Danielle's POV

"Get her, Elias."

The words had barely left my mouth before he moved. One heartbeat he was a man beside me; the next, bones cracked and reformed, fur rippling silver across muscle, and the most beautiful wolf I had ever seen stood in his place — even more striking than I could described him. Silver-coated, with a single ribbon of black fur tracing from the nape of his neck down to his waist, like a scar of shadow across moonlight.

He was gone before I could blink, a blur through

Lizzy POV "I should have killed her." The words left my mouth in a whisper as I paced the length of my room, back and forth, back and forth, until the carpet felt worn thin beneath my bare feet. I said it again, quieter this time, like a prayer to whatever god still bothered to listen to someone like me. The memory of that moment, replayed itself over and over, each time sharper than the last. I had been so close. Close enough to smell the lavender in her hair. Close enough to hear her breath catch when she thought she was alone. And then nothing. A missed chance, swallowed whole by bad timing and worse luck. Self-hatred curled in my stomach like something alive, twisting tighter with every lap around the room. I hated myself almost as much as I hated her — almost, because there wasn't quite enough room in me to hate anyone more than I hated Danielle Carmen. "Hey, have you seen Danielle?" Danielle POV"Elias, are you ready?""More than ever, Danielle." He held the car door open, and I slid past him into the passenger seat, the leather cool against my back despite the warmth of the night.I studied his face as he settled in beside me — jaw tight, eyes sharp with a curiosity he wasn't bothering to hide."Danielle." His voice dropped, firm but edged with something gentler. "Why the human world? Who do you really want to visit?"I smiled and shook my head instead of answering. "I'll explain on the way.""Get down," Elias barked at the driver. The man flinched and scrambled out without a single question — smart of him, given the look on Elias's face.Elias slid behind the wheel himself and pulled us onto the road, faster than I liked. The pack's lights blurred past the window, gold smears against the dark, and for a moment I let myself pretend this was an ordinary drive. That we were just two people leaving one life behind for a few stolen hours."So," he said, eyes flickin

Seconds later he returned, Felicia dangling by the scruff of her neck, her feet scraping uselessly against the marble floor."You know what, Felicia," I said, my voice low and steady despite the fire clawing up my throat. "My son never died. You never erased Stephen's memory. Not really."I watched her face crumple — shock first, then something uglier. Humiliation. She'd been so certain the magic held. So certain I'd never remember my own child.I grabbed my phone before she could

Felicia's POV "This can't be happening," I whispered to myself, my voice barely audible even to my own ears. Danielle had found out. Everything. If this got out, my name — my fame — would be nothing but ash by morning. I had to act. Fast. "Sarah!" I yelled toward the door, summoning her into my room. "Call me Lizzy," she corrected the moment she stepped inside, her eyes flicking to the hallway behind her before she shut the door. I snatched up my phone and typed with shaking fingers, sending the message to Linda: She's close to finding out the truth. My stomach twisted. If Danielle took this to the pack's court, it would be over. Not just embarrassment — over. My title stripped, my name dragged through the packlands like a carcass. What was I supposed to do? Lizzy stood there, arms folded, her expression unreadable — the same careful blankness she always wore, like she'd already guessed exactly what I was about to ask of her. "Thank goodness, co-wife," I said, the

Elias's POVAs we left the room, I glanced back at Vivienne. Her face had gone pale, though something in her expression looked less like fear and more like a held breath she hadn't let out yet."Don't worry, Vivienne. I'm glad you exposed the truth." I meant it as reassurance, and for a moment it worked — a small smile broke across her face. Then Linda's voice cut across the pathway, sharp and impatient."Coming, mother," Vivienne called back, already turning to go.Danielle said nothing the entire walk down the stairs. Her fists stayed clenched at her sides, knuckles bleached white, and she moved like the floor itself had wronged her — every step deliberate, almost hostile."Danielle, we need to call the pack's doctor. Those bruises could get worse." Nothing. I looked over and found her eyes somewhere far away, fixed on a point that wasn't in the room at all."Danielle." My voice came out louder than I intended, and she startled, blinking back into herself. "I said we need to call th
