Chapter 1

Author: Luna Grain
When the Black Forest pack guards surrounded me, I was gathering silverleaf for Killian.

Three days ago, he had been gravely injured while saving Elena after she ran away from home. The healer said only silverleaf could ensure his full recovery. Unfortunately, the herb only grew on the edge of the Black Forest pack's territory—a pack that had always been hostile toward our Moon Crescent pack.

For Killian's sake, I had ventured out alone. I never expected Elena to leak my whereabouts, which led directly to my intentional capture.

They wanted to use me to threaten Killian. But when they realized I was completely useless to him, they tore me to pieces in a fit of rage.

After I died, my soul floated into the air.

I watched those werewolves toss my remains aside like trash. Pieces of me drifted far away down the river until someone from the Moon Crescent pack finally spotted them.

The familiar scent instantly put our pack on high alert. Soon, someone brought a femur back to the pack house.

Killian stared at the bone, recognizing the scent immediately.

Looking at his tense face, my soul grew anxious. Would he grieve for me, seeing me dead like this? Or would he just find me troublesome and throw me out like he always did?

I guessed wrong. Killian didn't even recognize me.

"Are you certain this belongs to someone from our pack?" Killian asked.

"Yes, Alpha," the elder replied. "We checked it with the crystal. This femur belonged to an adult female from the Moon Crescent pack."

"There are bite marks on the bone. She was likely chewed to death while still alive."

The elders put it gently, but everyone in the room knew exactly what that meant.

Killian slammed his hand on the desk in a fury. "We cannot let the killers get away with this! We must avenge her!"

The elder sighed. "We’ve been finding more remains nearby. The pack is panicking. For the sake of stability, I'm afraid Miss Elena’s birthday party next week cannot be held as scheduled."

Elena had arrived at the Moon Crescent pack three years ago. Killian had rescued her in the wild, and she had stayed by his side ever since, claiming to be like a sister to him. To Killian, the young Elena was far more interesting than I was. They called themselves siblings, but she acted much more like his soulmate than I ever did.

Hearing that Elena’s party might be canceled, Killian countered unhappily, "Why should this conflict with her party? We actually need a grand banquet right now to lift everyone's spirits."

"But... your Luna, Sheilah, still hasn't returned," the elder noted. "Word is she went to gather silverleaf for you."

Killian scoffed. "I don't believe a single word. Sheilah would never go gather silverleaf! This is just another one of her lies. She ran away in a tantrum because she's jealous of Elena. It serves her right to suffer a little out there!"

Hearing those words, my dead heart somehow still ached.

As my fated mate, Killian hadn't even noticed my passing. Technically, the moment I died, our mate bond should have snapped. But in reality, that bond had already broken the day Elena arrived because he had been blocking our mind-link ever since.

Even though I was nothing but a pile of bones, Killian still hated me.

The elders spoke up again. "As your mate, Sheilah should be present for this birthday party."

"Staging a disappearance just to skip the party? Sheilah is acting entirely too childish!"

"Exactly! She is so reckless. How is she fit to be our Luna?"

None of them knew I was already dead.

Hearing the elders blame me, Killian frowned, his expression darkening.

Just then, Elena walked through the door. The moment Killian saw her, a smile finally graced his face.

Killian avenged me.The warriors of the Moon Crescent Pack completely outnumbered the Black Forest Pack. After a bloody battle, Killian captured Elena alive. She was heavily injured and barely able to stand.Even on the brink of death, Elena refused to miss any opportunity to torment Killian."Go ahead and kill me, but it won't bring Sheilah back!" she jeered. "You got hurt trying to save me, and Sheilah died trying to save you! Tell me, if she knew the truth, do you think she’d want to tear you to shreds?"Knowing her fate was sealed, Elena grew entirely reckless with her words.Floating above, my phantom eyes grew red. No, even knowing the truth, I wouldn't tear Killian apart. Back when I was a child, the other young werewolves at the academy used to bully me, and Killian was the one who stood up for me. He protected me for three whole years. He probably didn't even remember it himself, but I did.Killian approached Elena, his sword drawn."I will personally atone for what I d

"Of course. When do you want to go?" Killian asked lazily.Elena sat up. "How about tomorrow? The place where Sheilah died is near the Black Forest territory. Killian, is it really okay?" she asked, her tone heavy with cautious testing.Killian suddenly smiled. "It's fine. As long as it makes my Elena happy, I'll go anywhere with you."He took Elena's hand, his eyes filled with a deep, simulated affection. "Sheilah is already dead. Once we return, we can form our mate bond. My dear Miss Elena, would you do me the honor?"Elena beamed. "I'd love to."Suddenly realizing they had just been discussing a memorial for me, Elena quickly wiped the smile from her face. She cupped Killian's cheeks, looking like an innocent, sweet girl worrying over her older sister. "But what about Sheilah?"Killian sneered. "That stupid she-wolf? She got what she deserved!"'Yes! I was a stupid she-wolf,' my soul echoed bitterly. Stupid enough to ever believe a single word you said.Once Elena left late

Once he managed to compose himself, Killian stumbled to his feet and walked over to the cabinet in his office. He pulled open the top drawer, which was packed to the brim with various medicines I had prepared for him. They were all brand new; he had never used a single one.In the drawer below lay the medicines Elena had given him, and those bottles were almost empty. Killian found two identical-looking boxes and took a different pill from each. After labeling them, he rushed them straight to Layla’s laboratory."Analyze the ingredients of these two medicines as fast as possible!" he ordered.A day later, Killian met Layla in the lab. Her expression was exceptionally grim."The medicine in the green box is highly beneficial to the body, though it works slowly," Layla explained. "The medicine in the blue box grants a werewolf a brief, massive burst of energy upon consumption, but the long-term cost is catastrophic."Layla paused, studying Killian’s reaction before testing the water

Having failed to extort him, the Black Forest pack cut off my head to humiliate Killian. Elena shrieked and buried herself in Killian's chest, leaving my head to roll across the floor. The moment Killian saw it, his expression changed completely. For the first time, he pushed Elena away and walked over to the head, trembling as he forced himself to look closer. He brushed aside the tangled hair, revealing my face with undeniable clarity. From the air, I watched shock take over Killian's face. His skin turned deathly pale as he gathered my head into his arms. Suddenly, unable to handle the overwhelming trauma, he blacked out. When Killian finally woke, only Elena was by his side. "You're finally awake!" she said, gently helping him up just as she always did. "The healer said you're in shock and very weak right now. I made your favorite meat broth."This time, Killian shoved her away. "Get out," he muttered, keeping his head down.Elena gave him a resentful look but ultimately left

The day of Elena’s birthday party arrived, and I still hadn't appeared. At the banquet, the elders repeatedly pressed Killian to publicly announce the severance of our mate bond.Killian’s expression remained dark. "Go! Bring Sheilah back to me by force!" he ordered his guards. "I want to see exactly how long she plans to play these pathetic games!"Right then, a guard rushed into the hall, carefully carrying a square box. Seeing the box and realizing what was inside, my phantom breath hitched."This was delivered by the Black Forest pack," the guard announced. "They specified that Miss Elena must open it herself."The Black Forest pack?Confusion rippled through the crowd. One werewolf spoke up in awe, "Miss Elena is incredible! Even the Black Forest pack sent her a birthday gift.""It looks like we'll be signing a peace treaty with them soon, all thanks to Miss Elena!""This is exactly the kind of capable Luna our pack needs!"Someone in the crowd started the praise, and it s

Two days after the news spread, I still hadn't appeared. The elders' resentment toward me grew stronger, fueling a rising demand across the pack to strip me of my title. Meanwhile, Killian remained entirely focused on planning Elena’s birthday banquet."Alpha, Sheilah has been missing for five days now!"Layla was my only true friend, and the only person who actually worried about me after I disappeared. Floating in the air, I could clearly see the growing disgust in Killian's eyes as he stared at her with utter impatience."She’s just throwing a tantrum because she hates how well I treat Elena!" Killian snapped. "She’ll drag herself back here once the birthday party starts."I won't, Killian. I'm never coming back.In the air, my soul wept, mourning the years I had wasted on him. Killian, haven't you noticed? Without the silverleaf to fully heal your wounds, your power is draining away. If you would just stop blocking our mind-link, you would know that I am already dead."Layla,
