Chapter 2

Author: Stars
Simon did not come home for the next few days. He said that Xandra was unwell and that he had to take care of her.

In the past, he had cared for me meticulously as he did with Xandra now. During our three years of marriage, I had always believed he loved me. But that was until Xandra returned, carrying another man's pup.

He gave all the love that once belonged to me to Xandra and treated me with increased indifference. As my disappointment in him accumulated, my love for him completely faded away.

I picked up my phone, hoping to scroll through social media to relax my mood a little. But the moment the screen lit up, I was greeted with waves of negative news that threatened to engulf me.

The hottest search topic was none other than, "Luna Kaylee Cheats and Gets Pregnant with Another Man's Pup."

The comments beneath condemned me mercilessly.

"How kind of Alpha Simon to even allow Kaylee to keep the bastard pup."

"I heard he's throwing her a birthday celebration. If you ask me, I think she doesn't deserve that kind of attention from him."

The Internet was in an uproar, and everyone was accusing me of having an affair.

I turned off my phone and let out a self-deprecating chuckle.

So, this was what Simon wanted. To shield Xandra from gossip, he made me and my pup the scapegoats instead. I could endure it, but I would never allow my pup to be slandered.

I called Simon and told him to have the news removed, but he responded stoically, "I was the one who contacted the media to release the article. After all, the act needs to be convincing. You just need to put up with it a little longer.

"I don't have time to listen to your fussing, Kaylee. Xandra's stomach hurts. I need to take her to the hospital."

As his words fell, he hung up right away.

I was through with him.

If Xandra was the one who had to put up with all the gossip, he thought she was pitiful. But when I was the one who had to face all the condemnation, I was making a fuss and being dramatic.

Since he did not care about this pup, he should not expect to keep it. I picked up my phone and called the hospital to schedule an abortion.

A few days later, Simon came back. He brought Xandra with him.

The first thing he did when he saw me was bark orders. "Clean up your room and let Xandra stay in there. Go and sleep in the guest room for a few days."

Xandra rubbed her belly and smiled. "Simon said that after I give birth, he will help me raise the pup. Since we'll be living together, you won't mind, right?"

Seeing that I remained unmoved, Simon spoke more sternly. "Kaylee, this is not the time for childish tantrums. Xandra is sick and weak. She needs a warm room."

Only then did I speak up solemnly. "You care a great deal for her pup, but what about our pup?"

Simon paused for a moment before saying, "You're different. You're strong and can handle everything yourself. Xandra is a fragile Omega. She needs special care."

I felt a prickling sensation in my nose as tears welled up. He seemed to have forgotten that I had left my home to come to his pack just to be with him. He was the only one I could count on for support here.

Nevertheless, I did not say anything. I simply went into my room and quietly began to pack my things.

When I came out, I saw Simon ending a call with an ashen face.

He turned and asked, "Why did the hospital just call to inform me that you scheduled an abortion? Kaylee, I love you so much. How could you be so cruel as to kill our pup?"

Simon was very upset and emotionally unstable.

I said coldly, "Do you really love me? I think the one you love is Xandra."

Simon wanted to say something, but Xandra interrupted. "Oh my, Kaylee. Are you putting on a show because you're jealous? You treasure your pup so much. Would you ever try to abort it for real?"

Upon hearing Xandra's words, Simon immediately stopped worrying. "That's right. You love me so much. How could you abort our pup? I know you're just saying this to get my attention. You're the Luna, Kaylee. How can you be so petty?"

I said nothing and carried my luggage to the guest room.

The guest room had no heating. That night, I curled up miserably under the blanket, shivering from the cold.

Simon pushed the door open, and I felt the empty space on the mattress behind me dip.

"Don't worry, Kaylee. When this is over, I'll make Xandra leave. I'll explain everything and clear your name when the time comes," Simon said, stroking my hair like he was comforting a wounded kitten.

I kept my eyes tightly shut. My hand that was hidden under the blanket clenched into a fist.

"Kaylee, I really love you." Simon hugged me from behind, his warm body enclosing me completely.

But the rare moment of calm did not last long because Xandra suddenly screamed from the next room.

"Ah! Help, Simon! I cut my finger, and it's bleeding a lot!"

The man who had just sworn his love to me a moment ago let go of me instantly and rushed out to check on Xandra.

In the dark guest room, I listened to Xandra's coquettish blabber and Simon's gentle comforting coming from next door. Once again, I felt my heart grow cold.

A month before our marking ceremony, Zachariah busied himself with every little thing related to our big day. He personally saw to everything from the arrangements to the schedule. He told me that all I needed to do was look beautiful and stun everyone on the day of the ceremony. We had chosen the Moonlight Altar, which was the most romantic place in the entire pack, to do our marking. On the day of the event, a joyful atmosphere settled upon the whole pack. Just as I was about to enter the altar, I noticed a familiar figure in the corner. Simon looked weathered and aged, like an old man. He hid in a dark corner and watched me in secret. The moment our eyes met, he quickly lowered his head. He seemed afraid that I would see him in such a sorry state."What are you looking at? The ceremony is about to begin," Zachariah said, taking my arm.I withdrew my gaze and said with a soft laugh, "It's nothing. It was just someone insignificant."With the Moon Goddess as our witness, we co

During the days Zachariah stayed in our pack, I was the one who showed him around and accompanied him. We walked along the beach and collected seashells in the glow of the sunset. We were both aware of each other's feelings. However, I had just ended a failed marriage and wasn't ready to start a new relationship yet.Zachariah confessed his feelings first. "Actually, I adored you from the moment I first saw you. I'll be leaving in a few days, and I hope to hear your answer before I go."I hesitated. After I spent some time with Zachariah, he had proven himself to be a gentle yet strong man. He was truly the kind of man a woman could depend on for life. Nevertheless, I still felt wary.My silence caused a flicker of disappointment to appear in his eyes. "That's all right. I'll wait until you're ready."I nodded appreciatively. But in the next second, my expression stiffened. It was because I saw someone I did not want to see."Kaylee, you never replied to my letters. So, I've com

"There's no way we will ever get back together. Don't bother me anymore. Go back to Xandra. Let's each live our own lives in peace," I said plainly.Simon hurried to explain, "I've already driven Xandra out. She will never disturb us or come between us again. I've also come clean with everyone that Xandra's pup is the real bastard. Please trust me one last time."He looked at me pitifully as if he were the most innocent victim. Anyone passing by would think that I was the unreasonable one, making things hard for him. When Dad saw that my words didn't seem to be getting through to Simon, he lost his patience. He lashed out and slapped Simon hard across the face. The force sent him staggering back by a considerable distance."If you dare to harass Kaylee again, I won't hold back!" Dad warned, standing in front of me like a towering wall, his presence fierce and unyielding.Simon slowly got to his feet and cast me a yearning look which indicated that he was highly reluctant to leave.

As soon as I stepped off the plane, I felt dizzy. Having just undergone an abortion and taken the potion, my body was extremely weak. The scene before my eyes grew increasingly blurry until everything went dark. When I regained my consciousness, the first thing I saw was my mother's eyes that had become absolutely swollen from excessive crying.Mom was sobbing uncontrollably. "You're my precious daughter, Kaylee. I've only ever spoiled you. How did you become so thin and frail after getting married for just a few years?"Dad punched the hospital wall in rage. "How dare that bastard hurt my daughter. I will never let Simon get away with this!"I slowly opened my eyes and whispered, "Dad… Mom."Upon hearing my voice, Mom hastily wiped away her tears and gently stroked my head. She said with relief, "My poor Kaylee, you're finally awake."I forced a weak smile.Mom said softly, "Don't be afraid, sweetie. Your Dad and I will always have your back. If Simon dares to hurt you again,

Simon ran to the hospital as fast as he could. But no matter where he searched, he could not find any trace of me. He fumbled for his phone and frantically called my number. He dialed my number countless times, but my phone was off.He questioned every doctor in the hospital, desperate for an answer. Finally, a young nurse on duty told him she had seen me undergo an abortion and then leave the hospital hurriedly. She informed him that my complexion had been exceptionally pale too.Upon hearing this, Simon's entire body went rigid. "No… This is impossible! She loves me so much! She wouldn't abort our pup so mercilessly. You must be lying to me. Kaylee must have told you to say this, didn't she? She's hiding somewhere and watching me make a fool of myself!"His eyes were bloodshot as he shouted at the trembling nurse, "Where did Kaylee go? Tell me!"The frightened nurse stammered, "I-If you don't believe me, we have records here. Check the register and you'll know whether Luna Kaylee

It was nearly dawn by the time I reached the hospital.Just then, Simon called. His voice was noticeably anxious as he asked, "Kaylee, I see you've booked a long-distance flight. Where are you going?"I pondered for a moment and decided that it was best to inform him about my departure since we were husband and wife, after all. "I'm leaving. Don't bother looking for me. We don't have to see each other again," I said.Simon sounded flustered as he kept asking me where I was going. I didn't answer, but from the other end of the line came Xandra's voice. She complained, "I don't feel well, Simon. I'm not sure if it will affect the pup or not. Hurry and take me to the hospital."Simon firmly believed that I loved him way too much to abandon him for real. He assumed that I was merely throwing a tantrum. After a moment of silence, he said, "Xandra is in critical condition. Go home first. I'll talk to you tonight when I get home."I ignored him. After hanging up, I walked into th
