Se connecter“Hey, why are you daydreaming?” Felicity asked.
Ayleen swallowed hard and smiled awkwardly, trying to calm herself after that memory from her past came flooding back.
Jasper said, “Oh, she’s probably thinking about her thesis topic.”
Ayleen remained silent, choosing instead to look back and forth between the two of them.
“That’s still a long way off; no need to think about it yet,” Felicity said.
“True—unless you want to graduate right away and get out of this campus,” Jasper added.
Ayleen smiled and simply said, “Yeah, I’m hungry.”
Jasper chuckled, “Hold on, I’ll go get Eliza first.”
Once they were all gathered, the four students walked toward the cafeteria. Ayleen couldn’t stop glancing at them repeatedly, as if afraid she might wake up and realize it was all just a dream.
It was true that it was highly likely everything she was experiencing right now was related to time travel, but she still didn’t know when she would return to the future.
Speaking of the future, is it happening right now? Is this another dimension, or could it be that this isn’t time travel at all, but rather a dream I’m having as I’m dying? Ayleen thought hard.
“Hm, that’s true. Many people in a coma can experience things like this. Am I … one of those people too?” Ayleen muttered softly, but Jasper happened to hear her.
“In a coma? Who’s in a coma?” Jasper asked.
Ayleen shook her head quickly. “Please order for me, too.”
Jasper nodded and hurried over to the food stand offering a variety of dishes that had the students there drooling.
Ayleen sat down with her two best friends, each of whom was busy with their own activities.
Felicity was reading a magazine, while Elizabeth seemed to be playing with her phone.
Ah, I don’t know how long this will last, but if I really have to stay here for a while, that means I’ll have to readjust, Ayleen thought to herself.
In a flash, Ayleen grabbed her phone and started checking it.
It turned out there was nothing interesting on her phone.
“Oh yeah, this year I … haven’t met any guys yet,” Ayleen said softly.
Elizabeth, who heard her, immediately giggled, “Well, that’s why you shouldn’t be in the library all the time.”
“Yeah, that’s right. You need to go somewhere else, sweetheart,” Felicity said, who had already closed her favorite fashion magazine.
Ayleen replied, “What does the library have to do with not meeting any guys?”
Jasper had returned and was sitting in the empty chair, but he didn’t seem inclined to join their conversation.
Elizabeth clicked her tongue. “Of course there are. Are there any handsome guys there?”
“Yes,” Ayleen replied quickly.
Felicity yawned. “You mean a guy with thick glasses and a nerdy look, right?”
“Or … a librarian?” Elizabeth retorted exasperatedly.
Ayleen exhaled in exasperation, “Of course not. I just ran into a handsome guy a little while ago.”
“No need to lie,” Jasper said, casually munching on the bag of potato chips he’d just opened.
Ayleen raised an eyebrow, “What do you mean?”
Jasper grinned confidently, “A handsome guy like me wouldn’t show up at the library.”
Ayleen snorted, while Elizabeth rolled her eyes lazily.
When Ayleen turned to her right, she blurted out, “There he is.”
Ayleen’s three best friends all turned their gaze in the same direction at once.
“I ran into him at the library,” Ayleen said, keeping her eyes fixed on Sea Finley, who was furrowing his brow.
But Ayleen suddenly realized something else.
Wait a minute! Why do I keep running into him? Could it be that I used to run into him all the time but didn’t realize it?
But how is that possible? As far as I remember, at yesterday’s opening ceremony, Sea said, 'I’m glad to finally meet you.'
'Doesn’t that mean we’d only just met at that moment?' Ayleen thought seriously.
Felicity, Jasper, and Elizabeth, who had been watching where the girl was looking, all let out a soft sigh.
“Come on, Leen. Just forget about it!” Elizabeth said.
Ayleen furrowed her brow. “Forget about what?”
Jasper glanced over at Sea, who was now sitting at a table with a few people who were probably his classmates.
“Huh?” Ayleen stared blankly.
Felicity winked, “You … have a crush on Sea?”
Ayleen’s eyes widened, “What? Of course not.”
Ayleen was about to say that she was married and already had a daughter. But she managed to hold her tongue when she realized her three best friends would surely think she was crazy.
Remember, she was currently in the year 2015, a time when she was still a junior majoring in English literature at the University of Stone Hill.
So, she quickly changed the subject by asking, “Do you know him?”
Ah, that was a stupid question. Sea Finley was one of the most famous actors, just as Melody had said. Wait, but that was in 2025. It’s 2015 now—is he famous this year too? Ayleen wondered to herself.
“Who doesn’t know him, Ayleen? You’re such a … oh my gosh!” Elizabeth exclaimed, raising her eyebrows.
Ayleen immediately replied, “You mean he’s famous too? Like … a celebrity? Has he been in the modeling world? He—”
“Hey, what are you saying?” Felicity interrupted impatiently.
Jasper chimed in, “You just said he’s … an actor? Oh, come on. Don’t make me laugh, Ayleen!”
Elizabeth laughed wickedly, “Exactly. Just look at him! He’s really handsome, sure, but … with that stiff, stone-like expression of his, how could he possibly be an actor?”
Ayleen was stunned to hear this.
She stared at her three best friends with a strange look.
If you knew that in the future he’d actually become a very famous actor, you definitely wouldn’t be making fun of him like this, Ayleen thought to herself.
But, as if she still remembered that there was one question they hadn’t answered yet, Ayleen said again, “So, why did you say he’s famous?”
Nick gave the young woman a gentle smile before furrowing his brows as he answered her question."Ayleen, I'm honestly surprised that this is what you wanted to ask.""What were you expecting me to ask instead, Nick?" Ayleen replied calmly, even though her heart was filled with anxiety.Nick shrugged."It's nothing. As for resigning... actually, my family asked me to leave the café a month ago. But I wanted to stay there a little longer and continue living a simpler, more comfortable life."His gaze drifted into the distance before he continued."Ayleen, that café actually belongs to me. I stayed there because I preferred running a small business rather than working at my parents' company."Ayleen had never expected such an answer. What Nick was saying sounded like something straight out of a bestselling novel.A wealthy young man who was supposed to inherit a fortune had instead chosen to live like an ordinary person. She let out a quiet sigh, imagining how complicated his life must
The new café employee immediately gave Ayleen a strange look.Ayleen herself felt awkward asking for Nick's home address. However, she had to meet him as soon as possible, so she tried her best to maintain a calm expression.Still, being stared at like that made her wonder if it was strange to ask a complete stranger for the address of a café employee."...Are you Ayleen?" the young man asked, his brows furrowing in confusion.Ayleen's eyes widened the moment he said her name. How does he know my name? she wondered."Y-Yes. I'm Ayleen," she replied hesitantly. The young employee immediately nodded."Ah, I thought so."Ayleen raised an eyebrow, looking at him with both confusion and curiosity. He knows my name. But how? she wondered."Oh, Nick told me about you. He said you'd definitely come here," the young man explained, clearly not wanting her to misunderstand.Naturally, Ayleen was shocked, but she remained standing there awkwardly."Please wait a moment! I'll bring your order to y
Ayleen could only force a faint smile as she listened to her friends.Ah... if only I had never awakened in those dreams where I witnessed my previous life, I would never have understood the way Natasha Mylan thinks. The more she learned about everything her former friend had done, the more shocking Natasha became. The woman had not only hidden countless secrets but had also done things Ayleen had never imagined. What Ayleen did understand was that Natasha had done it all because she had fallen deeply in love with Sea Finley. In truth, there had never been anything wrong with her love itself. It was rejection that had transformed her into someone completely different. The Natasha Ayleen knew was a woman capable of manipulating anyone and using that ability solely for her own benefit. She never cared about the consequences of her actions. On top of that, she always appeared so strong and resilient, as though no one could ever hurt her.Yet the Natasha Ayleen had seen standing before Se
Ayleen was genuinely stunned when she heard the accusation-filled tone Sea used when talking about Nick. She could clearly sense the fear, anxiety, and uneasiness hidden beneath his voice.Even his eyes betrayed an unmistakable sense of panic.Ayleen Hazel fell silent as she realized just how deeply Nick seemed to affect Sea Finley. What exactly happened? Why are you acting so strangely today? Then Ayleen remembered the day Sea had come to pick her up at the café. He had made no attempt to hide his dislike for Nick. That only made her even more suspicious of her own boyfriend. It wasn't that she doubted Sea's honesty. She simply felt that he was hiding something significant from her.Otherwise, he wouldn't have reacted so strongly, bringing up Nick when they had been discussing something entirely different."Why are you bringing up Nick? What does he have to do with Natasha, Sea?" Ayleen asked, staring straight into his handsome face.Sea's expression softened as he realized they hadn
Nick seemed to think for a moment before answering,"It won't take long. Besides, I'm not entering any competitions, Ayleen. But that doesn't mean I'm going to drag my feet finishing this story."Ayleen nodded."It's actually a shame you didn't enter the competition we talked about before. But... well, we can't force these things, can we?"Nick nodded in agreement."The deadline is too tight, and I'm not confident I could produce a good manuscript under that kind of pressure."But sometimes a tight deadline actually makes a writer more productive and disciplined, Ayleen thought. At first, she had been overwhelmed by the pressure from the publishing company that had planned to publish her books. The constant deadlines always made her feel as though she had to rush through every manuscript. But over time, those deadlines had actually helped her develop discipline.Because of them, she had become incredibly productive and had rarely taken a break from writing.Of course, she couldn't tel
Nick gave a faint smile, looking as though he was about to answer Ayleen's question. Unfortunately, at that very moment, two customers happened to walk into the café. "Wait a moment, Ayleen!" Nick said before quickly getting to his feet and greeting the new customers. Ayleen let out a quiet sigh and could only wait patiently. As she watched Nick serve the customers, her mind drifted back to their earlier conversation. This is too much... But of course, I know that stories can sometimes resemble one another, she told herself, trying to convince herself not to overthink it. Meanwhile, as Nick spent nearly ten minutes preparing the customers' orders, he occasionally glanced in Ayleen's direction. Ayleen noticed, but she deliberately chose not to read too much into it. "I'm sorry for making you wait again," Nick said as he returned and sat down. "It's fine. I'm the one who should apologize for interrupting your work," Ayleen replied. Nick shook his head. "I'm the one who wanted
