Chapter 95

Author: Cotton
Jessie stepped out of the cab, and the moment she reached the entrance of York Enterprise, she spotted Henry.

She only glanced at him once before continuing forward in silence.

Henry quickly moved to block her path.

"Jessie, you've probably heard about your brother's hit-and-run. It's all over the news. I went to see him yesterday. He was crying when he said he wanted to see you."

Jessie lifted her gaze. Her expression was calm and detached.

"What? You want me to teach him how to survive in prison?"

Her words stunned Henry for a second before he frowned.

"He only said he wanted to see you. He also told me he was framed."

Jessie wasn't surprised.

She already knew who was really behind the hit-and-run, and she had solid proof.

Unfortunately, the Stewart family's mess had nothing to do with her anymore.

"If he was framed, he can tell the cops. Or you can get him a lawyer. I'm sure if someone looks into it, the truth will come to light."

She brushed past Henry, but he immediate

Mark clenched his fists tightly. After a long silence, he finally told Henry, "From now on, keep an eye on her for me. Freddy, Mia, and our parents will definitely try to cause her trouble. All she wants is to work in peace, without being dragged into our mess.""I'm sure there are other ways to handle this. I already checked on the victim. He's out of critical condition. I'll do my best to find a lawyer to mediate. If it comes down to money, we'll pay whatever it takes," Henry assured him.Jessie stood up without a word and walked out.Henry was about to leave too, but Mark stopped him. Through the glass, Mark said, "When you get the chance, dig into what really happened back then. She went through the same thing I am now. Even if it's too late to make it right, this is the last thing I can do for her as her brother."Henry froze, then realization struck him. When he rushed outside, he was surprised to see Laura and Mia blocking Jessie's way."Jessie, where have you been? Do you

Laura's face filled with panic the moment she heard Bruce's words."What is wrong with you? Something that serious happened and you ran? You didn't take the victim to the hospital?""Mom–"Mark shouted, but before he could finish, the lead officer cut him off."So you're Mark? You'll need to come with us.""Mom, I didn't do it. Officer, I swear I didn't. I didn't do a hit-and-run!"Mark felt conflicted, fearful, and confused. Above all, he felt wronged. Why would Bruce do this to him?He didn't even know how badly the victim was hurt, or if he'd end up like Jessie back then, spending three years behind bars.Seeing his expression, Laura lost all reason. She rushed forward, grabbed his hand, and pleaded with the officers."There must be some mistake! What if the person who reported it got it wrong?""The security cameras don't lie."With that, the officers dragged Mark out of the house. He hadn't even changed his shoes. One slipper fell off as they hauled him away.Mia and

Inside the private room, Jessie's phone buzzed. She glanced down and saw a video from a friend. She tapped it open.-When Bruce came to his senses, he realized that in the middle of the road lay a man in a yellow delivery uniform who was sprawled out and motionless.Panic rose in his chest. He reached for his phone but quickly forced himself to calm down. Then, without hesitation, he drove away and fled back to the Stewart family estate. The moment he walked in, Mia's crying echoed through the house. His head felt like it was about to explode. He kicked off his shoes and headed straight upstairs.Annoyed, Mark turned and called out, "Dad, where have you even been these past few days?"Dad, Mia got bullied tonight by Jessie and her friends again! You've got to talk to Mom. Make her call Jessie back here. I swear, I'm going to teach her a lesson she won't forget!" Freddy's angry voice followed. From upstairs, Laura's voice rang out, "Jessie won't come back because of the way y

Jessie didn't enjoy scenes like this.Years ago, when Mia had witnessed something similar, her eyes had been filled with contempt and even excitement, like she was eager to see Jessie being humiliated.Jessie could never become someone like Mia."I don't need someone like her on her knees for me. It's just a waste of my time."Jessie's voice was calm. She seemed almost indifferent.Jack smiled and stared at Freddy, whose body was stiff from fear."Did you hear that? Get lost."Ronny immediately stepped forward and shoved them out.Mia, unwilling to accept defeat, turned back to look at Jessie before leaving.Jessie stood at Jack's side with a cold expression on her face. She didn't need to grovel, flatter, or beg for approval like Mia did. Jessie only needed to be herself. That huge contrast made Mia stagger.Jessie was no longer the pitiful orphan who begged for affection and was ignored by everyone. Now, she and Jack stood as equals. He defended her without expecting her

Jessie's brows furrowed the moment she heard the angry voice.Freddy, who had been working away all this time, had actually come back. But her attention wasn't on him. It was on Jack, whose expression had darkened. This was supposed to be his birthday celebration, a joyful day, and her arrival had ended up spoiling it.Guilt weighed on her as she said, "I'll step out and deal with some personal matters. Sorry, Mr. Gerome, for ruining your party."At that moment, she couldn't help but think that if it weren't for the Stewart family, her life would have been so much better. Before prison, she hadn't lacked money. She could have pursued design, studied at a prestigious college with waived tuition, and even earned scholarships. She would've had her own circle of friends, and she never would've been in a situation like tonight.Jack smiled."Birthdays come and go. They're nothing new. This year, though, was a real surprise."Hearing that, Ronny and the others quietly stepped back
