The past few weeks had been a whirlwind of anticipation, but today, as I stepped out of Elegance Jewelry's headquarters, a radiant smile spread across my face.

Clutched in my hand was the official letter confirming my position as a jewelry designer at one of Elegance Company.

My fingers trembled slightly from joy. I wanted to laugh, cry, and scream all at once.

I had done it!

Without hesitation, I pulled out my phone and dialed my mother’s number. Even with all the excitement bubbling inside me, my first instinct was to call her — the woman who had shaped so much of who I was, the reason I had fallen in love with making jewelry in the first place.

The line rang a few times before she finally answered.

"Hello?" Her voice was cool, a bit cold, reminding me of the strain in our relationship.

"Mom, it's me," I began, trying to control my excitement just a little. "I have some news I'd love to share with you. Could we meet for lunch today?"

There was a pause, and I cou

AmberI took a long, shaky breath the moment I stepped out of my car.I needed to do this.I had to do this.It was the only way I could silence the guilty conscience that had been eating at me for almost a week. Every night, the same knot tightened in my chest, reminding me that I was avoiding something I shouldn’t be running away from.I closed my eyes for a second and whispered to myself, “Get it together, Amber. You really need to do this.”When I opened my eyes, my gaze landed on the tall glass building in front of me—the headquarters of Marcus’ company.Ever since that stupid, impulsive night when Marcus kissed me, everything between us had changed. He pretended nothing happened, maintaining a polite distance. We still attended a few meetings together, still exchanged necessary information, still acted like professionals. He kept his composure perfectly. But for me?I wasn’t comfortable around him anymore.I wasn’t comfortable around myself either. No matter how hard I tried to

Cole“Find him! Right now!”My voice thundered through the operations room, making half the team flinch. The analysts from Unit Viper, the division responsible for tracking field operatives, scrambled back to their stations, fingers flying across keyboards as they tried to reestablish a visual feed of Xavier. My chest tightened with each passing second.Goddamn it, Xavier. He had promised. He had promised he would keep the line open, keep the cameras on, keep communication steady. He had promised he wouldn’t go rogue. And yet here we were.“Sir…” one of the technicians stammered, “w-we still can’t locate the signal. All feeds from the cameras and the comm device have been…”“Destroyed?!” I snapped. “Then try harder! Do your goddamn job and find him!”The room fell into a tense, panicked silence as they pushed even faster, screens flashing lines of code.I turned sharply toward Inspector Fred.“Send the unit closest to his location,” I ordered. “Now. Tell them to move in immediately. S

Xavier“Welcome, Mr. Xavier.”My whole body tensed instinctively as I turned toward the direction of the sound, but being blindfolded, I saw nothing but darkness. For the past hour, maybe more, I had been driven around in circles, transferred between two different cars, and escorted by silent masked guards who didn’t speak a single word to me. My questions went unanswered. My attempts at conversation were all ignored. And now… we were here.Wherever “here” was.I heard footsteps approaching. A hand brushed near my face, and then fingers tugged at the fabric tied around my eyes.Light burst in.Not painfully bright, but enough to make me squint hard as the blindfold was pulled off completely. It took me a few seconds before everything stopped blurring. Two men stood in front of me wearing black suits.“Thank you,” I muttered.“Please follow us,” one of them said.I stole a quick glance behind me at the masked guards who had brought me here. Even now, they still hadn't said a word. They

AmberI smiled politely as Marcus shook hands with our last client of the day as the man finally stepped out of the private dining room.As soon as the door closed, I instantly dropped the fake smile, slumped back into the chair, and let out a long, weary sigh I had been holding in for hours.Marcus chuckled.“Are you alright?”I didn’t even have the strength to pretend and simply shook my head.It had been meeting after meeting. Negotiations. Calls. Dinners. Strategic alliances. Trying to win support, charm investors, reassure hesitant partners… and still—nothing. Not a whisper, not a rumor, not even the faintest hint about the Eurasian project.“I don’t even know anymore,” I muttered, rubbing a hand across my forehead. “Some days it feels like we’re making progress. Like things are moving. And then the next minute… it’s like we’re right back where we started. I don’t understand what’s going on.”Marcus didn’t respond immediately. He exhaled slowly and said, “You need to exercise a l

ColeXavier and I stepped out of the car and headed straight to Grandpa's house.“Wait for me in the living room,” I said to Xavier as I took off my coat.He nodded and sat down while I headed straight for Grandpa’s study to speak with him.The moment I pushed the study door open, Grandpa looked up instantly and closed the thick book in his hands. He removed his reading glasses, placed them carefully on the desk, and gave me a small smile.“Cole.”“Grandpa,” I greeted, bowing my head slightly. He studied me for a moment. “And how are Skylar and my great-grandchild doing?”“They are doing quite well.”Grandpa was quiet for a moment, his eyes drifting away as if he was thinking about something heavy. Then he finally asked,“Did you deliver my letter to Ethan?”I nodded. “I told Dan to give it to him. He must have received it by now.”I didn't know what Grandpa wrote in the letter, but I made sure to add my own… message to it.Grandpa exhaled slowly, rubbing a hand over his face.“I just

EthanThe Buckman family must be the ones responsible for the death of my mother! They must be the ones that killed her! They are the…The thought stopped halfway in my mind. It was like something inside me refused to continue the sentence. I wanted to shout, to curse, to scream their names: Cole, Rufus, Grandpa. I wanted to feel anger burning in my chest—something that matched the pain tearing me apart inside. But instead…All I felt was guilt.Nothing but guilt… and regret. My chest felt tight. My throat felt clogged. Everything in me was heavy. I curled into myself on the cold floor, holding the picture of my mother against my chest, and all I could think was…I should have been there.I should have protected her.I should have been a better son.I should have listened, loved her, helped her, done something—anything—other than play around like a fool and wait for her to fix my life for me.The pain in me wasn’t anger or hatred or fury… it was regret. What was even the point of livi
