"Nadia, where are you going?" Lydia whispered in a low voice.

"To see grandma," I lied.

"Since when did you wear pearl necklaces to grandma's?"

"Since today, of course."

"Can I borrow your beaded purse, please? It will go perfectly with my pearls and dress."

"No. Tell me where you are going first."

"On a date. I will be back in a few hours."

"REALLY? Nadia!"
