Maya woke up to the sound of voices downstairs. She had been living with Mrs. Katerina for two weeks now, and every morning brought the same routine. Mrs. Katerina would greet her with a warm smile and fresh clothes, while Aiden would glare at her like she was some unwanted pest that had invaded his perfect life.

She stretched and got out of bed, running her fingers through her tangled hair. The pink room had become her sanctuary, the only place where she felt truly safe from Aiden’s cold stare
