Chapter 5

Author: Morning Search
It took a long time before I finally came back to my senses.

Most of the left side of my body was scraped raw from the ground. The pain, mixed with sweat, drilled straight into my flesh.

However, what was strange was that the car that had just exploded was now standing there intact.

Only the half-open door reminded me that everything had been real, that I had jumped out of it myself.

I clenched my fist, then loosened it.

My girlfriend’s words, “You’ll die,” kept echoing in my mind.

Was it my life, or taking one last gamble for my ideals?

My answer had never changed.

Thinking of that, I immediately called Grayson over to help me with some quick bandaging. Then, despite his attempts to stop me, I limped my way to the hotel.

10.50 p.m.

The organizer’s room was brightly lit, and excited shouts from a card game could be heard inside.

After listening for a moment, I confirmed that Jasper was in there as well.

Had the organizer leaked my data to him?

Only the first time had my car gone through their inspection, though. What about the second and third times?

Thinking further was pointless. I made a decision and knocked on the door.

Seven or eight knocks later, there was still no response.

They didn’t answer calls either.

Left with no choice, I went straight to Jasper’s comment section and called him out publicly.

[Jasper, you changed one set of data three times. Which backer is protecting you this hard? You might as well just ask the organizer to hand you the trophy.]

The internet exploded instantly.

Even though the posts were deleted quickly, screenshots spread everywhere.

But my question wasn’t taken seriously at all. Instead, it was turned into all kinds of memes and circulated widely.

[So you finally realized you’re worse and got anxious? Totally cracked.]

[This guy is hilarious. I’ve never seen someone rush so hard to become a clown. Look, does Jasper even acknowledge you?]

I ignored all of it because the door in front of me finally opened.

The organizer held a laptop, smiling politely. “Jasper only submitted his data once, on the first day of the competition.

“As for you, you’ve taken so long without producing anything. Have you run out of ideas? It’s fine. Go back and practice more. There will be chances in the future.”

Every word he said was immediately uploaded online by Jasper.

Watching the comments scroll past, I knew I truly had nowhere left to retreat.

Fortunately, I had records of every data change.

I immediately pulled out the photos and handed them to the organizer.

He only glanced at them before laughing.

“Three screenshots of a website under maintenance, and that’s your evidence for slandering Jasper?”

Jasper stood there with a confident, assured smile. At some point, he had turned on a livestream, the camera pointed straight at me.

“Finn, are you under too much pressure?

“But accusing me like this won’t make you feel any better, will it?”

I stared at the screen in disbelief.

There really was only a single line: Website under maintenance.

A chill ran down my spine.

I quickly entered his livestream, hoping some quick-handed fans had saved screenshots from earlier.

But there was nothing, only insults.

[Desperate to win? Looks like a plagiarist who couldn’t copy the data in time and started blaming others.]

[This guy is still living in the Stone Age. I can’t believe I used to like him for his skills. Turns out it was probably all hype. Refund!]

[What’s with all that blood on him? Don’t tell me he just started training now?]

My hands trembled so badly that I could barely hold my phone.

However, in their eyes, that only became proof of guilt, and the insults rained down even harder.

The more you tried to hide, the more suspicious you looked.

So I didn’t back down.

I stared straight at the organizer and demanded an explanation. “What can Jasper give you that you’d even crash the website just to protect him? What everyone wants is a fair race!”

At that moment, Jasper smiled considerately.

“Since you insist on thinking this way, why don’t we just wait for the website to be fixed and let everyone see the truth for themselves?”

I couldn’t tell what he was plotting. I ignored him and kept my eyes locked on the organizer.

“All set!”

A technician suddenly walked over with a laptop and turned the screen toward me.

The data Jasper had submitted was unmistakably my latest version!

Due to the unexpected events, the race schedule was delayed by two months.During that time, I built an even superior car.Thinking back to everything Jasper had done before, I laughed and uploaded all the previous car’s data online without holding back. Those with time and money could naturally follow my guides to build top‑tier racing machines.Occasionally, I even held giveaways and sent out cars that I had personally built.Just like that, two months passed. The organizer begged me for the full two months. “If you don’t participate, we’ll keep delaying the event until you’re ready!”I wasn’t the type to take pleasure in torturing people, so I finally agreed to return to the track. The result was almost inevitable. As I drove to the finish line, far ahead of everyone else, I opened the car door and let the wind hit my face. This was everything I had ever chased. The new female host ran up to me, excitement written all over her face, ready to ask about my thoughts on the r

A black car was carried onto the track. The moment it appeared, the venue erupted. They had been forced to stare at my car all night long. By now, they probably knew exactly how many specks of dust were on it. At a glance, everyone recognized that it was mine.“But these people are Jasper’s pit crew. They’d never go get Finn’s car.”“This is Finn’s car, though! There’s a one‑centimeter gold scratch on the right tire. I even commented yesterday on how rich Finn must be!”A sharp‑minded fan immediately thought of something.“Didn’t Finn remove two parts yesterday?”“Open the car and check. We’ll know right away.”I smiled at Jasper.‘How does it feel, being unable to defend yourself?’Jasper’s entire body began to tremble violently. He looked like someone who’d lost too much blood, his eyes unfocused. His lips moved slightly, but no one could hear what he was saying. The host reacted quickly and shoved the microphone toward him.“Finn… I’ll kill you…”A weak groan echoed th

Jasper glared at me viciously before finally turning and leaving. That night, I slept soundly, solid and undisturbed. When I opened my eyes again, I grabbed my phone. It had been charging all night and was hot to the touch as I headed straight for the track.I was already an hour late.Yet the race still hadn’t begun. The air carried a stiff, uneasy tension. The moment I appeared, the host finally seemed relieved. He waved excitedly, but the first thing out of his mouth was an accusation.“Why did you destroy your own car?”“Are you done?” My cold voice echoed across the venue.Though no one present looked particularly pleased, nobody dared say anything more. After a night of rest, Jasper was smiling again. He glared at me.“Finn, it was only after you were gone that I realized standing at the very top isn’t as enjoyable as I thought. Everyone needs a rival in life. No matter what, I still hope you can return to this position.”Before anyone else could react, I let out a c

Jasper stormed in with an axe in hand, his face twisted with rage. His fans had never seen him look so ferocious. They were so shocked they couldn’t even type. Only the constant sound of gifts woke me up.I slowly opened my eyes, looked at Jasper, and smiled.“Jasper, don’t you still have a race tomorrow? What are you doing here?”His face darkened, but he couldn’t find a single word to refute me.Instead, he turned to stare at my car.“Such a good car, wasted on someone like you. What rotten luck. Hurry up and put the parts back!”Seeing how righteous he sounded, I didn’t even bother pretending. I pointed at him and burst out laughing.“You said it yourself. This is my car. Whether I burn it, smash it, or destroy it has nothing to do with you.“Besides, how do you know the car in my garage is missing parts? What, do you have X-ray vision?”The moment I said that, the viewers who had been ready to attack me hesitated.Their voices grew noticeably quieter.[Yeah, it’s Finn’s

Most of the people who couldn’t get answers from Jasper flooded straight into my stream. However, the moment they entered, all they saw was a black racecar at the center of the screen.[Finn? You went live just to show us your car?][Where’s Jasper? You let the organizer openly target him. Do you really think your backing makes you untouchable?]I watched the comments scroll by, not in any rush to respond.Instead, I picked up a cloth and casually wiped down the car.[Stop wiping! Read the comments already!]Seeing that I completely ignored them, the people hurling insults quickly lost interest and went quiet.Meanwhile, Jasper’s die-hard fans were so desperate to know what was really happening that they actually started sending me gifts.Only then did I stroll back into frame.Still, I ignored the comments.I crossed my legs, played with my phone, and spoke lazily.“I’ve already decided to withdraw from the race. The website, which was supposed to announce more details about the race, once again froze on the page: Under Maintenance. It was fixed shortly after, but the section showing Jasper’s car data was nothing but garbled text. With another refresh, the entire site went back into maintenance mode.I watched the scene unfold, amused.Of course, this would happen. My car was missing its most critical components. It couldn’t even drive properly. How could they test the data? Many netizens who had been following the race, as well as the dispute between Jasper and me, quickly noticed the anomaly.[What’s going on?][I took a screenshot. Only Jasper’s data has an issue. What’s wrong with the organizer?][Jasper is the most promising rising star! A genius at the top of the racing world! You’re pulling something this obvious. Aren’t you afraid it’ll be exposed?!]Reading these accusations, I couldn’t help but laugh. The organizer didn’t even care about me. How could they possibly care abo
