Chapter 90

Selene's POV

I couldn't tear my eyes away from the two red lines.

They weren’t even bright yet. They were faint at first, like a trick of the light. Like maybe if I blinked, they would disappear and I would wake up from this nightmare. But they only got darker the longer I looked.

I felt my knees buckle before I even realized I was falling. My back hit the cabinet, and I slid down to the cold tile, the test clutched in my shaking hand.

“It’s real,” my wolf suddenly whispered. “You feel it too.”

And I did. Under the fear, under the numbness, I felt something tiny and new flickering low in my stomach. A life that hadn’t asked to be created. A life I wasn’t ready for.

“Dear goddess,” I rasped. “What have I done?”

This couldn’t be happening now. Not when I was this close to freedom. Not when I was supposed to be meeting my fated mate and starting over.

My wolf started pacing restlessly in my head. “If he finds out, he’ll never let you go.”

“I know. So, what am I supposed to do?”
