Chapter Forty Two

Lilian knew it was probably irresponsible of her to be drinking in the garden at this hour of the day when she ought to be preparing to welcome her visitors who were arriving for dinner in a few hours, but she couldn't care less as her brain was frozen, and mind was all over the place.

She gulped down some liquor from her glass cup, loving the strong feeling it had on her throat, trying to shake off all the strange thoughts and conclusions she was having in her head.

Her phone rang beside her. She sighed, looking at the caller ID to see who it was. She heaved another sigh seeing that it was her daughter. But she picked up anyway.

"Hey, Mom. I know I promised you I was going to come earlier but something came up but I should be with you by 6."

"Mom...!!!"

"Are you even listening to me?"

"Yeah, yeah, I can hear you."

"You aren't going to scold me about it? Is anything the matter?"

"You sound disturbed."

"The dinner isn't going as planned?"

"No, that's not it."

"Then what is it?"
