Lancelot did not know the term 'calm'. Our kiss was too fast and too intense, and the strong smell of wolf was present. Possibly the best kissing experience I had had the first time with someone. His eyes shone, and he heard the heartbeat.

“I think we’d better go,” he said, stepping away. It was the best decision ever because if it continued, it might end in unplanned ways.

As we left the chamber, he said goodbye to the employees. None of them seemed bothered, maybe all that was common. Anyway, all werewolves; it would be a problem less, not to hide, that was. Some wolves had to mate with humans, and that was a punishment. It almost always ended in rejection, and not everyone got a second chance. Again, I felt guilty for having received one, I didn’t think I deserved it.

We left Jenjen Village for a walk. It was a quiet neighborhood, and when you were a wolf, you were even less afraid of life. We weren’t afraid of humans.

Lancelot avoided looking me in the eye. “When his children came to the cafe, they were with four more wolves,” he said, looking forward. “They had no smell.”

“That, exactly,” I mentioned. I told him about the day of the disappearance and how there was no smell of anything. “I had never heard of it,” I mentioned. In fact, masking the smell completely was unreal. We could disguise it with other smells and camouflage types, but we did not eliminate it.

“Naomi, what do you know about wolves like me? What do you know about medium-sized wolves?” he asked me, seriously. The street was almost empty, but some humans were chatting around the village. Several establishments were running as well.

“Not much, actually,” I said. In fact, I didn’t know much about them. In fact, it had been a while since I’d seen one.

Looking at me, Lancelot said something interesting. “Smell my scent,” he asked. I looked at him carefully, trying not to focus on the image of his naked body, minutes before. It had no smell. Lancelot had no smell. “You’re not getting it, are you? We can do that,” he said.

“They’re like you,” I asked. He agreed, and then I smelled him again. “So I didn’t feel anything. But why didn’t my children smell too?” He looked at me and stopped. Curious, I also stopped, looking at him. Then Lancelot took my right hand and squeezed it gently.

“Feel, it is shareable. By touching me, if I want, I can remove your smell. When you are in the majority, do not need the touch. That’s the reason your children don’t smell on the spot. It was probably the four who kidnapped them. I found it strange that they didn’t smell, but I had no idea about the kidnapping. I’m sorry,” he said. My heart was beating faster.

“You couldn’t have known. Anyway, it was a very useful piece of information; thank you for that,” I thanked. That would be of great help. I had no idea why a rare species of wolf would be interested in children. “Well, I need to go. I need to rest for tomorrow, you know,” I said goodbye, moving on, having a lot to assimilate.

“Naomi,” he called me. I looked back, watching him, standing still. “Did you see, didn’t you?” he asked me. We shared the pictures. Wolves could communicate in different ways. The bin. He showed me the bin. I turned completely back and walked back to him.

“You are a wolf with transformation problems. Yes, I saw it,” I said. There was no reason to lie; he did not try to hide.

“You had a mate with Casper, didn’t you? I’d never had a mate; actually, I didn’t know it was possible to have one being who I am,” he said. “Thank you for being my Luna.” He looked different from before. He was being too sincere, too friendly. “Anyway, can I accompany you?” he asked. I nodded.

We walked in silence for almost the whole way. It was comfortable to be relaxing with him. The pleasant smell of him was too comforting. The smell of the wolf was surreal.

We arrived at my house. It was ordinary, large, with a first floor. There was a path to the door and a yard at the back. At the end, a forest, where I had run to look for Jody.

“Naomi,” he called to me, as soon as we stopped. “I know it’s not the best time for this, but when you’re free, would you like to run with me?” he made me the invitation. It was common for wolves to run together. The city was big enough to contain forests, and there were many. There were many wolves in the city.

“Sure, it’ll be a pleasure,” I accepted, smiling. He smiled too, just like he did in the cafeteria. “Do you want to come in?” I asked, but he denied it, saying he had something to do. I would like him to come in. Being alone without the children was distressing.

“See you, Naomi; it was a pleasure,” he smiled again. I wanted to run up to him and ask him to stay, but I didn’t. I watched him walk and follow his way; I entered the house.

The darkness of the hallways took hold of my vision. An empty house, with only memories. Six years of much love are now gone. I sat on the couch, prepared to wait for sleep for another day. I closed my eyes, still sitting, not wanting to lie down. Likewise, I thought of the children. It had been a busy day. I was exhausted. A few minutes later, I heard a strange noise. Attention, I got up. I followed the sound. My sharpest sense was the smell, but there was no smell. I did not feel fear, so I kept following the sound.

Finally, I heard a growl behind me and was attacked by a black wolf. There was no smell, and it was a medium wolf. Without fear, I fought back, using a part of my human strength. Not belonging to a pack did not make me so weak. The wolf came up again, and I ran, trying to limit the available rooms between us. It was risky to turn in the middle of a confrontation; any movement could be fatal. Unfortunately, I was already at a disadvantage.

Worried about the advance of attacks and without time and space to transform, I tried to create an advantage. At least defensively, I could protect myself. Although not so weak, our size differences were large and my human form was reasonably fragile, so I needed to think intelligently.

The wolf was a female and continued to attack me, still without smell. I did not know the objectives for sure. Suddenly, I heard a howl not so far away, and in an instant there was another huge wolf in my room.

“Lancelot,” I said, recognizing him. His wolf had already put its claws into the intruder, causing her to bleed.

The strength of the middle wolf seemed greater than that of the female. It was common for males to be stronger. I wondered about the difference in strength between me and Lancelot since we were of different species.

I lifted him as I could. His body was light and heavy at the same time. I held him in my lap, resting my head between my shoulder and my chest, and felt the scent of mud, blood, and fur mixing with his smell. "Stay with me," I whispered. "Hold on, just a little longer." He breathed, a short sound. The branches scratched my legs, the boots slipped in the mud; in each fall, I held him as if holding the last piece of the world. There was no rush to take everything at once. When the skin rubbed with my hand, I felt trembling; when the forehead touched my shoulder, I almost fainted in relief. The stream stayed behind, and the trail went up. Every time I saw a clearing, my body reacted. Casper was not foolish; he would not give up.At one point, his chest sank against my body, and I felt his heart beat. I felt the ribs under my hand, the uneven heat, and started chanting small, simple things to keep humanity there. The breath faltered, and for a second, his eyes trembled as if they wanted t

The silence after the howling was the worst kind of noise. I was kneeling for too long, trying to understand if he was still close or if it was just the forest fooling me.I stood up slowly, my legs shaking. Likewise, I couldn’t stop there. The ground showed the trail of escape. He was hurt. It was his territory. Even without seeing, I felt. He guided me. "You can’t be far away," I murmured, not noticing that he was speaking out loud. The sound of my own voice made me shudder.I walked as the ground began to descend. The smell became stronger there, and the air was warmer. It was strange. The sound of the water reached me first. The stream. It always came back there. When I got close, I saw the blood trail mixed with the water. I stood still for a moment, my chest clenching. "You’re listening to me, aren’t you?" I asked. Nothing was answered. Only the sound of the current. I took another step. The ground gave slightly under the feet, and something shone near the shore. The wind blew l

The smell of burning iron guided me. Even from a distance, I already knew that something had gone wrong. The forest was too quiet. I walked with my heart beating fast, my feet sinking into the wet earth. With each step, the smell of blood became stronger. I recognized that smell, even mixed with others. It was his. It was Lancelot. When I came out of the trees, the house appeared in front of me, half swallowed by the mist. The windows were open, and the wind made the curtains slam hard. The feeling was one of abandonment, but I knew it wasn’t that long. He had been there. I could feel it. The wood was stained. I touched the surface, and dried blood stuck to my fingers. Still warm enough to tell me it wasn’t even an hour. The door was ajar. I pushed carefully. The inside smelled of iron, sweat, and gunpowder. I entered. The floor had marks, deep scratches that cut through the wooden floor. I followed the trail to the corridor. Every step hurt. Every memory, too. When I got to the basem

The run to the house was a blur. The forest moved around me as if breathing with me. When I saw the familiar shadows of my home, the feeling was almost one of relief. Almost. The back door was ajar, the wind swinging the curtains. I entered in silence, my heart still racing. The ground creaked under my feet, the smell of wood mixed with my own blood. Everything there seemed too small to contain what I had become. The beast hated walls. The man needed them. It was the man who won by a few minutes. I staggered to the basement, where the transformation chamber waited.I went in, my body heavy, and closed the gate behind me. The sound of the iron snapping was like a reminder of who I was. I had built that place to contain myself, and now I was back to the starting point. The cycle repeated itself, only worse. I lay on the cold floor, trying to breathe slowly. Every breath was accompanied by pain and heat. The body was throbbing, the complete transformation oscillating between the inevitab

I woke up to the sound of my own breath. My whole body hurt. For a moment, I did not understand where I was. I only saw the forest moving slowly, the gray sky in the morning, and the smell. The smell was everything. I tried to get up, but the body did not respond as before. The legs obeyed differently, the weight was distributed incorrectly, and when I tried to support my hands, I realized the mistake. The nails had turned into claws, short, sharp, and dirty with blood. I touched my face and felt the muzzle still incomplete, the skin stretched, the jaw caught between two forms. Half man. Half wolf. Neither was it entire yet.The head throbbed. The memories came in disjointed flashes: her voice calling my name, the sound of the rifle being armed, and the scream that came out of me before everything was extinguished. And then, nothing. Now, only the emptiness.I tried to remember what made me stop. Run. I shouldn’t have run. The instinct was to return, to finish what had been started,

Pain came before consciousness. First, like a snap in the bones, then like a warm tide, crossing flesh, skin, and mind. I felt everything—every piece moving in the wrong place, every muscle trying to run away from its own shape. The world turned, and the only thing that remained real was the smell. I heard voices, distant, diluted in fever. Someone said my name. A familiar voice, soft and desperate. Naomi. I tried to answer, but the tongue did not obey. The jaw hurt as it grew and displaced. The sound that came out was not human. It was a hoarse grunt, a failed attempt to remember who I was.The skin burned. It was as if my body wanted to tear itself to escape. The heart beat so fast that it hurt. I felt the veins throbbing, the blood coursing through my body with an absurd speed. The voices became closer. A cold order, a hot plea. Casper and Naomi. The two forces that have always divided me are opposite and inevitable. One is trying to erase me; another is anchoring me. But the body
