Jayven's PoV

My brows fused into a deep frown when I saw that miscreant behind Wendy. She stood like a good girl, holding her hands and resting them against her thighs with her head angled towards the tiles.

I clenched my jaw, feeling my skin crawl just by the sight of Lyra. I looked away from her, now glueing my eyes to Wendy.

"What replacement?" Tia and I chorused.

We shared a glance before looking back at Wendy, who had a fearful expression on her face.

"Sir, you asked me to replace the Alpha's previous personal maid," Wendy answered with a voice that was barely above a whisper.

"Why?" Tia asked, and I could feel her gaze burning the side of my face. "Did she do something wrong?"

"No," I responded, turning to face her. "She is currently ill and wouldn't be able to tend to your needs, so I asked Wendy to get a new maid."

"Oh," Tia said and then averted her gaze to Lyra, standing timidly behind Wendy. "Come on out, girl."
