Chapter 1

작가: Double Edge
As the sound of the royal carriage faded into the distance, my eldest stepsister, Mira Carrington, and my second stepsister, Bianca Carrington, exchanged a glance, their faces drained of color. At the same time, I pressed a hand against my aching chest.

It seemed that everyone had been reborn.

My stepmother, Sienna Drake, grabbed the feather duster beside her and swung it toward me. "Ryla Carrington, was this your doing? If you ruin your sisters' chances of marrying into the royal family, I'll skin you alive!"

In the past, I would have already curled up in the corner, trembling in fear. But this time, before I could even move, two hands reached out and grabbed Sienna's wrist.

Mira's face was ghostly pale. "Mom, stop. If you beat her to death, we'll die even sooner."

Bianca trembled all over as she stepped in front of me. "Nobody's allowed to lay a hand on Ryla!"

Sienna froze, her eyes wide with shock. "What kind of spell did this brat cast on you two?"

Mira shouted impatiently, "Mom, just shut up!"

Mira turned to look at me, her expression unreadable. "Ryla, you were reborn too, weren't you?"

I brushed the dust off my skirt and looked at them coldly. "Looks like you both remember how you died."

Sienna kept rambling, "What's all this talk about dying? What kind of nonsense is that? Ryla, from now on, you are not allowed to step outside your room! This time, the title of princess will definitely go to—"

"Enough!" Mira and Bianca shouted.

They exchanged a glance, then each grabbed one of Sienna's arms and dragged her toward the bedroom. The door slammed shut with a loud bang.

Ten minutes later, it opened.

Every trace of Sienna's usual arrogance had vanished. Trembling, she gritted her teeth and forced the words out. "I… I'm done with this. Whoever wants to be princess can have it. I'm not getting involved. You… you figure it out yourselves!"

As soon as she finished speaking, she stumbled back to her room and locked the door. Only Mira, Bianca, and I remained in the living room.

Mira took a deep breath. "Alright, since we've all been reborn with our memories intact, let's be straight with each other. In the past three lifetimes, we sabotaged one another trying to become the princess, but in the end, we were all killed by that lunatic prince."

Bianca stood up and rubbed her neck. "That's right. In our first lives, Mira cut her toes to fit the slipper and got chopped to pieces. In our second lives, I trimmed my heel and ended up being hanged from the city gates. In our third lives, Ryla managed to squeeze into the slipper but still had her heart ripped out."

They both turned to look at me at the same time.

I smiled bitterly. "But that slipper really was mine."

"Then why did he still kill you?" Mira asked urgently. "You were the slipper's owner!"

I stared at the glass slipper on the coffee table and said quietly, "He said I didn't love him and asked me why I was pretending to be her."

If cutting off toes to fit the slipper counted as impersonation and even the real owner had been accused of being a fake, just who exactly was that lunatic prince looking for?

Mira suddenly slammed her hand down on the table, rattling the tea set. "This time around, none of us will survive on our own. If we want to live, we have to track down the real owner of the glass slipper within three days!"

Bianca grabbed at her hair in frustration. "Is Prince Adrian out of his mind?"

She turned to me and asked, "Ryla, what exactly happened at the ball that night? Were you hiding something from him too?"

The pain I expected never came.A loud bang rang out. I opened my eyes and stared in disbelief as the glass slipper, blazing with brilliant light, flew up on its own and blocked the sword. The slipper then erupted with a blinding white light that instantly flooded the entire pumpkin patch. From within the light, a commanding, furious voice rang out. "You evil creature! How dare you lay a hand on my daughter?"When the light faded, a woman wearing a magnificent gown and a crown appeared in midair. She was none other than the current queen, Elena Vale. Beside her stood a fully armed unit of royal guards. The moment Prince Adrian saw Queen Elena, the sword slipped from his hand with a loud clang, and he began trembling violently. "M-Mom? Why are you here?"Queen Elena's gaze was ice-cold. "Was I supposed to stand by and watch you kill the true heir?"Everyone froze. The true heir?Queen Elena turned around. Her gaze swept past me, past Mira, and finally, to everyone's disbelief, l

Behind me, Bianca sucked in a sharp breath and whispered, "Ryla, you're completely making this up. How would we know where the true heir is?"Mira pinched her hard. "Shut up. She's just buying us time."Prince Adrian's expression instantly darkened. He let out a cold, unsettling laugh. "That's right. I'm a fake. So what?"That wretched queen threw away her daughter right after giving birth and swapped her with me just to secure her status. But this land has a spirit of its own. It recognizes bloodlines! Every single day I sit on that throne, it feels like I'm being burned alive!"He violently tore his collar open. His chest was covered in numerous black cracks, a horrifying sight. "Only by breaking the curse can I stop my body from breaking down. I've searched the entire kingdom, and the owner of those glass slippers is the only one with that level of power."Just then, Prince Adrian's skin began to change in a disturbing way. His once-pale skin started peeling away, revealing dar

Prince Adrian caught up with my sisters and me. He raised his sword high and brought it down toward my head. "Die!"A sharp crack split the air. Mira had grabbed a thick wooden stick from somewhere and used it to block the blade. The stick snapped in two instantly. The impact split the skin between Mira's thumb and forefinger, sending her flying backward."Mira!" Bianca screamed and rushed toward her.She scooped up a fistful of dirt and hurled it straight at Prince Adrian's eyes. He let out a painful shriek, clutched at his eyes, and swung his sword wildly.Just then, Rosalie finally came swooping down from above on her broomstick. She still had a half-eaten baguette in her hand. "Who's there? It's the middle of the night, and you're ruining my beauty sleep!"The moment Prince Adrian heard her voice, he abruptly stopped. Ignoring his still-bleeding eyes, he stared at Rosalie hovering in midair as a deeply unsettling look of joy spread across his face. "It's you. I finally found

Prince Adrian's eyes were bloodshot. "What did you say? You know who she is? Where is she?"I forced myself to stay steady despite my pounding heart and pointed out the window. "She just slipped away!"Before I even finished speaking, Prince Adrian slammed the door open and rushed out without sparing me another glance.I collapsed onto the floor, gasping for air. Before I could recover, two heads suddenly popped up from below the windowsill.Mira appeared with her hair in a complete mess, clutching half a brick. "Ryla, you're alive!"Bianca stood there holding a bucket of holy water, looking both disappointed and relieved. "I was all ready to take care of your body and splash him with holy water to drive the evil away."I rolled my eyes and pushed myself up off the floor. "Stop talking. We need to go after him now! If that lunatic finds out the truth, we're all finished!"The three of us lifted our skirts and sprinted out of the palace without caring about appearances.Mira gas

I could barely remember how I had left the palace.Prince Adrian insisted on escorting me home, but I turned him down, saying it was bad luck for us to see each other before the wedding.By the time I got home, the sky had already gone dark. Seeing me return in my elegant gown safe and sound, Mira and Bianca rushed over to me.I gulped down a large mouthful of cold water before the nausea finally eased. "Listen, everything we guessed before was wrong."I leaned in and whispered a few words to them. After hearing me out, my sisters exchanged a glance, their expressions turning grave.…The next day, the three-day deadline arrived.Prince Adrian held the glass slipper, his expression dark and threatening. "If no one can fit into this slipper—"Mira and Bianca's knees nearly gave out from fear as they clutched each other's arms tightly. Neither of them dared to step forward. Sienna hid behind the couch and didn't even dare show her face.I took a deep breath and walked forward, o

Rosalie cleared her throat twice. "I was actually in a hurry to get to a dinner with the Wizards' Association that night, so I rushed through the spell a little. By the rules, all the magic should've disappeared after midnight."I suddenly realized something. "Right! The carriage turned back into a pumpkin, the coachman turned back into a mouse, and my gown turned back into rags. So why didn't the glass slipper in Prince Adrian's hand disappear?"In our past lives, my sisters and I had been too busy fighting to marry the prince that we had completely overlooked this glaring inconsistency.Rosalie scratched her head. "Honestly, I can't explain it either. All I know is that the one who danced with you that night really was Prince Adrian and the slipper really was yours. As for why he's lost his mind, that's beyond my expertise."Mira was so furious that she looked like she was about to hit Rosalie. "You're useless!"I stopped Mira. Since time was running out, I suggested going to th
