Chapter 11

Author: Bagel
Santino's POV

Santino stood before the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, his long fingers drumming restlessly on the mahogany desk.

As night fell, his agitation grew.

Getting rid of Jessy was just the first step. Now, he had to get back what was truly his.

His top aide entered and handed him a top-secret file.

"Don, we've found the Donna. She's in Lumina, on the West Coast. She opened an art gallery."

He opened the file. The first thing he saw was a telephoto shot.

Every question was a slap to his face, shattering his pride. The children were crying so hard they could barely breathe, their small hands clawing desperately at my clothes, trying to win back the mother they had pushed away."We were really wrong, Mama," Sofia sobbed, her body wracked with convulsions from crying so hard. "We'll only listen to you from now on... please don't leave us."My vision blurred, but I knew these were tears for the meek person I used to be, not a sign of my heart softening.Julian silently walked to my side and handed me a clean tissue, the light touch of his fingertips bringing a steadying warmth. This simple gesture completely ignited Santino's rage."Who the hell are you?" he demanded, his eyes promising to tear Julian apart on the spot. "What right do you have to interfere in the Genovese family's affairs?"Julian pushed up the glasses on his nose and, to my surprise, didn't back down in the face of that terrifying pressure. His voice was gentle but held a

The wind chime on the gallery door chimed crisply.I looked up, and the smile on my lips instantly froze. That scent in the air, a mix of expensive cigars and cold leather. I would know it anywhere."Sofia?" My voice trembled slightly. My gaze traveled past the child and landed on Santino. There was no joy of reunion in my heart, only a churning resistance and a familiar chill. I even took a step back instinctively."What... what are you doing here? How did you find me?"Chloe looked curiously at the strangers who had burst in, instinctively hiding behind me.The sensitive child had picked up on the tension immediately.Julian, who had been organizing art books, straightened up and moved to stand between us, a subtle but firm barrier."Mama!" Leo rushed in right after his sister, his arms wrapping tightly around my legs."We missed you so much! Mama, did you leave us for them?"He looked up, his eyes so much like his father's, and glared at Chloe with a hostility that made her clutch m

Now, he had to get back what was truly his.His top aide entered and handed him a top-secret file."Don, we've found the Donna. She's in Lumina, on the West Coast. She opened an art gallery."He opened the file. The first thing he saw was a telephoto shot.Inside the sun-drenched gallery, Alessia was kneeling on the floor. Her expression was one of absolute tenderness as she patiently taught a little girl to paint with her fingers. And beside her stood a tall, well-built man in gold-rimmed glasses, watching her with an expression of profound affection and admiration. The three of them looked like a goddamn perfect family. The warm, peaceful scene was like a rusty knife stabbing into his pride.Veins bulged on the back of the hand gripping the photograph. He nearly crushed th

  • The Powerless Donna’s Second Life   Chapter 10

Santino's POVFrom that night on, with Jessy's tacit approval, the staff at the estate also began to treat the children with disdain. They began to ignore the children. Not only were their elite tutoring sessions canceled, but eventually, even their specially prepared nutritional meals were gone. They could only eat whatever cold leftovers were in the kitchen after Jessy had finished her meals. The long-term malnutrition and chaotic schedule left the two once-radiant heirs looking sallow and thin.In his high-rise office overlooking the city, Santino was dealing with a difficult turf war.His private phone on the desk vibrated. It was the family's private physician."Don, Master Leo has a high fever. We can't delay treatment any longer. If it develops into pneumonia, the consequences could be severe."Santino's brow furrowed sharply. "Why am I only hearing about this now?""Miss Jessy said not to make a fuss, that we shouldn't disturb you.""What did you say?" Santino's face darkened,

Santino's POVFrom that day on, Santino began to frequently use "managing family business" as an excuse. He set foot in the Genovese estate less and less often. The violence in his bones was boiling over, and only the ceaseless gang wars and power struggles offered any sort of numbness. He was never home. Jessy couldn't have been happier. She squandered her time at high-end salons on Rodeo Drive and at socialite afternoon teas. She had no idea how to be the matriarch of a vast mafia family.Leo and Sofia no longer had personal bodyguards to escort them to and from their elite private school. To win them over, Jessy had let them skip school, taking them drag racing or to wild parties on private yachts.Having had a taste of that life, the children followed her lead, eventually skipping school altogether to hang out on the streets.Their behavior grew rebellious and uncontrollable.Jessy noticed, but she didn't care."Miss Jessy, the young master and young miss have been skipping their c

Santino's POVA month after Alessia disappeared, Santino finally admitted something was wrong. At first, he'd assumed she was just throwing a tantrum. The wife of a Mafia Don. How could she give up that kind of power? But then he discovered it was impossible to contact her. Not even a trace of her could be found. He had sent out the Genovese family's top trackers, but they all returned empty-handed.He even had his people question the socialite wives Alessia used to associate with. No one had heard from her.He irritably stubbed out his cigar, turned to his consigliere, and pulled up the file for the cliffside estate. The documents showed that the deed to the priceless property remained unsigned by her.Alessia had left with nothing but a few old clothes. She had not taken a single penny that belonged to him."Such backbone," he sneered. His pride refused to let him admit the hollow, stinging pain spreading through his chest. She was just trying to make him and the children beg her to
