Sage

I never thought I’d see death and not feel fear, but when he struck me, his fists like bricks against bone, his words venom curling around my ribs, I didn’t flinch for myself. I flinched because he said he’d kill Kaiden next. I tasted blood and dread.

The man’s hatred wasn’t even about me. It wasn’t about justice, revenge, or some warped ideology. It was about the professor.

I think he was so infatuated with the professor.

That realization hit harder than his fists ever could. He was doing all of this because he hated River.

And yet, I couldn’t even be angry with the professor anymore. Not after he’d told me everything. He hadn’t owed me his truth, and yet he gave it to me. Raw. Bleeding. Unpretty. That counted for something, didn’t it?

What I cared about now wasn’t who betrayed who, or who kept what secret.

I just wanted Kaiden back.

The man had promised he would kill him. That wasn’t a threat. That was a promise made by someone who didn’t see people, only pawns.

  • The Professor Wants Me and So Does My Bestfriend   Like a teenage boy

KaidenThe chair creaked under my weight as I shifted again. My wrists were free, but it didn’t matter. The room was too white and sanitized with insanity. I had been here for days. Maybe longer. Time stopped making sense after the third sleep. Or maybe it was the fifth. There was no window. No clock. Just this chair, a steel table, and a tray of food that tasted like paste and old paper.I had just finished eating whatever the hell they’d dumped in the bowl this time. Some slop of rice and boiled chicken, no flavor, no salt. just enough to keep me alive. I stared at the spoon as if it would offer answers. Were they worried about me?Was Sage still crying in the professor’s arms? Was the professor... trying to find me?The thought stung worse than anything they’d done to me physically. Not knowing. Wondering if I’d already been mourned. Or worse, forgotten. My fingers tightened around the edge of the table. “Damn it,” I muttered. The door creaked open. And then he walked in.Desmond.

  • The Professor Wants Me and So Does My Bestfriend   Tough choice

SageI ate alone, I tried to but it just didn’t work. My appetite disappeared especially after I asked Amir to join me.He is more afraid of the professor now, after the whole thing with me missing. I grabbed the dishes and stumbled into the kitchen to drop them.I leaned against the counter, deep in thoughts. All my nerves were acting against me and I was drowning in my own worst fears.Something got knocked over and my instincts became alert. I have been having this dreadful feeling ever since I left the school.“Amir?” I asked, wiping my hands on a towel. He didn’t reply. Just stood there, body stiff, like a soldier bracing for impact. That’s when I heard it too, a subtle click. Not loud. But unmistakable. The lock turned. Before I could say another word, the door burst open and chaos spilled into the apartment. Two men came in first, one lunged straight at Amir, the other toward me. I heard the crack of knuckles against Amir’s jaw, watched him stumble backward and slam into the wa

SageI could see the ripples in his expression, fleeting and almost imperceptible, before they disappeared beneath the calm again. He turned fully, adjusting the strap of his satchel as he faced me. “Of course.”I frowned. “You’re not exactly a great liar.”His lips curved slightly at that—just a ghost of a smile. “I’ve been accused of many things, Sage. Being a poor liar isn’t usually one of them.”I stepped closer, lowering my voice. “Then don’t lie. I know something’s going on. You leave the house in the middle of the night without saying anything, You show up after days of silence, you teach like it’s any other day, and now you’re just… brushing it off?”His eyes narrowed slightly. Not in irritation, more like calculation. He always looked like he was trying to read every variable in a room, including the people in it.“I appreciate your concern,” he said, voice low, even. “But there are things I need to handle. Alone.”“Is this about Kaiden?” I asked, without thinking. “Is there

SageI wasn’t stupid. I knew what silence meant.Silence could mean death, it could mean break up, it could mean a number of things but none of them turned out to be good. The professor has been silent ever since we spoke. Yes, I knew I had been acting a little stiff but I just needed time to process. The professor’s silence was never loud, it was soft, programmed and often Calculated. As though silence, to the Professor, was a language more intimate than any declaration could be. But I heard it all the same, heard it in the way he changed the subject, in the way his gaze skirted mine when I asked the question he refused to answer.Do you love me?He never said no. But he never said yes either. And that was its own kind of cruelty.I stood by the window, coffee untouched in my hands, watching the light spill through the glass and stretch across the floor. The morning was quiet, like it knew something I didn’t. I had barely slept. The sheets beside me had gone cold in the night when h

  • The Professor Wants Me and So Does My Bestfriend   Hello again, Valarie.

RiverI had barely shut the car door behind me when I pulled out my phone and dialed Silas. He picked up on the second ring. “Still on him,” he said without needing a greeting. “Our guy just made another drop.”“Anything useful?” I asked, pressing the bridge of my nose with my fingers. He hesitated. “Not really. Same route. Same routine. Nothing we haven’t seen already.”I exhaled slowly. “Keep at it. Stay out of sight. I’ll call you if anything changes.”“Got it.”I hung up and leaned back in the driver’s seat, eyes staring up at the dark sky above my windshield. The stars tonight were faint, barely present as though even they were avoiding this godforsaken story. When I walked through the door of the house, I found Sage in the living room, barefoot, curled on the couch with a blanket wrapped around him. A lamp glowed softly beside him, casting a warm hue over the room, but his face was hard to read. He was more Guarded, Remote, I was beginning to think of the kidnapping had traumati

RiverThe apartment sat in a quiet neighborhood, tucked between sleek fitness studios and overpriced organic cafes. One of those places people passed by without ever really looking at. But I had looked. I had studied. It was an expensive neighborhood, so the people here must be popular or rich. Either way, my mission brought me here. The girl who lived here, Leila Dane, was a name I recognized. Olympic-level track star. Decorated, glorified, worshipped. A walking billboard for the illusion of perfection. She was every young girl’s dream so it was a bit surprising to see that she was on the list. I didn’t see it at first till Silas reminded me.The building’s entrance opened with a soft buzz, and I took the stairs two at a time. I didn’t like elevators. When I reached the door, I knocked twice. Sharp, authoritative. No answer.I knocked again. Louder.I heard the shuffling inside, footsteps hesitating near the entrance, then retreating. I waited. Calm. I had all the time in the world.

RiverThere was something cruel about how bright the morning was, how the sunlight filtered through the curtains like nothing in the world was falling apart. I stood in the silence of my living room, dressed in a clean shirt, eyes locked on the floor as I made the decision I’d been putting off. Today, I was going to the detective. I was going to give him the name.No more dancing around it. No more pretending that time was a luxury we could afford.Sage was still sleeping and after our night, I didn’t want to wake him. He needed the rest.I picked up my coat and slung it over my shoulder when my phone buzzed. Work.“Boss, we need you here. A client just walked in, says he wants to speak to you about a major construction deal. Wouldn’t talk to anyone else.”“Did you try getting him to see the best on the team?”“Yes sir, I did. But he said he would talk to you.”I clenched my jaw. “I’m on my way.”Damn timing.I arrived ten minutes later and everyone was just standing there. The clie

RiverIt wasn’t over.Sage showed no mercy. He lifted himself off me and sat on the edge of the bed. Beside him, I panted heavily; this was, without question, the best sex I’d ever had.I felt drained. Completely wrecked. And oddly enough, refreshed even after just one round. That wasn’t like me.He tapped my arm lightly. “On your feet,” he ordered.I blinked at him, confused. The tone in his voice made it clear he wasn’t done with me, but I didn’t know what else I had to give. I felt like I had nothing left. His lips curled into a smirk as he watched me push myself up, my chest heaving, my cock limp. Wrecked didn’t even begin to cover it.Still, I stood in front of him, legs trembling as I struggled to find my footing. Sage spread his legs open. “You messed me up,” he said, voice low. “Lick me clean.”My mouth parted. I blinked fast. But I’d be an idiot to hesitate. I dropped to my knees, muscles weak. He didn’t wait—he grabbed a fistful of my hair and dragged my face between his t
