(Vera POV)
"It has to be a joke, right? How can the Moon Goddess pair us with something like... her... We didn't deserve a cow in the name of a mate, for f*ck sake," Lucien threw his hands in the air while Rian was looking at me like he was disgusted with this bond. All the hope and happiness that I had just felt a few moments ago vanished into the air.
I hadn't expected much from my fate, but the moment I found the scent of my mate, I got excited. I just followed it and came face to face with my bullies. The three infamous Princes of our academy.
They spent their lives making my life hell because of my curvy body, but this bond made me hope for a bit of good because it isn't the first time the Moon Goddess has paired two enemies together. I have seen many such couples, and now all of them are like ideal couples because our Matebond is sacred and holy in nature. Instead of one, the Moon Goddess paired me with all three Alphas, and they were my secret crush too, but seeing the look on their faces made me want to crawl inside a deep hole to avoid their avaricious look.
"Fine! What is done is done. We can't do anything about it, right?" Kael sighed, and I looked at his face with confusion.
"What do you mean, Kael? Are you ready to accept someone like... her?" Rian asked, and I tried very hard not to scream at them in anger. They were alphas, and I was just an omega, so I couldn't offend any of them... yet.
"What the hell! No!!! I mean, just reject her and move on. No need to be so dramatic about all this." His words cut me deep.
"You are right! But if you dare to tell anyone about this, then we will make your life a living hell, you Damn cow," Lucien warned me with a pointed finger, and I nodded my head in agreement. They rejected me one by one, and I felt like something broke inside me. The last hope of something good happening in my life broke inside me. When they left, I fell on the floor and fainted.
My soul left my body when I heard the familiar voices, but this time someone was playing it all through a speaker.
“Who the f*ck is doing that?” I thought and ran downstairs. Luna Candice’s sister and her daughter were gathered in the hall with a few other rich kids of the pack. I gulped hard when I looked at them, then at the speakers.
“Look who is here? The star of tonight’s show.” Everyone started hooting and throwing water balloons at me while calling me names. Rian, Lucien, and Kael were also standing in the corner with a look of disinterest etched on their faces.
“So, the fat b*tch thought she would be the Luna of three-star famous alphas at once, right?” One girl said and everyone laughed. Tears welled up in my eyes, but they kept throwing things at me while calling me names until they got bored.

(Present Time)
“Vera! Come here,” Luna Candice called me, and I put the dirty dishes in the sink before quickly washing my hands. I quickly walked towards her.
“Yes, Luna!”
“Today is your 18th birthday, so I have a gift for you.” She handed me a box wrapped in sparkling red gift paper. A smile crept onto my lips.
“Thank you so much, Luna,” I said before looking at the pile of gifts prepared for all the members of the pack who will experience their first shift tonight.
“Call everyone so I can hand their gifts to them,” She ordered, and I nodded before leaving. I asked a guard to deliver Luna’s message to everyone before coming to my room. I quickly opened my box, and a light blue maxi dress was in it. It wasn’t something extravagant, but for an outcast like me, it was like a luxury item. I touched the fabric and giggled like a schoolgirl after feeling its softness.
“I will definitely wear it tonight after my shift to celebrate my 18th birthday.” I put it back in the box and hid it in my old side table.
I quickly finished all the chores of the pack house before entering in the common room’s bathroom to take a quick shower. Anyone can use this bathroom, so I made it quick, but I felt a strange happiness in my heart, like today everything would change when I met my wolf. A friend who will always stay with me no matter the situation.
I quickly wiped myself down and put on my turtleneck and baggy jeans before covering myself with a jacket. I know they will start making fun of my weight if they notice me in a turtleneck, so I quickly hid it with my jacket.
“What is a cow like you doing here?” Sebastian entered the common room with his latest fling, Zara, and sneered when he noticed me. I ignored his comment and left the common room. It was more like a waiting room for guests and a f*cking corner for some wolves like him. Sebastian knew he could get away with anything because his father was the beta of this pack, and he knew how to use this ticket in his favor every single time.
I quickly entered my room in the basement and combed my Silky black hair. My hair touches my bum, and at 5’6, it looks pretty long, but I like it this way.
I covered my heterochromic eyes with brown lenses and smiled after looking at my reflection in the mirror.
I was looking happy, and no matter how much they make fun of my curvy body, I like myself. I used to starve myself a lot after hearing students’ and fellows’ taunts, but now, I don’t want to change myself anymore. All the bullies can go and fuck themselves. The excitement of meeting overpowered every painful memory of my past, so I decided to be happy and carefree for today. I headed towards the ground where we would experience our first shift.
Everyone gathered in the ground hall of the Shadowvale pack, and all the elders were present just a few feet away to cheer the new wolves and to control them if someone lost control. I looked at the full moon, which was slowly turning red, and a smile crept onto my face when I noticed a different power surging in my body. I sat on the ground and let it consume my body. After a few minutes, my bones started snapping and rearranging, and I let out a loud scream, which soon turned into a howl. I looked at my paws, and my heart burst with joy.
“Oh, my God!!!” I heard someone gasp and looked at their face. Everyone was looking at my magnificent white wolf, and I was standing proudly in the hall.
“F*ck! She is really a jinx. We have to kill her.” My moment of pride ended in a few seconds, and only then did I notice the look of horror on their faces.
“Kill her or she will end this pack in no time,” Someone suggested from the crowd, and I shook my head before stepping back.
“Catch her and burn her,” Another one suggested. Everyone agreed, and my eyes widened in shock.
“Burn her, burn her, burn her,” All of them agreed, so I did one thing that came to my mind. I turned my head towards the forest and ran like hell. They came behind me, but I didn’t even know my mistake at that point.
“Hi, my name is Xela. I am your wolf,” I heard my wolf’s voice, and I gulped hard before heading towards the lake.
“Why are they reacting like this, Xela? Is something wrong with our wolf?” I voiced my fear, and she shook her head in no.
“Then what the hell are they doing?” I asked and looked at my reflection in the lake water. A magnificent white wolf was present in the reflection, and I almost gasped in surprise. My wolf also has heterchromic eyes like me. One silver and one golden, and a crescent was present on our forehead, right in the center.
“You are breathtaking, Xela,” I answered, and she purred in happiness.
“But that’s why they are targeting us. They know our hybrid status now.” She informed me in a whisper-like voice.
I didn’t tell anyone when I started feeling weird powers after turning sixteen because I knew from the start I was not a normal child like everyone else.
“What should we do now?” I asked when Xela let out a loud howl of pain. Someone stabbed us with a silver knife. Shadowvale’s soldiers caught us before we could think about any escape plan. They dragged us and threw us near the elders.
“Should we really burn her?” The alpha of my pack asked, and I looked at his stoic face with anger and disgust.
“I served this pack for so many years, and this is how you are going to pay me… By murdering me for nothing. I didn’t ask to be a hybrid.” I cried, and they exchanged looks with each other.
“She is right! She served this pack for so many years, and if we kill her or burn her, then all the omegas and soldiers will turn disloyal over time,” One of the elders said, and I gritted my teeth in anger. They were arguing about my life as if they were talking about the price of bananas at the market.
“Why don’t we send her to the Luna Survival Games this year? They have already sent an invitation, and we know how they eliminate the contestants, right?” Luna Candice added.
“Yes, yes! This is the easiest and most convenient way to get rid of this jinx.” All the elders agreed, and Alpha ordered the soldiers to lock me up in the guest room for two days, so they could prepare me for the Luna Survival Games. F*ck! My life is doomed for sure.
(Vera POV) Eventually, the others left. And I left with Sebastian and Silas. Silas closed the door and turned towards me. “What?” “You're shaking.” I looked at my hands. Damn… I hadn't noticed. “I'll survive.” Sebastian's expression softened. “That wasn't what he said.” Something inside me cracked. Just a little, but I didn’t let it show on my face. “I know.” Silas approached slowly and looked straight into my eyes like he could stare straight through my soul. “Can I?” I knew what he meant. I nodded. His arms wrapped around me. There wasn’t any heat or anything uncomfortable, just warmth and care. I rested my forehead against his chest. For several seconds, I allowed myself to stop being strong and soak his protective warmth. I stopped myself from planning, surviving, or doing anything. Sebastian came behind me. His hand settled lightly against my back. Three bodies. Two bonds. One exhausted woman and a deep soul connection. “I am scared,” I admitted. Neither ma
(Vera POV)“The Council has not authorized—”“The contestants entered these Games under Crown law.” Seraphine looked directly at me.“If Vera Nightshade wants her freedom, she will finish what she started.”There it was.. Another trap for me and an opportunity. “No!” Sebastian stepped forward, but I shook my head in no. “I am fine with this.” My words shocked him a bit. All the heads turned towards me like they didn’t expect me to do so. Sebastian stared at my face for a few seconds before mouthing a ‘No’. I know he was worried about me and my well-being, but the thing was my battle, and I had to fight it on my own. “Vera, she wants you inside that forest,” Silas said. Worry and concern were etched on his face, and it seemed like he wanted to tell me something more but stopped himself from doing os. “I know.”“Then perhaps don't voluntarily enter the place where the evil queen wants to harvest your supernatural organs.” He advised. Lucien nodded.“I hate agreeing with him, but th
(Vera POV)Lucien stepped away from Evelis. Then Sebastian. Silas. One by one. Not surrounding me. Surrounding Ophelia, or should I say, protecting her.Seraphine looked around. Her palace. Her guards. Her nobles. Her authority.Cracking in front of her slowly. Then Ophelia whispered something. So quietly I nearly missed it.“There were others.”I turned.“What?”She looked at me. Her face crumpled.“Tessa.”My pulse stopped. “She was there.” Everything inside me sharpened.“Alive?”Ophelia nodded. “When I escaped.”“When?”“Yesterday.”Tessa was alive. Lab Three. The information had been real.I stepped towards Ophelia. “How many others?” She closed her eyes. “Six.”“Where?”“I don't know.”Her breathing quickened. “They moved us.”“Where, Ophelia?”“I don't know!”She grabbed her head. “I don't remember!”“It's okay.”“No, it's not!” She suddenly looked towards the windows.“The Blood Moon.”My stomach dropped. “What about it?” Ophelia's eyes filled with terror.“They kept saying
(Vera POV)Ophelia's fingers tightened around mine.“I can't hear her.”“I know.”“Is she dead?” The question was so small. Elowen's eyes softened.“No.”Ophelia stopped breathing. “What?”“Your body is still showing signs of an active wolf bond.”Hope appeared so quickly it hurt to witness. “You mean she's there?”“I believe so.”“Then why can't I hear her?” Elowen looked at the scars.“Because someone repeatedly interrupted the neurological and magical pathways connecting you.”Ophelia stared at her. “Can you fix it?” That silence answered before Elowen did. Ophelia's hope disappeared.“I don't know.”A tear slipped down her cheek. Elowen continued carefully. “You may recover completely.”“May?”“Or partially.”Another pause. .“And there's a possibility some effects will remain permanent.”Ophelia turned her face away. No sobbing. Nothing. Just silence.I hated it. I wanted her to scream. Break something or atleast Curse.Anything except lie there absorbing the possibility that str
(Vera POV)“Mostly.”Mostly? Xela became alert. Rafael led me twenty metres into the forest. Then stopped. Something lay behind a fallen tree.A woman, barefoot and devastated. Almost covered in dirt, her nightdress was torn. But the dress looked painfully familiar. Bruises covered her legs. Both arms were marked with punctures. Some old and some fresh. A strange silver scar circled her throat. Her hair had been cut unevenly near her scalp. I couldn't see her face. Then she moved barely but a whimper escaped her lips. I rushed forward. “Hey.”She recoiled violently.“No!”I froze.“I'm not touching you.” She curled into herself.“Please.” Her voice was destroyed. Hoarse and terrified. “Don't take me back.” My blood turned cold. I crouched several feet away.“You're safe.”“No needles.” My heart stopped. Rafael stared at me.“What is she talking about?”I didn't answer. The woman slowly lifted her head. Moonlight touched her face. My breath disappeared.No.Impossible.“Ophelia?”He
(Vera POV)The gathering wasn't technically a ball. Which meant there were only sixty nobles, live musicians, expensive food and enough champagne to bankrupt a small pack.Royal definitions were strange. I entered with Nyra. Conversations shifted. I felt the attention. Once, that would've made me shrink. Tonight I simply kept walking. Then Sebastian saw me. He stopped speaking mid-sentence.Xela purred. “Oh, that's satisfying.” Silas followed Sebastian's gaze. His glass paused halfway towards his mouth. He lowered it slowly… very slowly. My cheeks warmed. The bonds didn't help. I could feel their emotions, surprise, attraction and something deeper. All of it brushed against me.Silas recovered first. He walked towards me. Sebastian followed.“You look beautiful,” Sebastian said. His simple words did things to my heart. My stupid heart still stumbled.“Thank you.” Silas looked me over.“You look dangerous.”“Better.”“I thought you'd prefer that.”Nyra abruptly disappeared like she
(Vera POV)I tried to move, but it seemed like I had turned into a statue, with all the memories that came rushing back into my mind. “Roll and roll, bat and ball’If we kick Vera’s head, it will roll on the floor like a ball.”All the kids started singing, and my eyes welled up with tears. I loo
(Vera POV)“Vera Nightsahde! You got selected for the Luna Survival Games for this year, and you will represent our Shadow Vale Pack. It is really an honour for our pack to take part in the royal games,” Luna Candice announced proudly, and I sneered with disdain. Her lips twitched for a second,
(Vera POV)“What the hell! Why does this palace have so many rooms?” I mumbled under my breath while trying to find the hall where our welcome dinner was arranged. I wasted almost 20 minutes wandering through the halls and rooms in search of that perfect hall. F*ck! I wanted to save my face by ar
