Jack didn't respond.

Jessie knew better than anyone what three years in prison meant. She hadn't come out broken or resigned to her fate.

Instead, she had pushed herself in every way possible, determined to live like everyone else.

She put away her phone, leaned back on the sofa, and looked out the window. "I just worry that maybe they were right, that after prison, I really can't do anything anymore."

"You worked on a lot of things there, didn't you? You picked up plenty of high-tech skills. You're not out of touch with the world, and you're definitely not useless." Jack's voice was calm.
