In a particular villa, Livienne was exercising in the backyard in the early morning.
A doctor came to her and handed her a report.
After checking the report, she looked up at the female doctor. “Am I free of those fibroids now?”
“Yes, but I wouldn’t recommend you having sex for another month,” the doctor said. “As long as you avoid eating toxic junk food, it will not return.”
“Thank you, Doctor Geetha. You really brought my confidence back,” Livienne said. “As a gesture of my thanks, you can choose any new car that’s in the market. I will have it sent to your home by evening.”
Geetha was elated to hear that. “Thanks a lot, Miss Penn.”
Livienne then went into the villa, and Alfred was waiting for her in the hall.
“You were correct, ma’am,” he handed her an envelope. “They sent this through your lawyer.”
It wasn’t an ordinary envelope. Just looking at the decorations on it, she could tell that it was a wedding card.
Livienne opened it, and inside two names were written: Regan Cross and Selena Diore.
“He said he’ll send her away in one month, but now he’s marrying her…” she crumpled the wedding card and tossed it away in frustration. “How can he move on so fast?”
“What do you intend to do now, Ma’am?” Alfred asked.
“Since they sent the invitation, I’m going to have to send them a gift at least,” Livienne said. “It’s time to meet my uncle and reveal myself to the world.”
Alfred’s eyes brightened. “I’ve been waiting for this day for so long.”
Livienne then left the villa, took a private jet that landed straight in the specialized airpark inside the ultra luxurious Penn mansion.
The teenagers who were planning tennis stopped. The young ladies and guys enjoying at the pool also turned their heads toward the airpark.
The Lady of the Penn mansion, who was sitting on the front balcony and was reading the book ‘Savvy Son-in-law,’ also had her attention shift toward the gray private jet.
“I didn’t know someone was arriving,” she said.
“I wasn’t informed, either, Lady Brienne,” the head steward of the family standing behind her said. “Let me quickly check.” He made a phone call and spoke for a few seconds, then said, “It seems the son of the previous steward has asked for permission to land.”
“The previous steward?” Brienne frowned ever so slightly. “Give me the bins.”
The steward immediately opened a wooden shelf nearby, took out a pair of binoculars.
Brienne peered through the bins and spotted a young lady stepping out of the private jet. It took her a couple of seconds to recognize the tall brunette with long hair.
Her fingers flinched for a second.
The steward noticed that. “Who is it, Madam?” he asked.
Brienne lowered the binoculars and said, “Tell everyone to gather in the hall. The heir of the Penn family is back.”
The steward was startled. “Y-Yes. I’ll inform everyone right away.”
Brienne got up and personally drove an SUV and went to the airpark. She stepped out and greeted the brunette with a smile. “Vivienne, look at you… you look like a Disney princess.”
“You are praising me too much, Aunt Brienne,” Vivienne gave her a mild hug.
“Haha, I’m not exaggerating. You’ve always looked great, but now, you’re in your prime,” Brienne said. “Even models will lose their confidence if you walk in their midst.”
Brienne was 176 cm tall and good-looking despite her age, but Vivienne was three centimeters taller and was also slim and exceedingly fair.
A month back, she was under depression and sick, but now, she regained her health, and her complexion looked so much better.
“Is Uncle David home?” Vivienne asked.
“He’s abroad, but I’ll tell him that you’re here,” Brienne said. “He’ll get back soon.”
“If he’s out on important work, you don’t have to disturb him now.”
“Nothing is more important than his niece to your uncle,” Brienne said, chortling. She then looked at Alfred. “Are you the son of Aegon?”
“Yes, ma’am,” Alfred slightly bowed his head.
“You don’t quite look like him.”
“I got my mother’s genes, mostly.”
“I see,” Brienne tossed him the keys.
Brienne and Vivienne sat in the back of the car. Alfred drove to the mansion.
Vivienne entered the hall, and there were nearly sixteen people waiting in two lines. Some of them appeared a bit nervous. Some were curious, while some others were indifferent.
“Most of you may not recognize her…” Brienne said, “but she’s the owner of this mansion. Due to some personal reasons, she left the mansion about fourteen years ago. Now, she’s back. You’re all going to treat her with greater respect than you treat my husband.”
Many of those people didn’t quite like what Brienne said.
“Why is she back now?” one young lady asked. She was Brienne’s only daughter, Teresa.
“She doesn’t have to explain to you or to anyone,” Brienne retorted, then turned to face Vivienne and smiled. “Your bedroom is left the way it is. You can live there.”
Vivienne nodded. “Thank you, Aunt.” She glanced over at the faces of everyone there. She barely recognized some of those faces because it had been a long time, and she was just entering her teenage years back when she left the villa.
One of the young men stepped forward with a smile. “It’s so good to see you again, Vivienne.” He touched her hand, gently held it and lifted it before lowering his head and kissing it.
Everyone in the hall was surprised.
This blonde young man who was nearing his thirties was Anthony Brackett, the first son of Vivienne’s father’s sister. He was Vivienne’s cousin and was very close with Vivienne when they were kids.
Vivienne was also a bit surprised by his action, but out of the friendship they had, she did not scold him for kissing her hand out of the blue.
She calmly withdrew her hand and went upstairs, straight into her room.
Everyone in the hall began to chatter.
“If she’s the owner of the mansion, then what’s going to happen to us, Mom?” Teresa asked. “Do we have to leave the mansion we grew up in?”
“Of course not,” Brienne said. “I’m still here, am I not? Even if God himself comes down to the earth, he won’t be able to push us out of this mansion. So, don’t fret, Teresa. However, I need you to set your attitude straight before Vivienne.”
“Huh, okay,” Teresa half-heartedly said.
In Vivienne’s room.
Vivienne was sitting on her bed, holding a photoframe of her and her parents together. “I still don’t know if it was an accident or murder, Mom. But I will not stop until I’m certain.”
Two days later. The Cross Estate has become lively and busy because the wedding day of Regan and Selena has arrived. The decorations had begun since last night, and freshly-cooked food was brought to the front yard, not far from where the wedding aisle was set up.Only 1000 important guests were invited to the wedding, and Evelyn was busy greeting the guests and also in making important deals with them.“If Selena joins the Cross family, then all of her properties will become yours,” Blake Harrington said. “This is a brilliant move by you. How did you convince Selena and her relatives to this marriage?”“Convincing them was easy,” Evelyn said. “Convincing my son, however, was a little difficult.”“Haha, you did well to get rid of his useless first wife. I don’t even remember her name.”“I didn’t get rid of her. She found someone else and decided to divorce.”“Oh, poor women can never be trusted.”“You’re damn right.”Just then, Evelyn’s husband, William, came over and whispered in her

Livienne was sitting in the back of the SUV, still wearing the dress from Regan's birthday, but something felt missing. Her fingers kept rubbing the spot where the wedding ring was supposed to be. For three years, she had worn it every day. But more than the ring, something else felt vacant.“Should I take you home, Miss?” Alfred, who was in the driver seat, asked. He was a curly-haired guy wearing a suit and glasses. But he also had a blade earring on his right ear.“No, there’s something I need to confirm,” Livienne said, her eyes narrowing a bit. “Take me to this address first.”Alfred drove to where she wanted to go.To his surprise, it was a multispeciality hospital with ten floors.“Why are we here?” Alfred asked. “Is something wrong with your health?”“Just stay here. I’ll be back in a few minutes,” Livienne said and then entered the hospital on her own.Alfred was confused. “After divorce, she came straight to the hospital. It’s not what I’m thinking, right? Abortion is a bit…
11:57 PM.Livienne was staring at the wall clock while seated on the couch in the living room. The room was silent because all the guests had left.Livienne’s heart was ringing in her ears. She was trying not to bite on her fingernails, but her heel kept tapping on the carpeted floor. At 11:59 PM.She heard footsteps. She knew it was Regan, so she immediately stood. With the divorce papers in hand, Regan looked her in the eye and said, “I won’t divorce you.”Livienne tried not to smile or show any happiness. “Then what about Selena?”Regan’s lips pressed together. “She’ll stay here for a few more days.”Livienne’s face stiffened. “You’re not the only friend she has in this city, Regan. She still came to you after cheating on you because she’s after you. She wants you.”“She will leave after a month,” Regan said.“And what if she doesn’t?” Livienne snorted. “One month can change a lot of things. A lot of hearts.”Regan’s gaze sharpened. “Do you not trust me? I’ll only help until she ca
Livienne didn't go down the stairs again. She went upstairs and pushed open the door to a private lounge. The moment the door closed behind her, the music and laughter from the party became distant. She leaned against the door. For a few seconds, she simply stood there. Then she went to the bed and moved the pillow aside. The divorce papers were still there. And so was one of the gifts she had prepared for Regan.A small black box.Livienne stared at it.She had spent three years imagining the moment she could tell everything to Regan, but now, all her efforts felt ridiculous. After a minute, she took out a second phone from the hidden compartment of her handbag. This mobile had no photographs, no social media, no personal contacts, except one number. She called it.The call connected almost instantly.“Are you safe, Miss?” a warm voice hit her ear.“... Yes, Alfred.”“If you’re calling me, it means you’re ready to return. I’ll make the arrangements.”Livienne looked at her reflection
"Regan’s wife."The words followed Livienne Cross through the ballroom like a stain that wouldn't wash away. She did not stop. Her heels clicked against the marble floor as dozens of rich guests turned to look at her. Some smiled, and some whispered. Some others didn't bother lowering their voices."That's Regan Cross's wife.""Is it true that she got the fibroids?""Yeah. Apparently, the doctors told her pregnancy would be difficult.""Then why hasn't he divorced her?"“She’s pretty as a gazelle, though.”“Pretty doesn’t make an heir. Even though she’s got the looks of a gazelle, who would want to catch STDs.”“Eww. I would be really surprised if Regan doesn’t divorce her soon.”A few people laughed.Livienne’s fingers tightened around the stem of her champagne glass. “Did Regan’s parents spread the news about my condition?” She bit her lower lip. “How could they?”As more laughter stung her soul, she kept walking, her eyes not stopping at anybody as there wasn’t a single ally around
