‎Three days had passed since the Lycan King left the Bloodwood Clan, taking a triumphant Tanya with him in a lavish royal carriage. For the pack, it was a historic honor. For Elena, it was a return to peaceful normalcy.

‎With Tanya gone, the kitchen was slightly quieter, and Elena spent her free hours slipping away to her hidden stone cabin in the ravine. She meticulously restocked her shelves, grinding dried aconite and filtering fresh batches of nutrient-dense serums. The memory of King Ethan’s piercing golden eyes still haunted her dreams, but she convinced herself she was safe. The masquerade had worked.

‎That peace shattered on the fourth morning.

‎Elena was in the middle of sorting a fresh delivery of winter berries in the pantry when the heavy wooden door was kicked open. Two of Alpha Bloodwood’s highest-ranking warriors marched in, their expressions unusually grim.

‎"Elena," the lead warrior barked. "Drop the baskets. The Alpha wants you in the great hall immediately."

‎Elena wiped her stained hands on her apron, a sudden chill settling in her stomach. "Did I do something wrong? The kitchen floors were scrubbed—"

‎"Quiet. Just move," he ordered, grabbing her roughly by the elbow and pulling her out of the room.

‎When Elena was thrown into the grand hall, she realized the entire pack elders' council was gathered. At the center of the room stood an official messenger from the Lycan Capital, dressed in pristine silver and black armor. Alpha Bloodwood was pacing the floor, looking incredibly stressed, holding a crumpled piece of parchment in his hands.

‎"There she is," Alpha Bloodwood said, pointing an accusing finger at Elena. He looked at the royal messenger. "Are you absolutely certain the Lady Tanya requested her? She is just an unshifted Omega. A kitchen maid. She has no skills worthy of the royal palace."

‎The royal messenger stood perfectly rigid. "Lady Tanya’s orders were absolute, Alpha Bloodwood. She stated that her transition into the King's court requires familiar staff. She specifically demanded that the Omega servant named Elena be sent to the Capital immediately to act as her personal handmaid in the royal laboratory."

‎Elena’s heart stopped. The royal laboratory.

‎It all clicked instantly. Tanya had arrived at the capital, boasting about her brilliant medical mind, and King Ethan had immediately put her to work. He had likely demanded she recreate the complex nightshade counter-agent to prove her worth—and Tanya, who couldn't tell the difference between a medicinal root and a common weed, was in a state of absolute panic. She needed her "useless kitchen rat" to do the actual science for her before the King realized she was an imposter.

‎"Why are you staring like a fool?" Alpha Bloodwood snapped at Elena. "You should be kissing the floor. Thanks to Lady Tanya’s generosity, a useless wolf like you gets to see the capital. Pack a single bag. The royal carriage leaves in an hour. If you embarrass our pack in front of the King, I will personally ensure you are exiled to the rogue territories."

‎"I understand, Alpha," Elena whispered, bowing her head to hide the fierce, calculating spark in her eyes.

‎An hour later, Elena sat in the back of a covered transport wagon, watching the gates of the Bloodwood Clan fade into the distance. She clutched her worn canvas satchel tightly against her chest. Inside, hidden beneath her ragged spare tunic, were three small, concentrated vials of her specialized herbal formulas and her most valuable research notebook.

‎She knew she was walking directly into a lion's den. Tanya was going to try and use her as a ghostwriter for her medical lies, treating her like a slave while taking all the credit and wealth. And worse, King Ethan would be there a man whose predatory instincts were sharper than a blade, still hunting for the fated mate whose scent he couldn't forget.

‎As the carriage crossed the border into the majestic, towering spires of the Lycan Capital, Elena tightened her grip on her bag. She had spent her entire life surviving in the shadows of a brutal pack. Tanya thought she was bringing a helpless servant to do her dirty work, but Elena was a scientist.

‎If she had to play the game of thrones in the King's court, she would use every ounce of her intellect to play it to win.

Six years in the northern waters had yielded volumes of empirical wonders. The charting of the deep sub-polar currents had revolutionized continental shipping, while Queen Elena’s discovery of mineral-rich thermal vents under the pack ice had provided a perpetual, non-polluting heat exchange system for the northern frontier towns. The Meridian Dawn had become a legend among sailors and scholars alike—a ship that chased answers rather than conquests. Now, on a golden autumn afternoon, the seasoned expedition vessel slipped back into the sheltered waters of the capital basin. The city of the Sovereign Meridian had flourished into a living marvel. Sleek, arched bridges of lightweight steel spanned the turquoise waters of the river; copper-domed public academies stood surrounded by terraced, green orchards; and silent, electric-steam carriages moved along clean cobblestone boulevards without a trace of the choking black soot that had darkened the world a generation ago. As the vessel

The northern port of Frost-Anchor had changed beyond recognition.Once a bleak penal outpost on the edge of the glacial shelf, it was now an active scientific deep-water haven. Iron-reinforced piers cut through the dark, icy surf, kept clear of pack ice by a continuous loop of thermal-brine discharge routed from the sub-glacial geothermal taps.Moored at the end of the central stone pier rested the Meridian Dawn—not a battleship bristling with heavy artillery, but an oceanic exploration vessel engineered specifically for sub-polar navigation. Her hull was double-sheathed in cold-tempered titanium alloy, her draft designed to glide through ice floes, powered by an advanced silent hydro-turbine manifold. On the snow-swept stone quay, Prince Cassian adjusted the collar of his insulated winter cloak as the bitter Arctic wind whipped off the gray sea."The atmospheric pressure over the northern trench has been fluctuating by three millibars every six hours," Cassian said, handing a brass-b

Three years after the first surge of white-gold light linked the two continents, the Grand Rotunda of the Imperial Institute had ceased to resemble a court of war.The vaulted stone ceilings—once hung with battle-torn banners and iron heraldry—now housed a sweeping celestial sphere constructed of hollow brass rings and polished quartz lenses. The device rotated silently above the chamber floor, driven by clean geothermal power tapped directly from the capital’s underground distribution loop.Below it, hundreds of scholars, diplomats, and regional governors sat in tiered amphitheatres. The traditional separation of ranks was completely absent. Alchemists sat alongside Lycan pack leaders; Western engineers in clean linen tunics shared drafting tables with southern botanists. At the central circular dais stood Prince Cassian and Princess Victoria.Cassian wore the deep-blue mantle of the Imperial High Council, the silver trim along his collar denoting his dual authority as Commander of t

The celebration aboard Station Meridian had shifted from the roaring main deck to the private, glass-domed observatory on the upper level. Outside, the thirty-two deep-sea pylons formed an unbroken constellation across the water, their steady white-gold illumination cutting through the ocean mist and reflecting like liquid starlight off the dark waves.Inside the quiet rotunda, Prince Cassian stood by an arched window overlooking the trench. He had unbuttoned the stiff silver collar of his uniform jacket, a glass of chilled southern cider resting untouched on the brass sill beside him.The soft, measured click of low-heeled boots across the slate tiles drew his attention.Princess Victoria stepped up to the neighboring window frame. She had removed her formal sash, holding a rolled leather cylinder containing the signed activation logs. The faint, clean smell of salt air and machine oil lingered about her—a contrast to the perfumed silks of the foreign envoys lingering in the banquet

The southern horizon had never looked so alive.Stretching from the breakwaters of Port Solis all the way past the misty rim of the continental shelf, thirty-two colossal pylons rose from the churning ocean like iron sentinels. Each pylon was anchored directly into the granite bedrock of the seabed, crowned with sweeping copper induction coils and shielded by the streamlined hydraulic fins Victoria had redesigned.High on the primary offshore platform—a sprawling octagonal hub of reinforced plate and brass conduits named Station Meridian—hundreds of dignitaries, scholars, and naval commanders stood crowded behind the safety balustrades. At the center of the control rotunda, Prince Cassian stood before the main primary transmission valve. He wore the formal midnight-blue coat of the Imperial Vanguard, the high silver collar fastened with the twin crests of the Sovereign Meridian and the Western Engineering Corps.Beside him, Princess Victoria tightened the final seal on a vacuum-glass

Two months following the return from the northern shelf, the southern coast of the Sovereign Meridian was alive with the sound of pneumatic hammers and the steady hum of electric induction turbines. At the edge of the newly christened Port Solis, a massive concrete and steel breakwater extended half a league into the deep blue water of the gulf. This was the staging ground for the Trans-Oceanic Conduit—the ambitious joint venture between the Sovereign Meridian and the Western Empire designed to route clean, stabilized geothermal energy across the sea trench, rendering fossil fuels completely obsolete.Standing atop the central control platform, Prince Cassian reviewed a stack of blueprints laid out across an iron drafting table. He wore a practical leather work coat over his dark uniform, his sleeves rolled up to the forearms."The underwater pressure casings on sector three are registering a two-percent vibration variance," Cassian noted, tapping a dial connected to a sub-sea hydro-s
