SILVER

I froze mid-step, my eyes widening at the towering figure. Compared to him, I was an ant, one he could squash. I staggered back, my fists balled. It was next to impossible to win against him, but I would die trying.

"Let me go, or else—"

He dropped to his knees, his head lowered, and I flinched back. "Greetings, Princess."

"Huh?"

"You are not feeling well. Please return to your bed and—"

"Princess?" The word left my lips before I could stop it.

"Yes, Princess," he answered calmly.

The realization hit me. It was just a case of misunderstanding, though I didn't know which kingdom would be happy to have an oversized wolf as a princess.

"You got the wrong person," I muttered, stepping away. "It must have been dark and you grabbed the wrong person. Your princess must still be in that forest. I am truly sorry, the—"

"I didn't grab the wrong person. You are our princess."

My face twisted in confusion.

"I am Prince Cassian Vale, the eldest son of the Lycan King." He raised his head, his blue eyes steady on mine. "And this is your home."

I shook my head. "You got the wrong person. I am no princess. My father is a warrior and—"

"Princess Silver, they are not your parents."

"Huh?" The words fell through my lips.

"You are the last surviving heir of the royal bloodline. You disappeared as a baby after the royal palace was attacked. The official story claims the princess was killed during the massacre, but she wasn't. You're alive."

"There must be a misunderstanding," I tried to explain. "I am just Silver."

"The truth is far more complicated. The night you were born, someone inside the royal family betrayed the King and Queen. The newborn princess was secretly taken away by a loyal royal guard trying to save her life. Sadly, the guard never reached his destination. He was killed before he could return her to the royal family."

His voice stayed soft, his eyes on me, waiting to see me unravel. "You were eventually raised by ordinary wolves who had no idea the child they found was the lost Lycan princess. For years, the royal family believed their lost princess was dead. Now we have found her."

I shook my head. "Your story is really sad. I feel for the poor king and queen, but you have the wrong person. I am no princess. I am barely a wolf."

"The royals are never wrong. You have the blood and power of the King and Queen."

"I don't, and, stand up, please," I said.

"I can't. My place is at your feet."

I blinked.

"Please have your rest, Princess. We will talk about it later."

"No." My voice came out hoarse. "I am not your princess. I do agree your King and Queen suffered, and I hope you find the real princess, but I am not her."

I resisted the urge to yell at him, to tell him he was staring at a disaster, a fat, dejected wolf. How could he possibly believe I was a princess?

"You are the princess."

"I—"

"And I can prove it."

That got my attention. "You can?" I whispered, and he nodded.

"Have your rest, and after, we will conduct a bloodline test. If the test proves my claim wrong, I will personally apologize and return you to where you came from.”

I bit down on my lower lip, my eyes searching frantically. I didn't have a choice. He seemed genuine, and there was nothing else to lose. I glanced down at my trembling hands, then back to his eyes.

I wanted to believe him. I wanted to believe that somewhere in this cruel world, I had belonged to something. But hope had hurt me before, and I was afraid to reach for it again.

I nodded. "I agree."

I expected the worst. I expected him to toss me out after giving it more thought. He didn't. Instead he led me to the bed, then stepped away. Soon the door pulled open and the physician walked in and bowed. He had a professional smile, his gaze warm. I expected disgust, shame, or silent taunting. He gave me none of it. He examined me and said I was fine, just weak.

He left, and the maid walked in.

I showered in what I could only call the biggest bathroom I had ever seen, then wore the red royal attire that clung to my body, revealing every curve I usually tried to hide.

"You look beautiful, Princess," the maid gushed. I listened for the disgust I expected to find underneath it. I found none.

My gaze landed on my reflection. I looked different. I was still the same person I had spent years avoiding in the mirror, but for the first time, I noticed something else. I was beautiful.

A soft knock thudded against the door. It creaked open, scraping across the tile, and he walked in. Cassian.

His blue eyes met mine, and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe. Unlike every other person who looked at me with disgust, there was no judgment in his gaze. My breath hitched.

"Princess, it's time for the test."

I swallowed hard, my hands clutching the gown.

I nodded. "Let's go.”

CASSIANI had one rule; never show emotion. Never let the turmoil inside you show.I had spent most of my life watching people drown in their own feelings. Every outburst and every raw reaction they let slip felt like a vulnerability. They boasted about whatever signed their death warrants, and for decades, I lived by that cold restraint.Until today.I lost control. I held her, and I uttered the one word I had promised myself I wouldn't say.Mate.Fuck.I gritted my teeth and pulled my gaze back to the pair of dark eyes that hadn't stopped glaring at me from across the room.“And here I thought I might be the first to break the pact,” Darian drawled. That annoying bastard leaned against the cupboard with a smirk—a smile I had seen half the world fall for, and one he was now using against my mate. Our mate.Fuck.“What happened?” Darien asked softly. It took all of my self-control not to wipe the smug look off his face with my fist.“It was a slip-up.”“Was holding her hand a slip-up,

SILVERThe silence that descended after his words was heavy, thick, and pressing down hard on my skin. The knot in my chest pulled tight. My eyes widened in shock, and my wolf practically screamed in my head.“What's going on in here?” the deep, commanding voice sliced through the tense air, jarring me back to reality. I whipped my head toward the doorway, my eyes landing on a pair of dark, intense eyes.Ronan.I followed his glare down to where his gaze was fixed—Cassian’s hand held firmly in mine.I snatched my hand away and cleared my throat.“Cat got your tongue, Cassian?” Ronan added, his voice laced with venom as Cassian lazily shifted his gaze back to him. Cassian appeared seemingly unaffected. “We were learning,” he said simply.Ronan took a step closer into the room, the air charging with violent static. “It didn't look like it,” “Are you overthinking, Ronan?”“Am I?” Ronan stepped right into his space. “Touch her again, and I—”“You’ll what?”Before things could escalate f

SILVERI stood there frozen, my hand still stretched out in midair. My gaze dropped to the candy resting in my palm, and a strange shift stirred deep in my chest. My wolf purred happily, but I couldn't move. This was the first time someone had actually made an effort. The first time someone had actually asked if I was okay—and cared enough to listen. The knot in my chest tightened, and a tiny smile crept onto my lips. I looked up, watching Darien's retreating figure.Protecting me was his duty. Not worrying about my mood.“Because he is one of our mates—he cares about us!” my wolf purred cheerfully.Does he?“He does! They all do, and—”I shook my head, clutching the candy tightly in my hand as I made my way back to my room. My wolf wouldn't stop her excited chatter, babbling endlessly about how we were no longer alone, how our mates were here to protect us, and how much they cared.I let out a heavy sigh. Without another word, I curled up on my bed, letting myself drift off into the

SILVER A loud scream tore from my lips and echoed through the hall. My eyes widened in terror, a wave of icy fear shooting straight down my spine. Then, the figure stepped closer, emerging from the dark shadows. As the pale rays of the moon washed over him, familiar features came into view—and dark grey eyes stared back at me.“Elias?” I muttered, letting out a massive sigh of relief. He bowed. “I didn't mean to frighten you.” His deep voice was shockingly soft, floating through the night air almost like a whisper. “I thought I could escort you back without you noticing, but then you took the wrong turn and...” He trailed off, his gaze dropping. “I'm sorry.”“I... no, there's no need to apologize. I only took a wrong turn because I thought you were someone else.”He nodded, and we lapsed into an awkward silence. While his gaze remained fixed on the floor, I took in his features. He shared a striking resemblance to Ronan, except Elias was darker and his skin far paler. He had thick ey

SILVERThe soft sounds of fluttering birds filtered through the room, pulling me back into reality. I stirred in bed, which creaked beneath my weight. My eyes creaked open, instantly assaulted by the brightly lit space.I blinked, adjusting to the contrast as I sat up. My dreary gaze darted around the room, illuminated by the pale orange rays of the morning sun.I let out a soft yawn, stood up, and made my way to the bathroom. Minutes later I sat on the small couch, my gaze drifting over the table laden with an array of food and drinks as the maid dishes out the food.“I can't finish all this,” I mumbled. She bowed gently. “We were asked to prepare it. Whatever you can eat. The rest will be taken back.”I mouthed a quiet “oh” and dug in. The sweet flavors exploded on my tongue, bringing a happy smile to my face.Aside from reading, eating was my therapy. To think, to gather my hazy thoughts, I just stared at the men—the Alphas who were my mates.Mates?I almost laughed at my ill fate.Perfect!! Good job, Moon Goddess. Wasn't Kael's rejection enough?
