Calming a Raging Wolf
Amber stood, the screaming, which had started as two low voices going at each other, was now full-blown shouting and definitely more than just two voices. She followed the screaming and found Mya leaning against Sam’s door frame, arms crossed over her chest. “What’s going on?” Amber asked her.
“Mark wants Sam to release Jake to him.”
“Oh.” Amber knew that this would come. Ever since she’d spoken to Diane and found out that she’d almost walked in on the two men going at it. She hated that it was causing trouble between Mark and Sam. But it was also understandable that Sam was reluctant to let an enemy loose on pack ground. Jake had proven on more than one occasion that he would betray them without a second thought. “Who’s winning the argument?” Amber asked. Diane and Lucy were in the middle of the fight too.

Mya woke with Taylor curled into her side. Taylor’s hand was on her breast and her breathing even. They’d slept for the first time in a long while. She kissed Taylor’s head and gently moved out of her grasp. She stood and after using the bathroom, made her way downstairs. The first thing Mya saw when she walked into the conference room was Hunter. The vampire was pacing the length of the room, her hands buried deep in her pockets and her head down. Amber could see something was bugging Sam as she walked back into the conference room. She stood and met her at the coffee table.“What’s wrong?” She asked quietly. Gem tasted blood as she bit down on her tongue and the inside of her cheek. The coppery taste of her own blood made her want to throw up but she refused to scream. She would not give this woman the satisfaction! She was sitting in a wooden kitchen chair, her hands tied behind her back and her legs tied to the legs of the chair. Blood dripped from her arms onto the floor where the woman sliced at her forearms and biceps. Drops of blood dripped onto her cheeks from the strands of hair that were plastered to her forehead. She wasn’t sure where those came from. Pain radiated through her whole body, and she’d lost count of the places that the woman had cut or burned. Sam sat on the steps of the back porch, watching the rain fall quietly. They’d been home for over an hour and Addi still wasn’t home. Amber told her not to worry, but she always would. Addi was her life. Amber and Addi were her whole world. She listened for a moment and heard the soft breathing behind her. She smiled and turned her head to look up at Amber. Tilting her head, she patted the spot next to her. Amber smiled too and walked over to sit down next to her.“You’re still worried,” Amber said. And she did speak to someone, she didn’t try and sort this out herself.”“She spoke to a stranger, instead of us,” Sam grumbled.“Yes, sometimes it’s easier to do that,” Amber said. “And we have been distracted, neither of us noticed what she was going through.” Amber shook her head.
