Livienne was sitting in the back of the SUV, still wearing the dress from Regan's birthday, but something felt missing.

Her fingers kept rubbing the spot where the wedding ring was supposed to be. For three years, she had worn it every day. But more than the ring, something else felt vacant.

“Should I take you home, Miss?” Alfred, who was in the driver seat, asked.

He was a curly-haired guy wearing a suit and glasses. But he also had a blade earring on his right ear.

“No, there’s something I need to confirm,” Livienne said, her eyes narrowing a bit. “Take me to this address first.”

Alfred drove to where she wanted to go.

To his surprise, it was a multispeciality hospital with ten floors.

“Why are we here?” Alfred asked. “Is something wrong with your health?”

“Just stay here. I’ll be back in a few minutes,” Livienne said and then entered the hospital on her own.

Alfred was confused. “After divorce, she came straight to the hospital. It’s not what I’m thinking, right? Abortion is a bit… No, what am I thinking? Miss Livienne’s expression was serious right now. She didn’t come here for a simple reason. Someone in that hospital is going to regret it.”

On the sixth floor, where the Obstetrics and Gynecology department was situated.

After asking about a particular doctor, Livienne went straight to the semi-ICU.

The guards outside didn’t let her in because she did not have an entry token. “Only the staff or those related to the patients can enter.”

She showed them her medical card and said, “If you don’t let me in now, you’ll lose your jobs.”

Their instincts told them to listen to her, and they moved away.

Livienne then met the lady doctor who was giving a lecture to her interns around a patient’s bed.

“Doctor Jennifer,” Livienne walked right through the students and met her. “Do you have a minute?”

Jennifer remembered her. “Yes. Let’s go to my room.”

Livienne quietly followed her.

Once they went to the room, Jennifer pulled the curtains of the windows. “You are Mr. Regan’s wife, right? What brought you here at this hour? Is there any emergency?”

“I just want you to answer me one thing honestly,” Livienne said, her eyes growing sharper. “I’ve undergone surgeries twice in the past two and half years, and both times, the surgeries did not give me good results. I want to know if my mother-in-law has anything to do with that or not.”

Jennifer’s expression changed. She forced out a smile and said, “Are you doubting my honor, Mrs. Cross? Did you even tell Mr. Regan that you came here?” “She grabbed her mobile.

Livienne’s gaze sharpened greatly. “You know me as Regan’s wife,” she said quietly. “But before I became Livienne Cross, I was someone else.”

Jennifer frowned.

When the next words came out of Livienne’s mouth, all color drained from Jennifer's face.

Her phone slipped from her fingers and struck the floor. She stood so quickly that her chair scraped backward. “M-Miss Penn…” She quickly lowered her spine. “Please forgive me. I didn’t do it because I wanted to. Evelyn Cross threatened me that I’d lose my job if I didn’t do as she says.”

“What exactly did Evelyn Cross tell you to do?” Livienne asked. “Did she tell you to sabotage the surgeries?”

“No,” Jennifer kept her head lowered. “She didn't ask me to ruin the surgeries. The surgeries themselves were successful, but..”

Livienne's eyes narrow. “Then what did she ask?”

“S-She… she told me to make sure you never recover completely.”

Livienne’s jaw hardened after hearing that. “What?”

Jennifer then explained that Evelyn pressured her to alter the treatment plan, delay certain procedures, withhold information about alternative treatments, and recommend procedures that had poor odds. “It wasn’t the surgeries that failed, but the process quality that led to the failure of your recovery. Just one additional tablet that you’re taking is halting your recovery process.”

Livienne’s gut twisted. “So that’s why I still suffer from severe pain during every period.”

She knew that her mother-in-law never liked her, but she didn’t think Evelyn would go to such great lengths to ruin Livienne.

“To be honest, your condition is not as severe as you think,” Jennifer added softly. “With right treatment, you can recover completely in a couple of months. I will-”

Livienne got up from the seat and stared coldly at Jennifer. “As much as I want to have your license removed, I want to give you a chance. From now on, for the next ten years, you will spend half of your salary for taking care of sick patients, without revealing it to the public. I’ll be watching you, so if you fail to do it even with one month’s salary, then you will not just lose your license… but everything.”

“I-I will do as you say, ma’am,” Jennifer was in tears.

“Send me an email detailing everything about my condition,” Livienne said. “I’ll get treated at a different hospital.”

“Y-Yes, ma’am. I’ll send it ASAP.”

Livienne then came out of the hospital, feeling anger boiling in her chest.

Alfred opened the door for her.

She got in.

Alfred drove away at a steady pace. He wanted to ask her why she went to the hospital, but he couldn’t because she looked upset.

“Alfred, do you think I can bring Evelyn Cross to her knees?” Livienne asked.

Alfred was not expecting that. “The Cross family have deep connections in both the business and the political world. They aren’t easy opponents. Reaching to an agreement may be possible, but bringing the Lady of the Cross family to her knees? That’s kind of impossible.”

Livienne’s gaze remained heavy. “How can you decide something is impossible without even trying?”

Alfred looked at her through the rearview mirror. “What are you planning, Miss?”

Livienne looked out at the city disappearing behind them. “Nothing yet. First, I'm going to find out how much my mother-in-law took from me. Then I'll make her pay.”

Two days later. The Cross Estate has become lively and busy because the wedding day of Regan and Selena has arrived. The decorations had begun since last night, and freshly-cooked food was brought to the front yard, not far from where the wedding aisle was set up.Only 1000 important guests were invited to the wedding, and Evelyn was busy greeting the guests and also in making important deals with them.“If Selena joins the Cross family, then all of her properties will become yours,” Blake Harrington said. “This is a brilliant move by you. How did you convince Selena and her relatives to this marriage?”“Convincing them was easy,” Evelyn said. “Convincing my son, however, was a little difficult.”“Haha, you did well to get rid of his useless first wife. I don’t even remember her name.”“I didn’t get rid of her. She found someone else and decided to divorce.”“Oh, poor women can never be trusted.”“You’re damn right.”Just then, Evelyn’s husband, William, came over and whispered in her

One month later. In a particular villa, Livienne was exercising in the backyard in the early morning.A doctor came to her and handed her a report. After checking the report, she looked up at the female doctor. “Am I free of those fibroids now?”“Yes, but I wouldn’t recommend you having sex for another month,” the doctor said. “As long as you avoid eating toxic junk food, it will not return.”“Thank you, Doctor Geetha. You really brought my confidence back,” Livienne said. “As a gesture of my thanks, you can choose any new car that’s in the market. I will have it sent to your home by evening.”Geetha was elated to hear that. “Thanks a lot, Miss Penn.”Livienne then went into the villa, and Alfred was waiting for her in the hall.“You were correct, ma’am,” he handed her an envelope. “They sent this through your lawyer.”It wasn’t an ordinary envelope. Just looking at the decorations on it, she could tell that it was a wedding card.Livienne opened it, and inside two names were written:

11:57 PM.Livienne was staring at the wall clock while seated on the couch in the living room. The room was silent because all the guests had left.Livienne’s heart was ringing in her ears. She was trying not to bite on her fingernails, but her heel kept tapping on the carpeted floor. At 11:59 PM.She heard footsteps. She knew it was Regan, so she immediately stood. With the divorce papers in hand, Regan looked her in the eye and said, “I won’t divorce you.”Livienne tried not to smile or show any happiness. “Then what about Selena?”Regan’s lips pressed together. “She’ll stay here for a few more days.”Livienne’s face stiffened. “You’re not the only friend she has in this city, Regan. She still came to you after cheating on you because she’s after you. She wants you.”“She will leave after a month,” Regan said.“And what if she doesn’t?” Livienne snorted. “One month can change a lot of things. A lot of hearts.”Regan’s gaze sharpened. “Do you not trust me? I’ll only help until she ca

Livienne didn't go down the stairs again. She went upstairs and pushed open the door to a private lounge. The moment the door closed behind her, the music and laughter from the party became distant. She leaned against the door. For a few seconds, she simply stood there. Then she went to the bed and moved the pillow aside. The divorce papers were still there. And so was one of the gifts she had prepared for Regan.A small black box.Livienne stared at it.She had spent three years imagining the moment she could tell everything to Regan, but now, all her efforts felt ridiculous. After a minute, she took out a second phone from the hidden compartment of her handbag. This mobile had no photographs, no social media, no personal contacts, except one number. She called it.The call connected almost instantly.“Are you safe, Miss?” a warm voice hit her ear.“... Yes, Alfred.”“If you’re calling me, it means you’re ready to return. I’ll make the arrangements.”Livienne looked at her reflection

"Regan’s wife."The words followed Livienne Cross through the ballroom like a stain that wouldn't wash away. She did not stop. Her heels clicked against the marble floor as dozens of rich guests turned to look at her. Some smiled, and some whispered. Some others didn't bother lowering their voices."That's Regan Cross's wife.""Is it true that she got the fibroids?""Yeah. Apparently, the doctors told her pregnancy would be difficult.""Then why hasn't he divorced her?"“She’s pretty as a gazelle, though.”“Pretty doesn’t make an heir. Even though she’s got the looks of a gazelle, who would want to catch STDs.”“Eww. I would be really surprised if Regan doesn’t divorce her soon.”A few people laughed.Livienne’s fingers tightened around the stem of her champagne glass. “Did Regan’s parents spread the news about my condition?” She bit her lower lip. “How could they?”As more laughter stung her soul, she kept walking, her eyes not stopping at anybody as there wasn’t a single ally around
