AYLA

I watched the birds sing in the morning dew as I stared from my window. For the first time in days since I arrived back at the palace I slept on my bed in my chambers.

There have been no improvement in Slade since the last time, and the healers are working around the clock.

Silvia had to force me out to refresh, but my mind was still on Slade, and the words she had said to me.

“My lady,” I heard a familiar voice, and I smiled.

“Tara,” I got up, and hugged her. “It's been way too long,” I said, and she smiled. I looked to her side to see Fay, and the other maids assigned to me.

“Fay,” I said her name with distaste. I don't know why Damon hasn't removed her from my service, maybe to keep on spying on me. In case I have other plans to disappear.

“I'm at your service, Lady Ayla,” she said, and I scoffed slightly.

I stepped back from the hug and looked Tara over. She looked the same, warm eyes, soft smile, always calm even when the world felt like it was breaking.

AYLA“Okay, now that I have given you want you want, it's time you pay up,” Maria said, but I haven't gotten what I came here for.“It doesn't make sense,” I said out loud.“What doesn't?” Riven asked me.“This,” I dropped the documents on the table, and ran my fingers through my hair.Maria stormed her feet, as she walked in a semi circle. “You finally have what you came for, and it doesn't make sense…”“Yeah, according to what my mother told me. Ivy isn't the Queen's daughter,” I said, and they both looked at me confused.“Your mother?” “I thought she was dead?” They both asked at the same time.I raised my hands up, trying to explain to them. “She is dead, but she came to me, In my dreams.”“And she said the Queen isn't Ivy's mother,” I could hear the sarcasm in Maria's voice. “No offense to your dead mother, but I'll take the Queen's everyday because there is evidence to back it up.”“What if the evidence was a plant?” Riven asked, and I looked at him surprised.“I'm not just a s

AYLA“What was that?” Riven asked as I turned towards them. Everyone in the vicinity of the palace gates, including the guards all stared at me. “What was what?” I asked, unsure of what he meant. “You made a movement with your hands. What was it?” he asked again, and I brought my fingers together. “It’s nothing,” I said, trying to move on from his questions. “So, how do you want to play this?” Maria asked me, and I looked at her strangely. She can expect us to sneak into the secret library right now. “What do you mean?” I asked, holding onto my head. I don’t know what was done to me by the head Seer, but I could still feel it.“If I'm caught walking the walls of the palace, I will be sent to the tombs. And I’m sure you don’t want that,” she said sarcastically. “What can we do about that?” Riven asked, and I sighed deeply.“Well, she is the all powerful wolf, right. She can do it,” Maria pointed at me, and I scoffed.“You can make yourself invisible. This should be a walk in a pa

AYLA“It's not safe to be here,” Riven said to me as we walked through the streets of Mercia, looking for the bar the locator spell showed me.“Why's that?” I asked him, adjusting the vein over my head.“This place is called the badlands. People outside from the palace are crowded here,” he said to me.“Then why is Maria here, she is a lady of the Queen,” I said to him.“She was probably ousted, or looking for someone who is,” I sighed. Whatever Maria is doing here, it's probably the former. Maybe Damon finally found out she was the one behind the potions not me.“We are here,” I said, and Riven stood in front of me.“If things get rough in there, I might not be able to protect you,” he said, and I shook my head.“I think I have shown I can protect myself,” I said to him.“One battle doesn't prove that,” he scolded like friends do.I rolled my eyes but didn’t argue. Riven meant well, even if he was being overprotective. The bar looked worn down from the outside, with cracks in the woo

AYLAI felt a movement underneath my palm, and my head jerked up. He moved, it's been four days since he has been laying lifeless on this bed but he moved.“Help!” I yelled, “he is moving,” I couldn't contain my joy. The healers rushed into the room at the sound of my voice and checked on him. Silvia rushed in as well, holding me to prevent me from falling.“What's going on?” I asked when the countenance of the healer didn't change.“He didn't move, my lady,” one of them said, and I scoffed. “He did,” I tried moving closer to him but I was stopped.“His condition still remains the same. Nothing has changed,” I rushed to Slade's side, and held his hand.“I believe in you,” I said with tears gathering in my eyes. “Show them what I believe in,” I held his hands up for them to see, but he didn't move.“I'm sorry, you felt what you wanted to feel,” the healer said, and they all walked out.“I felt him move his hands, Silvia,” I said to her after a while. “I know,” she moved closer to me,

AYLAThe sound of the helicopter blades echoed in my ears, loud and constant. The wind inside the cabin whipped against my face, but I barely felt it. All I could do was stare at Slade. He lay motionless on a gurney beside me, his chest rising and falling too slowly. His skin was pale, almost gray. The straps around him held his body steady, but nothing could hold back the fear crushing my chest. His eyes didn’t open. He hadn’t moved since the hemorrhaging.Silvia sat across from me, her hand gently wrapped around mine. Her grip was warm, grounding. She was shaking too, though she tried to hide it.“He’s going to be okay,” she said softly, her eyes locking with mine. “He’s strong, Ayla. Stronger than anyone I know.”I nodded, but I didn’t believe it. Not yet. Not when he looked like this.Damon sat near the cockpit, tense, staring straight ahead. One hand rested on his sword, like he didn’t know how to relax, even now. Riven was beside him, blood still staining his armor, jaw tight, e
