Chapter 5

Author: Lucky Frank
With a crash, the champagne tower shattered into pieces.

The guests around us gasped and quickly stepped back.

Andrew was only focused on protecting Kasey and the baby in her belly. He looked at me with disappointment.

Molly let out a wail and clung to my neck. Only in my embrace could my precious daughter release all the frustration she had been holding inside.

I patted Molly's back, my gaze icy as I looked at Andrew.

"This is my private property. You've occupied my yard without my consent, and I'll definitely call the police to get justice!"

But to my surprise, Andrew knocked my phone out of my hand.

He lowered his voice and warned me, "Don't cause a scene here, Mia. Today's really important to me, so just bear with it for now."

He gripped my wrist tightly and tried to pull me into the house. But unexpectedly, Kasey stepped in front of me and glared at me venomously.

"Andrew, she has ruined our special day! I want her to kneel and apologize!"

Andrew didn't dare to lay a hand on me, but his family nearby grabbed hold of me and pinned me violently to the ground.

Afraid of Molly getting hurt, I desperately shielded her in my arms. My hands, face, and body were cut and bleeding from the glass shards, the pain searing through me.

Molly clung tightly to my neck, trying to protect me with her tiny body.

"Don't hit my mommy! Please, don't hit my mommy!"

I couldn't hold back the tears when I heard Molly's fearful voice.

It was my fault! I shouldn't have let love blind me, thinking that as long as I tried hard enough, the Sonovan family would accept me.

Andrew looked at me through the crowd. But the moment our eyes met, he turned away. The pain in my heart was a hundred times worse than the physical agony.

I had to remember this feeling. From now on, I would sever all ties with Andrew. We would have nothing to do with each other anymore!

Molly broke free from my arms and ran to the Sonovan family, clinging to their legs and begging them.

"This is all my fault. I was the one who wanted to come here. Please don't hit my mommy anymore. If you want to hit anyone, hit me!"

But the Sonovan family kicked Molly away.

"Molly!"

Both Andrew and I cried out in shock.

Molly crashed heavily into the wall. Andrew reached her before me, and he scooped her up.

"Sir, hit me. Don't hit Mommy anymore."

I grabbed a handful of broken glass and shoved my way through the crowd like a madwoman, snatching Molly back into my arms.

"Molly! Molly, this is all my fault. I'm taking you to the doctor. Molly!"

Andrew saw me stumbling away and instinctively started to come after us, but Kasey grabbed his hand.

I didn't look back. I would never forgive anyone who hurt my daughter, not even her own father.

Thankfully, Molly's injuries were only superficial. None of her vital organs had been harmed.

The day Molly was discharged from the hospital happened to be the day before we were set to leave.

Andrew never came to visit. He only sent someone to return my phone.

"Mia, I really have my reasons. Wait for me. I promise I'll give you and Molly an explanation."

But his so-called explanation was nothing more than the news of his marriage alliance of the century with Kasey.

Even though I hadn't been paying attention to their situation, the news still managed to reach me from all directions.

On the day we were leaving, I had the place we had been living in cleaned and sold at the fastest speed.

I sat in the airport lounge, holding Molly in my arms. Just then, after days of silence, Andrew called.

I hung up on him several times, but he kept calling back. Just as I was about to turn off my phone, I accidentally hit the answer button.

"Mia, you finally picked up—"

Before he could finish, the airport announcement blared over the speaker.

"Mia, where are you and Molly going? Please, listen to me. I can explain. I—"

I cut him off. "Andrew, we're done. From now on, we have nothing to do with each other anymore."

After saying that, I turned off my phone.

"Molly, it's Daddy! Come here. Let me give you a hug, okay?"The disheveled Andrew reached out his hand, but Molly immediately turned pale in the face. She quickly hid behind Dad.I exhaled slowly, then walked over to Dad and patted him on the back. He looked like he was ready to charge at Andrew any second."Dad, why don't you take Molly back first?" I said."Dad? Mia, aren't you an orphan?" Andrew looked at me in disbelief. Our neighbor, who had long heard about my troubles with Andrew, stood at the door with a broom. She spat at Andrew and said, "Mia's parents are perfectly fine, you scoundrel! You thought Mia was an orphan, so you could bully her however you wanted? From the looks of it, you're destined to be alone forever. You don't deserve Mia at all!"Andrew's expression darkened at the neighbor's scolding. He looked at me intently and demanded, "Why did you lie to me? Mia, I loved you so much—how could you lie to me?"Unable to hold back any longer, I slapped him across

After reuniting with my parents, Molly quickly warmed up to her grandparents. It was her first time meeting them.I wasn't actually an orphan. It was just that my parents worked abroad for most of my life, so Grandma raised me.Once I landed, I switched to a new phone number. Although I didn't keep up with the news from home, I still came across news reports about the Sonovan and Jordan families."Rumours swirl about the breakdown of the marriage alliance between the Sonovan and Jordan families, with Kasey Jordan reportedly seeking medical treatment late at night.""Head of the Sonovan family announces the termination of cooperation, sparking speculation of a relationship crisis."The comments below unexpectedly dragged me into this."I heard that the Sonovan and Jordan families were planning to open a resort together. "Incorrect passcode."After entering the passcode three times, the lock was disabled.Andrew frowned and kicked the door hard.Mia had gone too far this time. How could she change the passcode without telling him?Andrew still didn't believe that I had left. After all, in his eyes, I was just a homeless orphan."She must have gone to complain to her grandma again."Andrew called a cab and headed to Cloudalis.Sure enough! The courtyard house was brightly lit. His pace quickened, almost to the point where he couldn't control his steps. But to his surprise, inside there was only a team of demolition workers."Who sent you here? Who told you to tear down the house?"Kasey, who was overseeing the demolition, immediately ran over and hugged his waist pitifully."Andrew, I was the one who asked them to come. Didn't you promise me that you would give me this land as compensation?"Andrew's expression changed, and he took a step back. "When did I ever say you could tear down the ho

The news of the cancellation of the engagement between Andrew and Kasey sent the Sonovan family into a frenzy. However, Andrew ignored them all. He locked himself in his family's ancestral home.He made call after call, but my phone was still turned off.Left without a choice, he resorted to asking his friends to search for any news about me.During the rest of the time, he kept replaying my voice messages over and over again. We used to talk about everything. But eventually, it became a one-sided conversation, and later, even that had dwindled to nothing more than routine greetings. This shift had begun about half a year ago. It was around that time that his younger brother, Harry Sonovan, passed away unexpectedly. To comfort his sister-in-law, Kasey Jordan, and to maintain the relationship between her family and his, he started seeing her and promised to have a child with her.Kasey had once been his childhood neighbor, and they had many things in common. Ignoring everything, Andrew rushed out of the banquet hall and drove toward the airport. All the way there, he kept calling my phone again and again. But unfortunately, he never managed to get through. He slammed his foot down on the gas pedal, and the car sped down the road. All the billboards along the road were plastered with photos of him and Kasey in their wedding attire. His expression shifted. The wedding date printed beneath the photos was February 22nd—the tenth anniversary of the day we first met.It had always felt like fate, and Andrew used to joke that it was a sign we were meant to spend our lives together.A sliver of fear crept into his heart. He knew how much he had put me through over the years and had initially planned to make it up to me once everything was settled. We had already spent ten years together, and he wanted another ten. But he had forgotten that I had once told him I could accept everything about him when I was in love with him. This included his
