Chapter 9

작가: Washing Wheat
“Mr. Parker, actually, Ms. Clark violated company policy—”

“Shut up!”

Noah shot her a fierce glare.

He knew that bringing up company policy now would only make things worse.

Turning back to me, his tone almost pleading, he said, “Ava, I’m begging you. Please explain things to Mr. Parker. It’s just an internal conflict. We can settle it privately…”

I looked at him, so humbled now, and felt nothing.

“Mr. Anderson, now you’re worried about losing reputation? When you issued that notice criticizing me, why weren’t you worried then? When you had Winnie throw my things on the ground to be trampled, why weren’t you afraid?”

I lifted the box.

“Mr. Parker, I’m sorry you had to witness this. From today on, I have nothing to do with this company. I’m taking this car back, too.”

I took out my phone and opened the remote control in front of everyone.

Then I said softly, “Unlock.”

The next second, the car lights flashed twice, followed by two crisp beeps.

The lock was released.

“John, step out of the car,” I said.

John had been frozen in fear. Only after hearing me did he scramble out.

“Mr. Parker, if you don’t mind, I can drive you to your next appointment. As for this company…”

I glanced at Noah, slumped on the ground, and Winnie, crying uncontrollably.

“I think they’d be better off taking a taxi to their meetings.”

Damien couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

“Good! Ms. Clark, I like your style! As it happens, I have a new project that needs a reliable partner. Shall we talk on the way?”

Noah completely panicked.

He knew very well that if Mr. Parker walked away, the company would lose its biggest source of funding.

“Mr. Parker! Please don’t go! We haven’t finished discussing our cooperation!”

He rushed forward, trying to grab Damien.

The bodyguards immediately stepped in to block him.

“Mr. Anderson,” Damien said coldly. “Before doing business, learn how to be a decent person. Without integrity, business won’t last.”

With that, he walked toward the back seat of my car.

I opened the door.

“Mr. Parker, please.”

Then I got into the driver’s seat.

The engine roared to life with a low hum.

Through the rearview mirror, I saw Noah collapsed on the ground, his face ashen. Winnie covered her face, crying uncontrollably.

The colleagues who had once mocked me all stood frozen at the entrance, their expressions panicked.

The car slowly drove out of the park, leaving all the chaos and humiliation behind.

“Ms. Clark, that was beautifully done,” Damien said with a smile from the back seat.

“You’re too kind,” I replied calmly.

“But,” he continued, “are you really just going to leave like this? That’s letting them off too easily.”

I glanced at the clock in the car.

The agent should have arrived at the building by now.

My phone vibrated.

It was a message from the agent. [Ava, we’ve arrived downstairs. Mr. Anderson looks in bad shape, and the front desk won’t let us in.]

I replied.

[Call the police directly and report illegal occupation of my property. Give them copies of the lease and property documents.]

The response came quickly.

[Understood. We’ll handle it immediately.]

I put down my phone, a cold smile slowly forming on my lips.

The real show was just beginning.

  • The Price of Greed   Chapter 14

It was Noah.Sensing someone was watching, he spun around. Our eyes met. In the murky, vacant gaze, a flicker of recognition appeared, followed by shame, then pure terror. He snatched a half-dry piece of bread from the trash, didn’t even brush off the filth on himself, and bolted. One shoe flew off. He didn’t look back, stumbling, disappearing into the night.I didn’t chase or call out. I stood quietly, watching him vanish. My daughter tugged my sleeve, looking up curiously. “Mom, what’s wrong with that man? Why did he run?”I kneeled, stroked her hair gently, voice soft as I said, “He’s lost, sweetheart. Can’t find his way home.”“Will he ever get home?”“Probably not.”I said it without a flicker of emotion. After his company collapsed, Noah’s wife left him with their child, taking the last of his money. He was burdened by massive debt and blacklisted. Barred from trains and planes, he was unable to find work. They said he’d tried to end his life, failed, and became homele

The company was thriving, with business growing stronger every month. The white car remained mine, though I no longer drove it myself and had hired a professional driver.Sometimes, I think about my time at Noah’s company, about how I ate nothing but expiring bread to save money for company equipment.Or the night I drank with clients until my stomach bled, then went to the hospital alone in the dead of night. Those days were the most passionate of my youth, and also the most foolish. I foolishly gave, foolishly trusted, and ended up with nothing but scars. One day, I passed a coffee shop in the basement level of a mall and saw a familiar figure. It was Winnie. She wore the shop’s uniform, her mask and cap hiding most of her face. Her head was lowered, mechanically packing drinks.“Welcome. Here’s your latte.”Her voice was hoarse, stripped of the crisp arrogance she once wielded in the conference room. Now, only numb exhaustion remained.I watched silently from a distance, no

The so-called “misappropriation” was actually the company seizing personal assets.]Property proof was next. The office building’s title deed clearly bore my name. Then, critical recordings. The meeting room dialogue played crisply. “This car will now be a company resource…”“I’ll keep the key myself. “Gave everything?”I couldn’t help but laugh.“My efforts were all taken for granted by you. As a stepping stone by Winnie, or as a disposable tool by you, Noah. From the moment you allowed her to humiliate me and decided to take my car, whatever we had between us was gone.”“Ava, I was really wrong!” Noah was on the verge of breaking down. “Come back. You’ll still be in charge of the company. I’ll make you Vice President! I’ll fire Winnie immediately! The car is yours, and the rent will be doubled! Please, just help me talk to Mr. Parker…”“Too late.”I looked at the people moving along the street and said calmly, “The court summons will arrive soon. You should think about how to face the judge.”With that, I hung up and blocked his number. The world instantly fell quiet.I took a deep breath. Even the air felt fresher. However, I didn’t expect another twist. That very night, a trending topic suddenly appeared on social media.#EliteFemaleExecutiveBulliesNewcomerIt was a

After settling Mr. Parker, I didn’t linger and went straight to my lawyer’s firm.Mr. Carter had already prepared all the materials for the lawsuit. A thick stack of documents was neatly laid out on the table.“Ms. Clark, based on the evidence you’ve provided, your claims for vehicle usage fees, recovery of advanced funds, and compensation for reputational damage all have a strong chance of success.“As for the office building, since they’re refusing to move out and won’t renew the lease, you can apply for a forced eviction and demand double rent for the overdue period.”I flipped through the documents page by page, already mapping out every next step in my mind.“Mr. Carter, add one more claim.”“Go on.”“Defamation.” I tapped the screenshot of the internal company notice, my tone cold as ice. “Winnie fabricated facts and maliciously smeared my name. I’m suing her personally for a public apology and compensation for emotional distress.”Mr. Carter adjusted his glasses, hesit
