Uncle Seb's Call

Carolina had bloodshot eyes and her face was puffy from crying. She wore her hair in a messy bun and there were dried tear tracks on her cheekbones.

She laid down on the mattress lost in deep thought. How would her life be with the Alpha?

She didn't love him and certainly did not feel any connection with him.

Except for the first attraction she had felt for him which later turned to hatred when she realized that he was her captor. She had contemplated trying to run away but it wouldn't work.

Alpha Connor had so many connections in LA. The only way she could get out of his reach was if she booked a flight out of California. That was if she was able to disguise herself so well.

Even if she did that, she didn't have any money on her, also her whole life was here.

If she succeeded in leaving, where would she start from? She had no one else. All her life was in LA.

She was between the devil and the deep blue sea. She imagined how life would be with a total stranger.

Her father had caused all these to happen. If only he had learned his lesson. She hated him for ruining her life this way.

She sat up on the bed and wiped her tears away as a thought occurred to her. Why didn't she think of this before? It was the perfect way to escape staying with her father.

She would be able to think with a clear head and possibly renegotiate with the Alpha. Only one person could help her with all of this. She could seek refuge at her uncle's house until the issue died down.

A small smile twitched on her lips and for the first time that day, she felt a flicker of hope surge through her veins.

'I will go stay with Uncle Seb until this is all over. I can't allow my life to end like this.' She concluded, reaching to pick up her phone by her side on the bed.

Just then her phone chirped and a familiar name popped up on its screen. It was her uncle. Carolina accepted the call immediately. Perfect timing.

"Uncle Seb, good evening. I was just about to call you." She sounded relieved.

"Hi Caro, how are you?" His tone was flat.

Carolina noticed but ignored it. She had more pressing matters at hand. She would come back to that later.

"I am not fine but I will tell you all about it when I get there. I am in trouble and only you can save me." She confided in him.

"Caro…"

"I need somewhere to stay for some days. I just have to leave here as soon as possible. I promise I will explain to you as soon as I get there." She vowed.

"Caro…"

"I won't stay for too long. It's just for some days. I just…"

"Carolina, listen to me." Her uncle interrupted her.

"What is it, uncle?"

She noticed his tone but had thought he was dealing with his wife, whom she nicknamed Medusa because of her cruel nature. However, this was different.

"You can't come here, I am sorry." Her uncle said after a few seconds of silence.

Carolina adjusted on the bed. Her uncle had never rejected her. He had taken good care of her since her mother's death.

"I don't understand, uncle. What is going on?"

Her mind raced while she waited for him to speak again. He was her last and only option. If he rejected her, she didn't have anywhere else to run to.

"You know, it'll be better to just do as he commanded you to do. Absconding might incur his wrath. I'm sure you don't want that."

Her uncle was making cryptic statements and she couldn't understand. Who was he speaking about?

"Speak in clear terms, uncle Seb. I don't understand. Who are you talking about?" She was confused.

Silence.

"Where are all these coming from? Why now?"

Even though she was confused, she suspected foul play and hoped that her worst fears were not true.

"I don't want to cross the path of Alpha Connor.

Everyone in California knows how ruthless he can be. The last thing I want is to incur his wrath. Please, Carolina, do as he wishes." Sebastian pleaded with her.

"How?"

" How did you know? I just got to know this afternoon and you know already which means someone told you about it. Who?" She inquired.

"All that doesn't matter, Carolina. All that matters is that you obey his commands. I cannot do anything for you again. I'm sorry."

"Again?" She was puzzled.

That statement meant something else. She could hear the tremor in his voice as he spoke. Although her uncle was a brave man, in California, no one dared cross Connor's path.

But this was different, it sounded as if he was bidding her farewell.

"What's going on? The more you speak, the more I get confused." She sighed.

"I really don't want to do this but I am left with no choice, Caro. I'm sorry I can't pay your school fees anymore." Sebastian finally said.

"What?"

Her voice was hoarse from crying. For a moment she thought her ears were playing tricks on her but it was real because her Uncle continued to speak.

"I have to think of my family too. I can't afford to be on Alpha Connor's bad side. Good luck Carolina." Her uncle hung up.

Her eyes watered with fresh tears as the phone fell off her hands onto the bed. Carolina curled into a ball and broke into tears uncontrollably.

This was the end. Her father had finally ended her life. She was left with no choice but to move over to his house. She heard a knock on her door.

"It's time for dinner, Caro. Let us eat." Her father's familiar voice invited her.

Anger and disgust roiled in her when she heard him speak.

"Get out! I hate you!"
