
I shake my head, tears burning in my eyes. "That’s not true. Levi—"
"Levi will always choose the pack over you, it Is his fate and his duty." Astra cuts in sharply. "Like you, he has no choice."
I suck in a breath, but the pain doesn't stop coming. It just keeps hitting, over and over again.
"Alpha Conan—" I whisper, fresh tears spilling down my cheeks. My voice cracks.
Astra’s face darkens.
"What about Alpha Conan?" she asks, voices low and dangerous.
I clench my fists. My whole body shakes.
"He cornered me at the wedding," I whisper. "He touched me. He kissed me. He said I had two choices—be his or be banished."
Silence.
Pure, horrible silence.
Then, Astra screams.
"No!"
Her whole body trembles with rage as she starts pacing, running her hands through her hair.
"You can't," she mutters, more to herself than to me. "You won't."
I let out a bitter laugh.
"Why not? Maybe he’ll make me Luna." The words come out drenched in sarcasm, but Astra doesn’t laugh.
She turns to me, her eyes filled with panic.
"You have to leave, Alyssa," she says suddenly, her voice tight with urgency.
I blink at her.
"Leave?" My voice sounds small, like a child’s. "I… I can’t. I have nowhere to go."
"You have to go," Astra insists. "You are stronger than you think. You have no idea what’s inside of you. You are safer out there than you are here. Because if you stay—" She stops, looking at me, her lips parting, but no words come out.
She’s afraid. I can sense it.
But of what, I don’t know.
Alyssa’s POV"Astra… Mom," My voice shakes. "Come with me. Please."She freezes.Pain flashes in her eyes."I can’t," she says finally, her voice so low I barely hear it. "I have a debt to pay.""No." I shake my head wildly. "No, you are abandoning me, just like my parents did!"Astra lunges forward, grabbing me by the shoulders, pulling me into her arms."Never, Alyssa," she breathes into my hair. "You are the most important thing in this world."I sob into her chest."You cannot be his, Alyssa," she whispers. "You were never born to bow. You were never meant to serve anyone."My body trembles. My heart hurts. But what does she mean? Why won't she explain?Should I not sacrifice my dignity to have a little safety? In less than twenty-four hours, I have lost everything.Levi. Mira. My home. Any possibility for a future. It’s like the world is tearing me apart piece by piece, and I am powerless to stop it.But Astra is right.I can still feel Alpha Conan’s hands on me. Still hear his v
Alyssa’s POVThe moon hangs high, silver light spilling through the trees, casting shadows that dance around us. The scent of pine, damp earth, and him fills the air, wrapping around me like a memory I can’t escape. I should stop this. I should push him away, remind myself of everything he’s done. But the second Levi’s lips crash against mine, every thought vanishes. His kiss is fire—consuming, urgent, and impossible to resist. My fingers dig into his shoulders, feeling the solid strength beneath my palms. I know this body. It knows me. Every touch, every caress—it’s instinct, a rhythm we’ve always shared. He has always had this power over me, and I hate how easily I give in. His hands grip my waist, pulling me flush against him, his heat sinking into my skin. His touch is firm, knowing, like he’s reclaiming something he never truly lost. I gasp into his mouth, my body betraying me. “What are you doing, Levi?” I whisper against his lips, my voice shaky, breathless. “I miss
Alyssa’s POVThe ground is cold and unforgiving beneath me, jagged stones pressing into my back as I try to suck in a breath. Pain lances through my chest—sharp, searing. I cough, tasting blood. Alpha Conan’s eyes blaze with fury, the amber of his irises glowing with the raw power of an Alpha. “You stupid omega,” he snarls, lips curled back to reveal sharp canines. The insult rips through me, shredding what little strength I have left. “Did you think this pack’s alliance with Raven pack is a joke? That a worthless omega like you could put us all at risk?”His grip tightens around my throat, cutting off my air. Panic claws at my chest as I struggle, nails scraping uselessly against the hand choking me. My vision dances, fading at the edges. I’m not even a challenge to him—just something to crush. A weak thing unworthy of the air I breathe.“Father! Let her go! You’re killing her!” Levi’s shout breaks through the fog clouding my mind. Desperation laces his voice, but Alpha Conan
Alyssa’s POVThe cold air stings at my skin like a thousand paper cuts, each gust slicing into me as if to remind me that I’m still alive. I gasp for breath, the chill scraping my lungs raw. My body feels heavy, my limbs stiff, and my head pounds like I’ve been crushed under a mountain. My eyes flutter open slowly. The sky is a soft grey-blue, dawn breaking just over the horizon. The fire crackles nearby, the scent of smoke drifting in the air. My body aches, but I can feel my wolf working overtime—healing me, holding me together. Where am I? I blink hard, trying to piece it together. Did they take me back? Am I in Moonborn again? Is this it? Are they waiting to execute me? Is this my punishment? I lift my face just enough to see a figure crouched near the fire. Something about her posture is familiar. Something about the way she moves. "Mira?" My voice is hoarse. I barely recognize it. She turns. "It is Alyssa," she says, her voice flat, unreadable. "How are you feeli
Alyssa’s POVThe clearing is tense—like the air itself is holding its breath. Levi and Mira are both in defensive mode, their weapons drawn, their eyes sharp. I can feel the fear in the air, but there’s something else too—something deeper. Dread. Confusion. Rage. “Who the hell are you?” Mira snaps, her voice slicing through the stillness like a blade. The stranger doesn’t move right away. He just stands there—tall, perfectly still. The first morning light touches his face, catching the golden glow in his eyes. It hits me all at once. Those eyes. I’ve seen them before. That night—when I ran through the woods, tears streaming down my face, my body trembling after Alpha Conan had tried to break me. I thought I was alone, but there was someone. I didn’t see his face clearly back then. Just a shadow in the dark and those glowing golden eyes watching me, and his promise to find me again. Now, here he is, out of the shadows and under the light. He looks like something out
Alyssa’s POV It’s been days now—maybe three, maybe more. The trees blur together, and I’ve lost track of time. I walk behind him—always a few feet away—close enough to follow, far enough to pretend I’m not. Zev doesn’t talk much anymore. Not like before. He used to make little sarcastic remarks and throw in dry humor even when I didn’t laugh. Now he’s quiet. His mouth barely moves. His golden eyes are always staring off into the distance, seeing something I can’t. Like he is reliving his own troubles. He walks like a soldier, always alert, always listening. His back stays straight, but his shoulders are tense. Like the weight of the world is pressing on them. Like he's waiting for something—or someone—to strike. I wonder what made him a rogue. Everyone has a story. And most of those stories don’t end well. So what’s his? I pick up the pace and jog a little until I’m beside him. “So… how did you end up being a rogue?” He doesn’t answer. I gla
Zev’s POVI’ve been itching for a fight. For days, I've held back, letting my legs move on instinct while my mind gnaws on things I can’t quite name. The hunger, the cold, the memory of her eyes when she turned to run. And now—finally—action. The Moonborn bastards circle us like wolves scenting blood. Perfect. I stretch my fingers, rolling my neck. The leather of my coat creaks, and the wind curls around me like it knows what’s coming. I can feel it building inside—my wolf—growling under my skin, craving release. But I can’t let it out. Not here. Not yet. They lunge first.I duck low, spin, my coat flaring behind me as I drive my elbow into a hunter’s ribs. The crunch is satisfying. I pivot, grab the next one by the collar, and slam his face into the frozen earth. Electricity crackles to my left—someone aims a stun probe. I twist just in time, feeling the heat of it skim past my cheek. They’re fast, trained. But I’m faster. My boots slide across the dirt as I leap into the air, ki
Alyssa’s POVThe sound comes out of the blue—low, deep, dragging against the floor of the earth. I jolt awake, heart pounding in my chest like war drums. My mouth is dry. My limbs feel heavy like I haven’t moved in days. I push myself up, blinking the sleep out of my eyes, and I see him.Zev.He’s standing at the window, peering through a narrow crack in the wooden frame, his body stiff, shoulders tense.“What was that?” I whisper, rushing to his side.“Be quiet,” he hisses without looking at me. “Keep still. Maybe it’ll leave.”“Maybe what will leave?” I ask, and my voice cracks. There’s fear threading into my words, and I can feel it rising in my chest. “Zev?”“I told you,” he mutters, eyes never leaving the shadows outside. “There are worse things out here, Alyssa. Things that don’t belong in any world.”He unsheathes a blade—long, dark steel that glints with a faint blue sheen. I’ve never seen him like this. Not Zev. He’s always so sure of himself, cocky even. He charges into tr
Zev’s POVFear is a strange thing. It creeps in slow, like a fog at the edge of your vision. You don’t notice it at first—just a weight in your chest, something crawling behind your ribs. Then it wraps around your spine, and you can’t breathe quite right. That’s what I feel now.I’ve heard these stories my whole life. The ones they tell around firepits during long winter nights. Of cursed bloodlines and dark druids. Of the end of the world coming not from war—but from within. They always felt like stories.Something passed down to keep us sharp. To give meaning to all the training, the secrets, the silence. We were preparing… but none of us ever really believed it would happen. And now… it’s here.“Father,” I ask, my voice quieter than I expect. “Are you sure?”The general doesn’t flinch. His eyes are cold and clear. “Didn’t you ever wonder why Blood Clan’s grown so bold? Why they strike even inside territory lines?”He pauses, letting the silence press against us. “Every pack needs
Alyssas POV“Where are you going, Alyssa?” the general calls after me. “We haven’t even gotten to Cara.”I stop, my hand on the doorknob. My heart beats hard against my ribs. Fast, angry, and confused.“Please,” he says, quieter now. “Sit down. I promise you… Nothing you say will leave this room.”I hesitate. His voice isn’t as commanding as before. It’s different now—steady but not hard. Like he actually wants to help.I turn slowly and walk back. My steps are slower this time, like I’m wading through water I didn’t realize I’d stepped into.I sit down, the chair creaking beneath me. My spine’s stiff, but I let myself rest into the seat just a little.Zev reaches over, his hand sliding across the space between us. His fingers find mine. Gently. Like he’s asking permission.I don’t pull away. Not now.Not when my chest is full of questions and my throat tastes like smoke.I need him. Just for this. The general leans forward, elbows on his knees. “Tell me about Cara.”“I… I know what I
Alyssa’s POVThe sun hangs low, casting a golden light over the rooftops of Fenrath. I walk fast, my boots crunching over gravel as I head toward the general’s house. The wind tugs at my hair, cool against my cheeks, but it does nothing to cool the heat inside me.My thoughts are a storm. Cara. The shuck. The truth we buried. I can't ignore it anymore.“Alyssa!”I freeze at the sound of my name. Zev.I don’t turn. I quicken my pace.“Alyssa, please. Stop.”My feet stop before I even decide to. I sigh sharply, shoulders tensing.“What now?” I ask without looking back. My voice is sharp, tired, brittle.“Where are you going?” Zev walks up beside me, his brow furrowed like I’ve personally offended the air around us.“To see your father,” I reply, facing him now. “Or is that a problem?”“No,” he says slowly, his eyes narrowing as if trying to read between the lines. “But… why now?”I cross my arms. “That’s none of your concern, Zev.”His jaw tightens. And then he does it grabs my hand. No
Alyssa's POVThe air smells like dust and old sweat. The sun hangs high above the training court, beating down on my back like it wants to burn the truth into my skin. I wipe sweat from my forehead and try to focus. My hands tighten around the practice sword, but my mind… it’s far away.Someone is setting up troops to be hunted. The general’s words echo through my head. Not just killed… hunted. But who would do something like that? Someone here… in Fenrath? The thought turns my stomach."Pay attention, Alyssa!"Zev’s voice slices through the air like a whip.I blink and look up. He’s at the far end of the court, glaring at me like I’ve just betrayed him."The tournament’s not a joke," he says, walking toward me. "You could get seriously injured. Even die.""And why do you care, Zev?" I snap. My voice comes out sharp, like broken glass. I still can’t believe I agreed to this. Fighting in a tournament just to earn my right to leave. It’s insane. He stops a few feet away. His eyes burn w
Alyssas POVI’m walking back to the dorms, the cold night air biting at my cheeks and making me shiver. The moon hangs high in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the path ahead.Life in Fenrath seems fair, but I can feel how uneasy Shadow is within me, a restless energy that makes me hyper-aware of my surroundings. It’s like there’s something in the air, something I can’t quite put my finger on. A sense of unease wraps around me, and I feel as if I’m being watched, almost haunted by unseen eyes.As I step into the shadows of the trees lining the path, I suddenly feel frozen, as if the very air around me has thickened. My heart races, and I can’t move. What’s going on? Panic rises within me, and I scream, “Kira, is that you?”“No,” a deep voice replies, and I turn to see the general stepping out from the woods, his expression unreadable.“What is this?” I snarl at him, my voice trembling with a mix of fear and anger. “What do you want?”“It’s just a test, Alyssa,” the general says, h
Kiras POVNora’s face is as white as a sheet as she hands Cara a glass of water, her hands trembling slightly. “Drink this,” she says, her voice low and urgent. I can see the worry etched on her features, and it sends a chill down my spine.Cara takes the glass, her hands shaking as she brings it to her lips. She drinks it down quickly, and I watch, my heart racing. Almost immediately, her eyes widen in shock, and then she slumps forward, unconscious.“Oh, I should have known that’s what she did!” Nora exclaims, her voice rising in frustration. She runs a hand through her hair, her expression a mix of anger and fear.“Who?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper, but I already have a sinking feeling in my gut.“My sister, Astra… She must have followed me,” Nora says, her eyes narrowing as she glances toward the door, as if expecting Astra to burst in at any moment.“Mother, I need you to explain everything to me. Everything!” I scream, my anger boiling over. I can’t believe this is ha
Kiras POVThe sun hangs low in the sky, casting long shadows across my room as I pace back and forth, my mind racing with thoughts of Alyssa.I feel the weight of the world pressing down on me, and the air is thick with the scent of impending conflict. It isn’t just about the wedding; it is everything. Alyssa is stronger than I ever anticipated, and the thought of her being a potential threat to my plans sends a shiver down my spine.Gwen bursts through the door, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “So, when is the wedding?” she asks, practically bouncing on her toes.I snap, “I don’t know, Gwen.” The words come out sharper than I intend, but I can’t help it. Zev walked out during dinner, leaving me feeling frustrated and confused.“Wait, what?” Gen asks, her brow furrowing in surprise.“You heared me, girls,” I say, trying to keep my voice steady. “Now stop asking questions and help me figure out a way to get rid of Alyssa.” I watch as their faces brighten with smiles, and for a mome
Zevs POVI’m standing there, watching Alyssa disappear from my sight, her figure growing smaller until the trees swallow her whole. My heart feels like it’s being crushed under the weight of my mistakes.“I’m so sorry, Zev,” Cara says softly beside me, her voice barely above a whisper.“Why are you sorry, Cara?” I reply, frustration bubbling up inside me. “Alyssa is right. I should have told her everything when I had the chance.” My voice is thick with regret, each word a reminder of my failure.“Why didn’t you?” Cara asks, her eyes searching mine for answers.“When, Cara? When I was saving her from Moonborn? Or when we were fighting the Bloodclan?” I snap, my frustration spilling over. I can feel the heat rising in my cheeks, the anger directed at myself.“That’s an excuse, Zev, and you know that,” she counters, her tone firm but gentle.“I know, Cara,” I sigh, running a hand through my hair. “But it was never my intention to fall for her. When I first found Alyssa, I thought my enga
Alyssas PovI’m walking away from the training ground, the sun hanging low in the sky, casting a warm glow over the trees. The air is crisp, filled with the earthy scent of pine and damp soil. My heart is still racing from the day’s exercises, but I can’t help but feel a flicker of hope. It’s not so bad here. Everyone seems welcoming, their laughter echoing in the distance, wrapping around me like a comforting blanket.“Alyssa, what do you think?” Cara’s voice breaks through my thoughts, her excitement bubbling over as she skips beside me. “Fenrath is not as bad as you thought, is it?” she finishes, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.I shake my head, a sigh escaping my lips. “Cara, it’s not about Fenrath being good or bad. I just want my freedom.” My voice is steady, but the weight of my words hangs heavy in the air. “I don’t want to answer to anyone.”“But you are a werewolf,” Cara insists, her brow furrowing in concern. “We are pack creatures. If you leave, you will always be an o
