Chapter Twenty Two

Aurora’s POV

When we returned back to the clinic, the crowd had fizzled out. Only a handful of people remained scattered about the premises. My dad and Alice decided to go around greeting the few people left.

In no time, I was descended upon by Emily and her suspicious glare.

“Where were you? And my dad?” She asks.

‘He’s my dad too’ I thought. I was already starting to get attached to Dad and her words sounded like a sole claim to our joint parent.

“We were just talking,” I answered while looking around for a possible escape.

“Talking about what?” She presses on further.

“Just talking,” I answer again with a sweet smile plastered on my face and a nonchalant shrug.

Emily’s eyes are nearly closed from how intense her eyes squint suspiciously. Then she walks away without a word.

I let out a breath I didn’t even know I was holding, wondering what to make of her interrogations.

We left the clinic about an hour later and drove to a white three-story building at the edge of town.
