My hands were cold and my heart was pounding. I felt so small in front of him.

This man towered over all of us and his dominant pheromones made me want to kneel in front of him. Was he forcing us to submit or was it just a normal effect powerful alphas had on people.

His eyes were fierce. So fierce that I couldn't even look at it for more than a few seconds.

I was trying hard to understand what he was thinking but I couldn't make out anything from his stoic face.

"All seven of them?" He spoke and I swear I felt a chill run down my spine from hearing his deep raspy voice.

"Yes," The alpha of the shadow pack replied. "They're harmless. If there's any problem, I'll take care of it,"

The predator shook his head as he turned around. "If there's any problem, you won't have to worry Keiran. I will kill them before you hear about it," He scoffed, causing a few of us to flinch.

"Cassian, don't talk like that…"  A middle aged lady interrupted in a stern voice. "That's no way to welcome new pack members,"

"We still haven't decided on accepting them yet, mom," He replied.

"Alpha Cassian," The luna of the shadow pack stepped in. "I guarantee you that they will cause no problems,"

"I believe you and Keiran… but I still cannot accept new people into the pack without knowing the details about them. It's our pack's rule,"

"You can check everything about them. I'll leave them here until you make a decision. You can inform me if you don't want to accept any of them. Does that sound good to you?" Keiran, alpha of the shadow pack, asked Alpha Cassian.

He thought for a moment before nodding.

Alpha Keiran smiled in reply.

We only watched everything in silence. None of us had the courage to speak out about anything.

What could we possibly say?

The room was full of powerful people. Their pheromones felt too heavy for me. I was nervous and nauseous. I think Luna Evelyn must have seen the twisted look on my face because she was immediately beside me, one of her hands pressed on my shoulder in a comforting squeeze.

"Don't worry, you'll be safe," She whispered with a smile.

I was the only omega in the group. I never let my second gender be seen as a weakness. My father never taught me to be weak.

But this was new for me. I've never met so many alphas and betas at one place like this and on top of that my body wasn't fully recovered from the traumatic event I went through a few days back.

Everything felt so overwhelming to me.

"The food is ready. Let's all have lunch," I heard someone say. It was the middle aged woman from before, the mother of Alpha Cassian. She looked fierce but her smile was bright and welcoming.

Luna Evelyn slightly pushed on my shoulder to make me go wherever everyone else was going. I gripped my mother's hand tight. She only walked slowly, her body easily got exhausted.

She still didn't talk too much. It pains me to see her like that. She was such a lively lady. She was stubborn and energetic.

I still remember how she made my father listen to everything she said. A few months ago everything was so perfect. Even though we weren't living in the best conditions, it was the best life for me.

But I had to watch it all fall apart.

I sighed as I pushed around the food on my plate. We were sitting around a big dining table and there were all kinds of delicious looking dishes spread out on top of it.

It was the first time I'd ever seen so much food. They smelled mouth watering but I didn't have any appetite.

I only took two bites from my plate before turning towards my mother. I cut the meat on her plate into tiny pieces.

"Please eat, mom," I whispered in her ear pleadingly. I have to take care of her health. I can't let her leave me too.

She looked at me for a moment before letting out a heavy sigh.

I was relieved when she finally started to eat. I looked around the table just to observe everyone.

Alpha Keiran and Alpha Cassian both seemed like they were having a serious conversation while Luna Evelyn and Alpha Cassian's mother were smiling and giggling.

I looked at the beta couple of shadow pack. They were looking at each other like a newly married couple but I remember hearing that they were married long ago.

The beta was feeding his mate every good thing on his plate. It seemed like he couldn't take his eyes off of the omega. The smaller boy was blushing, his pale cheeks resembling a ripe peach.

I felt jealousy creep into my mind. The fact that I'll probably never get to experience something like that made my heart hurt.

I averted my eyes to stare at the other people. The rogues were all silent, only staring at their plates and not daring to look up.

Everyone looked nervous while absentmindedly pushing the food around on their plate.

I looked back at my mother to make sure she had finished all the food on her plate. She didn't eat much but I was glad she managed to take in half of it.

Lunch finished in about half an hour. I was relieved when everyone stood up and went to the living room again.

Somebody came to show us our rooms for resting. It seemed like everyone from the shadow pack decided to stay here for a day.

I was glad they decided to do that because having Luna Evelyn with us felt so comforting. I still needed some time to adjust to this new place.

Alpha Cassian spoke to us once again before we were sent to our rooms. "We have arranged rooms for you. You are not allowed to leave the packhouse under any circumstances. If we find any one of you trying to sneak out, you will be punished. If you need anything just come to the living area and ask for help. Understood?" He said sternly.

We all nodded in reply, heads bowed down because we didn't want to look in his eyes.

I think he didn't like that he didn't get a verbal reply because we all flinched when he repeated it. "Understood?" His voice was more demanding this time.

"Y-Yes," We all replied in unison.

"Good. Now go," He dismissed us with a wave of his hand before turning back to Alpha Keiran.

Alpha Keiran shook his head and sighed before looking at his mate who gave him a tight lipped smile.

I didn't linger around there any longer and followed the lady who was assigned to show us our rooms.

All the time I tried to relax in the room, my mind kept asking me one question again and again.

Did I really make a good choice by coming here?

I don’t understand what is meant by “second gender”? She is an Omega, but I thought that had more to do with strength and/or ability to breed than anything else… Of course each author subscribes different traits to different werewolves.

Ruth didn’t remember how she made it back to the pack house. She spent a lot of time wandering the pack garden before eventually making her way back inside. Everything felt blurred and distant, as if she were walking through something thick and suffocating. Her chest still ached, the pain sitting heavy inside her and refusing to ease. By the time she stood in front of Ryder’s door, her hands were trembling. She knocked once. Then twice. For a moment, there was no response. Ruth was about to knock again when the door opened. Ryder stood there with narrowed eyes, ready to hiss at her. But the moment his eyes landed on her, his expression changed completely. “Ruth?” His brows furrowed instantly. “What happened?” She tried to speak but her voice broke before any words could form. The tears she thought she had already cried came rushing back, spilling down her cheeks uncontrollably. Ryder didn’t hesitate. He stepped aside immediately. “Come in.” The moment she crossed the

Her eyes widened when she saw the man standing near the doorway. He had light blonde hair that fell softly over his forehead, delicate features and a slender, almost feminine build. Ruth recognized him after a moment. She had seen him once before when the Shadow Pack came to Darkwood with Evelyn. “Hello?” the man said, raising his brows when she didn’t respond. Ruth took a steady breath as the realization settled in her mind. A male omega… the one mated to the Beta of the Shadow Pack. She remembered hearing her pack mates whisper about him back when he had visited. “Are you from Darkwood?” he asked gently as he stepped further into the room. His eyes flicked toward the bed and the things scattered across it. “Do you need any help?” Then he noticed the jacket in her hands. “Umm… please don’t touch these things,” the man added with a soft sigh. “They’re important to me.” “Who do they belong to?” Ruth blurted out before she could stop herself. The man blinked, clearly cau

“I’m glad you’re finally here!” Luna Evelyn welcomed her guests with a warm, genuine smile. Ivy returned it with equal enthusiasm. “The Shadow Pack is our last stop. I’ve been waiting for this,” she said before pulling Evelyn into a tight hug. “Ruth! I’m so glad you’re here too!” Evelyn added as she stepped forward to hug the omega. Ruth smiled and returned the hug, but the excitement Evelyn expected wasn’t there. Her arms were gentle and almost distracted. Evelyn pulled back and frowned slightly. “Are you alright, dear? Did the journey tire you?” “I’m fine,” Ruth said quickly. “Just a headache.” The excuse came out a little rushed but she didn’t elaborate. “Sweetheart, let’s show them to their rooms. Lunch is ready,” Alpha Keiran said as he approached his mate. “The pups might be hungry.” He turned to look back at his friend. Cassian followed close behind him with Rennie in his hands. The pup looked around curiously, eyes bright despite the long travel. A few steps b

Ivy felt suffocated in Alpha Hunter’s office. It reminded her of the time Cassian interrogated her. The air in the room felt thick with tension. Alpha Hunter leaned back in his chair, fingers drumming lightly against the armrest as his eyes flicked between Cassian and Ivy. “Alpha Cassian,” he began, voice steady but cold. “we might be a small pack compared to yours but we do have people capable of investigating our guests. I knew from the moment you approached us for an alliance that something in our pack interested you. And I haven’t forgotten the time your beta came here asking questions in the past. We can connect the dots, you know?” Cassian’s jaw tightened. Ivy stood close beside him, her fingers curling into her palms. She hated to be seen like someone who had committed a crime. The whole thing felt unfair. What was she being scrutinised for? She looked up at her mate and they exchanged a glance before Cassian inhaled slowly. “The alliance wasn’t a drama,” he said even

“This is honestly a surprise. It’s been so long since we did business together, Alpha Cassian. I’m glad we’re strengthening our alliance.” Alpha Hunter said, stepping out of his office. Cassian and Ryder followed closely while Ivy trailed behind. Her mind was occupied by the things in the letter. If Hunter was to know of her identity, how would he react? “And it was nice to meet you, Luna Ivy. You’re so young but your insights are admirable.” The alpha said, turning back to look at the omega. Ivy forced a smile and cleared her throat before asking the question she’s been carrying on the tip of her tongue. “You have such a beautiful pack, Alpha Hunter.” She started, earning a proud grin from the man. “If it’s okay, can we walk around to see the place?” “Of course! Beta Max can guide you.” The man turned to his Beta who immediately stepped forward, ready to take on the task. “Then I’ll leave you all in his care. Please enjoy your stay, Alpha Cassian. I’ll meet you in a few hou

Third Person POV “I don’t think this is a good idea.” Ivy paced back and forth while her mate loaded their luggage into the back of the car. “Ivy, stop doing that,” Cassian said with a sigh. “I’m serious. This is not necessary and the past is in the past.” She muttered as she bit her nails. “I really don’t want to take my pups there.” Cassian looked at her for a moment before walking towards her. He pulled her into a tight hug and buried his face in the crook of her neck, breathing in her scent. “Calm down. You’re going there as the Luna of Darkwood, not as the child of banished members. As long as I’m with you, no one will dare raise their tongue against you. We’re going there for business. Redglow is not our last stop. We’ll soon have to visit the Shadow Pack too.” “Why do you need me—” “I always need you, Ivy,” Cassian cut her off. “First of all, you’re brilliant with negotiations and coming up with practical solutions. You’ve proved yourself countless times when the a
