Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Mark entered the embassy and identified himself with embassy staff. He asked to speak to a security official, or the military attaché himself, saying it was a matter of urgency.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Forney,” the receptionist told him at the entrance, “but that’s not protocol. You must first request an appointment with the staff you wish to contact, if available.”

Mark was about to say something to her when four soldiers rushed out of the door behind them and headed for the exit. Behind them, a tall white man with a thick mustache in a military field suit stood in the middle of the room and, arms akimbo proceeded to speak:
