Freya's POV:

“Sophie, I'm so sorry about it,” I said immediately we got into the room.

She didn't utter a word around and just kept pacing around, making me anxious. The only thing I could do was play with my dress.

“Why did you go there?” The glare she threw my way made me shrink back.

“I…” there was no excuse I could give.

I knew that I wasn't supposed to be there so I couldn't feign ignorance. It might even annoy her more.

“Duncan needs to hear about this,” she muttered to herself.

My eyes went wide, not knowing how to react. It felt like a good thing but I couldn't shake off the feeling.

I didn't say a word and watched her bring out a cellphone which left me a bit shocked. I would have probably asked her questions about where she got one if the situation was different.

“Duncan, I'm bringing your mate to you,” she said the moment he picked up.

She didn't wait for him to say a word before she ended it and turned to me. My back straightened immediately and I kept my hands folded in front of me.

“Let's go.”

She didn't wait to see if I was following before she stepped out. I was taken aback at first when I stepped out and saw how busy the hallway was.

That was when I remembered Sophie's words earlier about a ceremony.

“Come here,” she said after walking a few rooms away from mine.

I didn't want to believe that it was what I was thinking.

Just like I feared, Sophie opened the door and there was Duncan sitting on the bed.

I stood at the entrance in shock as I stared at him. He made sure not to look me in the eyes.

I knew that he was avoiding me but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad.

“I don't want her out of your sight during the ceremony,” his sister instructed and stepped out without wasting time.

She stared at me for a moment and gave me a little glare that made me want the ground to swallow me.

“Behave,” she said and with that, she shut the door behind me.

The room fell into silence with the moving window as the only source of tension relief.

A part of me was annoyed but I didn't know if I had the right to be.

“You said something so crazy out of nowhere then disappeared,” I finally broke the silence when it seemed like he wasn't going to utter a word.

Duncan bowed his head then ran his hand through it. It seemed like I wasn't getting any reply soon.

“What was I supposed to do?” His voice sounded strained.

For a second, I thought he was in pain until he raised his head. He looked as if he was in an emotional torture or maybe it was a mental one.

“Explain things to me because I deserve to know,” I said, stepping a bit closer to him.

I had not noticed but I missed being around the carefree version of me that I've met rarely.

“Did you know before you sold me out?”

He narrowed his eyes at me and said, “The fuck! Of course not.”

He was obviously offended by that but it seemed like something he could do.

I shrugged and sat on the vanity stool which was opposite him. He didn't seem to like it and subtly turned away from me.

I asked the first thing that came to my mind, “Do you find me disgusting?”

My voice came out so low that I wasn't sure if he had heard me until he turned to me with a glare.

“What do you think I am?”

I let out a scoff and started to rant about how I felt. “You said something so shocking and decided to avoid me even though you were just few rooms away and you were the same person who sold me off and now you don't even want to look me in the-

“Freya,” he cut me off so sharply that I suddenly remembered the status difference.

“It's because everything is hard on me and it's a lot for me to take. I just want to sort out how I feel first before I involve you,” he continued so softly that my shoulder relaxed.

“Don't you think how I feel also matters?"

I didn't know where all these words were coming from but then again, I've been through a lot because of him and Lucien.

“I swear to the moon goddess, it matters but it's just so overwhelming at the moment,” he said, looking me in the eyes for the first time.

His eyes seemed to hold so many emotions that I couldn't say a word and got carried away by them.

Duncan soon broke eye contact and cleared his throat. The room felt so heavy but it wasn't suffocating.

“What do you want me to tell you?” He sounded so much like his brother with that line that it took me aback for a second.

“You have a hamster,” I mentioned and his eyes widened.

Duncan shook his head and let out a deep chuckle that I found really attractive to the extent I took a gulp of saliva just to remain calm.

“That explains why Sophie sent you here.”

I etched my brows and asked, “Why aren't you pissed about it like she is?

“She isn't pissed, trust me,” he said breathily, looking amused.

The look on my face revealed the fact that I didn't believe him one bit.

“She just doesn't want you to turn yourself into an outcast in case…” he trailed off and shook his head.

The pent-up frustration I felt suddenly came back due to his actions so I stood up abruptly.

“Can't you just be truthful with me for once?”

Duncan gave me an apologetic look but that was it, he didn't continue with what he was about to say.

“Complete it,” I commanded and he looked equally surprised as I was.

For a moment, I had forgotten that I was nothing more than a kitchen slave and when the realisation dawned on me, I lowered my shoulders.

“She doesn't want you to be an outcast in case I make you my mate… officially,” he obeyed with a smile.

I nodded slowly, having no idea about what to say since everything suddenly seemed awkward.

“Do you have any plans on doing that?” I asked him, setting myself up.

I knew what the answer would be but when he said it, it still stabbed me deep in the heart.

“Freya, let's not talk about it.”

Duncan was indeed attractive but I couldn't say I was in love with him so why was I feeling teary?

I looked away from him and took a deep breath before I nodded. It was clear that I was nothing more than a tool to pass time.

And now that they knew that I would ask for more, they were both staying away from me.

“Okay then,” I said, my voice betraying my expressionless face.

“Freya..” Duncan started but I talked before he could.

“You two suddenly take me away from my world and throw me into this one that-

“We're trying to help you,” Duncan interrupted me. He sounded like he was on the verge of blowing up.

I looked at him for a while, trying to understand what he meant but I couldn't… or maybe I just didn't want to.

“What do you mean?” I asked him slowly, not liking where this conversation was headed.

Duncan gave me a sad smile and confirmed what I never expected to be my biggest fear.

“We're trying to send you back to your world.”

He clearly saw what I had done with Lucien the other day.I wanted to tell him that I wasn't promiscuous, but the words refused to come out.“If you say so,” he said.I should have been relieved that he dropped it, but it didn't sit right with me. I pressed my hands against my knees to stay quiet. It didn't work. “It's not what you're thinking.”Duncan's eyes stayed on me as he played with his lips. I couldn't keep up anymore with the deafening silence and looked away.“What do you think is going on in my head?” he asked and I froze. His face was blank, so trying to figure out what he was thinking was useless.“That I'm promiscuous,” I muttered in barely a whisper.I looked away when his expression didn't ch

Freya's POV:The ceremony started once the sun set and the moon rose. It was a full moon and from what Sopgie had told me they held this ceremony whenever there was a full moon.“Sit here and don't move around unnecessarily,” Sophie had instructed before she joined the procession.I was currently obeying her instruction although I was getting weird glances. At first I wondered why until I realised that all slaves sat behind. I wanted to move but for some reason, it felt like Sophie had her eyes on me from where she was seated.“Who gather here to worship the loon goddess,” the Alpha started. He seemed to have a limp that wasn't obvious if he didn't move around a lot.The elders were right behind him while the Alpha's family sat in front.I didn't recognise any other person apart from Duncan and Sophie. Bruno wasn't here.It was as if he didn't exist and everyone seemed to find it normal.I had waited for one of the side gossips but it never came. “We worship her for giving us victo

Freya's POV:We're trying to send you back to your world. My heart went still at that moment as I stared at him blankly.“W-what do you mean by that?” I finally croaked out, talking a large gulp of nothing.Duncan sat forward, his brows etched as he looked conflicted.I was supposed to be happy so why wasn't I? This was literally the best time to leave this fucked up place.“Freya…” he started but trailed off.I watched him rub his hand over his face, waiting for his response. “Things are going to get really awful here and you might lose your life,” he finally said, looking me straight in the eyes.I clenched my hands resting on my thighs to maintain composure.“And things might turn out good if you and Lord Lucien stop hiding things from me,” I muttered.I could feel my eyes wavering so I looked away, staring at the door.I heard Duncan let out a deep sigh and some shuffling. Within a minute, he was standing right in front of meI went still with my eyes wide open. This was the firs

If no one knew her, she would pass as my sister. She bowed her head as if covered in shame and picked on her finger. My hands that were on the cell gate shook violently.“I'm going to kill him,” I said with anger, my eyes refusing to stay in one place. Her skin wasn't only fresh but also had red spots from the sunlight. I knew that was painful because it took a while for me to get used to my new life.“Lucien, wait.” Her fragile hand held me down and even though I could have pulled away, I didn't. My heart ached for who she was now because I knew the repercussions. “Why are you stopping me from tearing him apart?” I asked with a sigh, refusing to look at her.She tugged on my shirt but I stayed still. I could have stopped this if I confronted him earlier. The pain I felt made my lungs lock up and I couldn'

We were still connected.“Duncan?” I called.I had an idea of what the silence meant but I still wanted him to admit it.“I really don't know,” he said with a distressed tone.I was relieved but pissed at the same time. I knew better than to show it because I wasn't any better than him.“Why?” He has been avoiding her the same way I've been doing. My eyes drifted to the pass once more and I let out a sigh at the same time Duncan did the same.“You have the pass, don't you?” It wasn't a surprise that he had caught on but that didn't mean I was going to admit it.The door to my study opened and I glanced up, my heart falling immediate
