LOGINWhen I asked Ann about a place where I could get a cheap jacket, she directed me about a block away to a used clothing shop.
The outside looked like all the other surrounding shop fronts, the inside wasn't unique either: plain white walls, racks of clothes, hooks for hats and bags, a couple sets of shelves for shoes that had seen better days, and a small wooden counter on the left with a cashier behind it. There were a few customers wandering around the shop, not really looking like they were trying to find anything specific. I searched the signs on the racks until I found the jackets. I ended up deciding on a thinner jacket. It was black and white plaid with a gray hood. It was a couple sizes too big but at least it would accommodate my baby bump when I got home. The lady at the counter seemed young like me, early twenties, her smile looked a little fake. I declined the bag and receipt, I wouldn't need them, I was just going to wear it out the door. Jane, as her name tag was labeled, offered to cut the tag off for me. I hadn't even noticed it, maybe her smile wasn't so fake. I thanked her and waved as I left the shop. Kya and a few pack members told me that bars were probably the best bet to find someone to mate with in the city if I wanted to go with as little emotional connection as possible. I wasn't sure if I could do that or if that was really the place for me but either way it was too early in the day for bars. Alcohol burned off too quickly in shifters and I wasn't one dancing either. I also didn't have a ton of money to waste so I decided on a more comfortable environment that would be free. I stopped in front of an open double gate with "Maple Park" etched in the plate at the top of the gate. Finding a good spot under a tree, to keep the sun out of my eyes. I took a seat in the cool grass and pulled out a couple of granola bars I'd put in my pocket along with the bottle of water Ann gave me after I spilled my first coffee on the man's boots, "Just in case you lose your coffee again", Ann had insisted. My cheeks heat just thinking about how embarrassing that was. I wish I was more confident and sweet like Kya, but I was just awkward and not great with showing my emotions to others, which made me come off as a life to some others in the pack. Only Riley and Kya were close enough to see the real me. Riley was like family, we'd met when I was 6. When we got our wolves we were allowed more freedom in wandering the pack lands because we had our wolves to keep us safe and take over if need be. I was walking through some neighborhood on the other side of the pack when I heard laughing. I followed it to a tan house with a short white fence in the front yard. In there I saw a little girl, close to my age, with black braided pigtails, rubbing around after a rabbit in the yard. I remember staring. It was the strangest thing to me, it didn't seem to actually be scared of her. They looked to just be playing. Maybe it was just the shifter in me, but rabbits seemed like food. I had a lot of questions: "Where did you get it? How long have you had it? Why isn't it scared of you? Does it have a name? What's your name?" She had it for about a month ago that point and it was only weary of her for a couple days. She seemed to have an affinity for animals. She'd named the, dirt brown, rabbit Polly. The girl's name was Riley. Riley told me she wanted to catch more rabbits until she had a whole farm of them, then she wanted to see them to the pack as pets. She looked so innocent and carefree that I didn't have the heart to tell her that most people would only see them as easy prey to feed their families. Right then I decided Riley would be my best friend and I'd talk her into keeping the rabbits for herself. Coming out of my memories I noticed some guys playing basketball on a concrete court on the edge of the park. Curiousity got the better of mesk I hopped up and wandered over towards the court. Riley and I used to play in school. They were much smaller teams due to shifters not needing a break like humans do during their games. I was a little better than Riley playing on a team, she just didn't get as rough as the rest of us. The school only introduced sports to get some energy and aggression out so we were less likely to "wolf-out". Most shifters were good shots because of our superior eyesight. "I've never seen anyone miss so many baskets", I thought as I approached the fence around the court. A guy in a red cut-off headed down the court with the ball after the other team missed their shot. Suddenly a girl with cornrows down her head, wearing all black, popped around Red's side and snatched the ball right out of his hands. I smirked at how fast she was as she dodged through most of his team before she finally had to pass, or risk the ball being stolen. The man she passed to, took a shot. He missed spectacularly. I had to cover my mouth to hold back the snort of laughter that tried to escape my lips. The ball was taken back down the court but my eyes were drawn back to the guy who'd missed the shot. He looked right at me. When our eyes locked, I once again was mesmerized be those big brown eyes with green flecks and the one green streak at the bottom. As the heat rushed to my face, I turned and quickly walked to the east side of the park to a trail I had noticed headed straight into the woods. A perfect place to disappear. I rushed through the trees, ditching the path. I walked until I was a couple yards from the trail, checking all my senses for any signs of humans. When I didn't find any I disrobed, put my clothes in my back pack and shifted, taking my pack in my teeth and tan back to camp. That was enough embarrassment for one day.Mika and I took our coffees to the park and sat on the bleachers to talk while we waited on his friends. "Do you want to play with us today?" Mika asked. He was a really good guy: considerate, gentle, generous, sweet. I kissed his cheek so I could whisper in his ear, "I'm sorry. I don't think it's a good idea with my above average speed and strength, if I got competitive I could hurt someone or expose my wolf." "Oh. Right. Well maybe just me and you sometime. Like when we usually practice?" He looked embarrassed that he hadn't thought it through. "Yeah of course. I'd love to." That got his smile back. Mika looked like he wanted to kiss me but his sister and their friends hollered at him and he got up, giving me an apologetic smile, and jogged off in their direction. I was so busy watching how the men interacted like family, like pack, that I didn't see Michelle heading my way. She sat down next to me. Cornrows on full display, black shirt with cut off sleeves and the sides s
When I woke up in a bed instead of the woods, I thought for a second I was home. The ache between my legs and his smell overwhelming the room told me otherwise. But the smell of sausage and bacon is what had me sitting up. I confirmed Mika wasn't in bed with me, which was a little disappointing, the food would make up for that though. I slipped my clothes on and headed to the door, following the smell, since I hadn't seen the layout on my way in here last night. It was a decent sized house from what I'd seen from the outside but I'd only been on the first floor. Mika's room was right next to the bathroom, down the hall from the kitchen. I guess I didn't need to follow the smell after all. The living room was off to the right if you came in the front door, the stairs off to the left, all of which was visible from the hall. I turned the other way, heading to the kitchen. Mika had his back to me but he must have heard me come in because upon entering I got a cheerful, "Hey!" "Hey
Well thankfully he did let me shower first. It was nice to have a hot shower in a home again and I was definitely alone, unlike in the gym showers. I soaked up the heat letting myself put off the inevitable a little longer. When the hot water was all gone it was time to get out and get this over with. Mika was sitting in the kitchen when I found him. He was at a little square table in the corner of the room, two sides of the table were bench seats, lining the walls and meeting in the room's corner. The other two sides just had regular chairs. It wasn't lost on me that he was in a bench seat, back to the wall. I didn't blame him, if that made him feel safer then so be it. I probably would do the same if I was in a room with a predator higher on the food chain than me. I sat in the chair across the table from him, just to give him that little bit of extra space, which my body was really against. I was afraid my heat was about to get intense, making me want to mate to the closest m
It wasn't dark when we got to the spot where he normally releases the animals, which was pretty close to my camp, I'd have to fix that later. It was right before sunset, when there was less traffic on the roads and the night time sounds started. How peaceful it was, it was unreal this close to the city. Now was definitely the right time to let her go. I closed my eyes to breath it all in. When I opened them again I noticed Mika staring at me but he quickly turned his head realizing he'd been caught. Awkwardly clearing his throat, "You want to help me get the crate off the truck?" "Yeah sure." I replied, blushing. I had to pretend like the wolf and her crate were heavy but really I didn't break a sweat. Mika had me get back by the truck bed while he pulled the release cord in the crate. So I guess he did take the danger somewhat seriously but he really should have a weapon of some sort to protect himself. The door flew open and she was more than ready to dart out and into the
Mika definitely knew where he was going. He was walking with purpose through the woods, away from the park. All I could do was wonder where he was going, I wasn't about to ask and give away that I'd followed him out here like some kind of stocker. Mika started to slow down a bit, so I did too. I could hear a lot of different animals. The smells were easy to distinguish: raccoon, owl, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, and... wolf. Wolves and shifters got along like family, though they bowed to our dominance, mostly due to our small car sized bodies. What was it doing this close to town? And alone? I worried that it might be hurt or have gotten trapped. Maybe trapped by someone for some unforeseen purpose. Mika didn't seem like the villain to my story... I came to a stop as I started to see large fenced in areas. What was this place? Looking around I realized I don't see Mika. I could have a look around first, right? I felt Keska agreeing with my plan, but she urges me to stay near the
I learned that the man's name is Mika and that girl's name is Michelle, his twin sister. She played basketball in college and he clearly did not. "You need to change your stance and jump. Your feet need to be a little wider apart. Your shooting hand should go above your head and a lot higher than your non-shooting hand. When you throw it to the hoop you need to snap your wrist, lining it up with the hoop and aiming for one of the top corners to bounce it in or for the ball to start to defend before it reaches the back board for a straight shot. If it hits the back right above the hoop it is going to bounce off like it has been doing." I was trying to explain but it sounded more like I was barking orders. "That's a lot of information all at once l." He replied. I could see the stress behind his eyes. "Okay let's take it step by step. I'll demonstrate and then fix your stance as you try it." So we started practicing. Slowly he started to get the stance down. The aim, not so
