Zanna/Tia's PoV

"Because this is more than urgent than you think," Vyn responded, and Shirley reclined in her seat, flicking a finger at the bar man.

I turned in his direction, wondering what she motioned for. My brows fused into a frown. I hoped she wasn't asking him to do something absurd to us.

He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and handed it to her. Somehow, I felt relief washing over me.

She opened the box and placed a stick of cigarette in her mouth, while the bartender held a lighter over it, allowing the flame to turn it on.

I watched her like a predator watching its prey as she sucked a lung full of the cigarette and puffed it out. My jaw ticked, and my left eye twitched as I felt my patience hanging at the edge of a cliff.

"I doubt it's my business," Shirley responded, and I stiffened, ready to pounce on her.

"Even if it's life and death?" Vyn inquired, peering into her eyes as if searching for answers.

I curled my fingers into fists.
