Maverick POV

I was knuckles deep inside my mate. Her juices were all over my hand, branding me as hers.

I swear whatever’s making that sound will lose every limb it has. I don’t care what it is!

I tried not to growl or look annoyed. I didn’t want her to worry. The whole point of tonight was to get her mind off things

“Wait here, Wildcat. I’ll check it out.”

She sat up.

“I’ll be right back, Odessa.”

“But—”

“I love having my trusty omega by my side, but I think I can handle a squirrel.”

“Are you sure? You’re so scared of heights that the squirrel might use that to its advantage and come at you from the sky.”

“Very funny, Odessa.” I hurled a pillow at her.

I darted out of the bedroom, knowing I had ten seconds before she got dressed and followed me.

The second I got downstairs, I caught a blend of wolf scents.

“Damn it.”

I walked out of the front door. The scent was stronger.

“A group of she-wolves,” I murmured.

It was a Thursday night, there’s no reason for them to be roaming around her

  • The Quarterback's Omega Mate   Chapter 136

Odessa POVThe day went by like a snail trying to cross the road. Having to go through it felt like a punishment. Ryder was the only casualty from the incident.Brandon was still in the wind. We had a wonderful ceremony for Ryder. The whole pack showed up except the one man who needed to be there. His sister flew back home just to say goodbye to her brother.Watching her break down in her mother’s arms was devastating.Ryder’s mother didn’t want people coming back to her house after the burial was over. People had their opinions about that, but the poor woman lost her son and her husband. I could imagine she didn’t want a lot of people around her for a second longer. The Daciana Devils invited people back to the stadium for refreshments and to celebrate the life of their captain. The invite extended to the Wildcats in a rare form of solidarity.I went because I worked there. Maverick had to attend, too, since he was the Alpha.“This team’s never going to be the same,” Callie commented

Maverick POV“Everyone get out!” I yelled.Panic broke out. Everyone abandoned their food or drinks.“Cover your noses!”The bitter smell attacked my nostrils and threatened to close up my throat. I battled against it all. My mate had passed out in my arms.I got her outside and placed her on the ground. My backup just arrived.“What happened?” Storm demanded.“Brandon was receiving another delivery of the chemical weapon. They unleashed it in the alley. Rex better have found a cure.”“He’s in his way,” Storm replied.“Get Alto. He’s not leaving this pack!” I ordered.Gage and Storm darted off. The betas from the army ensured the civilians were okay.I breathed into Odessa’s mouth, trying to revive her. She’d been weak when we came here. She only inhaled seconds of the gas.“Wake up, babe. We’ve got so much to do.”I pumped her chest. Damn it, she wasn’t moving.“You can’t leave me, Odessa!”She jerked forward and coughed.“Get off me,” she mumbled.I breathed a sigh of relief. “You g

  • The Quarterback's Omega Mate   Chapter 134

Odessa POV“The way you handled Gavin was so hot. Don’t stress, you handled an Alpha wolf. A little doctor shouldn’t scare you.” Maverick said as he planted kisses on my lips.I lay on a stiff hospital bed waiting for my first doctor consultation before I start my treatments. Maverick drove us here after leaving the pack house. It felt too soon to be back here. It wasn’t that long ago when I’d been probed and made to do every test possible.“Miss Sloane, nice to have you back so soon!” Doctor Mason beamed. At least he was happy to see me.“Alpha Maverick, good to have you here, too. It’s best to start the treatment as soon as possible.” Maverick took my hand and squeezed it.“Do you have any questions, Miss Sloane?”I nodded. “How long will treatment last?”“A couple of months. After two months, I hope to see significant progress.”“Will this affect our mating ceremony?” Maverick asked.Doctor Mason held his clipboard tightly to his chest. “It all depends on how she’s feeling at the

Odessa POV“Uh… you brought Odessa. How’s your mother? I heard she married a fat cow.”“Don’t talk about her,” I snapped, but my voice was shaky. The scar on his face and his eye were a constant reminder of my kidnapping. If he hadn’t shown up, I would have been fine.Meadow pushed small doses of venom to my fingertips.I pushed her away. I can’t do that.Maverick’s jaw connected with Gavin’s jaw.I gasped. “Mav!”He rubbed his knuckles. “He was asking for it.”Gavin was chained to a chair. I could tell by the cuts on his forehead and neck area that he had taken a beating. However, wolves had really good healing powers.“Why did you bring her then?” He growled.“I’m not your toy. Where are the other chemicals?” I demanded.“I’m not a snitch,” he spat.“You’re going to wish you were,” Maverick growled.Gavin straightened his spine and raised his chin. “It was never personal, Maverick, now it is. I’m going to destroy you, and I’m going to keep your mate. After all, I saw her first!”Mav

  • The Quarterback's Omega Mate   Chapter 132

Odessa POV“Don’t go to work today,” Maverick murmured.“Are you going to stay in bed with me?” I whispered into his chest. He formed little circles on my back with his fingers. “I’d love nothing more. Gavin’s locked up in the pack house. Gage gave him one hell of a beating. Which sucks because it means I have to go easy on him.”I swallowed the lump which formed in my throat. Maverick felt me stiffen and pulled me closer.“He won’t get to you, Wildcat. He’s not getting out.”“Have you spoken to him since?” My voice cracked.“I haven’t.”“I want to speak to him.”“What?” He said up instantly. “No, no way. I won’t allow that.”“I understand—”“Do you?”I sighed. “Gavin took something from me when he kidnapped me and when he reappeared. I want to feel brave.”“You’re so fucking brave.” He cupped my cheeks. “You saved my life remember?”I laughed. “What are you on about?”“You bit that wolf’s leg when that group attacked me at the Daisy Den.”“I did not save your life then! Were you even

  • The Quarterback's Omega Mate   Chapter 131

Odessa POV“Gross,” I winced. The bitter taste remained on my tongue long after the liquid burned my throat. I couldn’t finish it. Despite my knowledge of herbs, the mixture I made was beyond disgusting.I gagged and set the bowl down.I was desperate enough to drink this stuff in the open, where any pack member could see me and accuse me of witchcraft again!“This is pointless,” I sobbed. “Nothing’s going to fix me.”No amount of herbs is going to fix my broken wolf.Meadow retreated into a dark corner of my mind. Which was not helping. The doctor told me about this intense treatment I needed to get on, which might get rid of the disease, but the effects might be permanent. It’s something I’ve been living with my whole life.It could be why my wolf never progressed beyond omega. What if that’s permanent, too?I’ve always
