Chapter Four

Childish:

“He left? The whole pack is gone?” He said confused.

“Yes Alpha, the whole pack up and abandon everything. Everythings empty.” He said, bowing his head.

“Where would he go? How could he leave?” The Alpha yelled, slamming his fist down.

“I’m sorry Alpha Calvin  I do not know.” He said, hanging his head.

Calvin growled angrily. He wanted to ruin Aldric. He wanted to make sure he was reduced to absolutely nothing before he killed him. It's what he deserved.  He paced the camp becoming angrier and angrier with each step. Where the hell would he go?

“Micah send the scouts. There’s not too many packs out there that can withhold more members. Find Aldric.”  Calvin growled.

Micah bowed his head and left Calvin alone. It was only a matter of time now. He had whittled away at Aldric’s pack slowly killing off his warriors, leaving just the woman and eldery. He had disguised it all as rouge attacks. He was to blind by the loss to realize how strategic it all was.

There were all rouges at some point but then Calvin came. He took command and began slowly changing things for them. He made himself  Alpha of the Rogues and began his plan of take over. His sight was set on Rhett, he was only after Aldric  because his pack always stood in the way.  Now Aldric pack had left and Calvin felt uneasy about it. He began pacing outside his tent. He wouldn't know anything till Micah came back with news.

Calvin  looked over his large but growing pack. They were nomadic right now, living in tents and being invisible. Moving silently about the woods. He wanted to keep it this way until he could complete his plan. He then would set up his pack where Rhett was and claim what was rightfully his. The waiting was starting to wear on him.

“Where are you going?” Waverly asked, following Aldric out the door.

“Well I’m tempted to go track Rhett down and have the meeting I've been asking for but I figure since we need to stay here we should continue life. The pack is meeting me at their field track. We're going to train.”  Aldric shrugged.

“Wait for me.” Waverly yelled ducking back into her room.

Seconds later Waverly came back wearing her work out shorts and sport bra. She nodded to him and he shook his head walking out the door.

“Are you looking for a second chance mate, dressed like that?” Aldric teased her.

“No, we both know there’s no such thing but maybe…maybe there will be a friend to keep me company.” She smiled back.

“There could be you never know.” Aldric’s smile faded from playful to sad.

“Alpha, I will see him again. We will reunite when it's my time.” Waverly said, squeezing his shoulder.

Aldric nodded to her the pain of guilt pitting in his stomach. If he had only been stronger, faster, and better, Waverly's mate might still be alive. He let out a long sigh. Waverly nudged him as she walked past him. She knew what he was thinking and she shook her head.

“Being Alpha doesn't mean you can control everything Aldric. You can't stop all the bad in the world.” Waverly said as she walked out the door.

Aldric felt exhausted already watching Waverly walk out the door. No matter what she said to him or how she tried to justify what happened to the pack. It was still his pack and it was still his fault.

Rhett felt so much better after leaving Tiffany. Confused but better. The tension had left him. He went to meet Luke in his office, a small relaxed smile on his face. Walking into the office, Luke glanced up from his desk.  Luke threw him a weird look.

“Alpha?” Luke asked him, setting down his pen.

“What?” Rhett asked, narrowing hsi brows at him.

“Nothing you look…relaxed. I wasn't sure if something bad had happened.” Luke laughed.

“Just mind your own business and give me the reports.” Rhett growled at him before sitting down.

“Well the crops are doing fine, we had a small problem with some parasites but we got that quickly under control. If everything continues the way it's going,  we should be all set for the upcoming fall….winter. The additional storage unit you request is being built and will be done on time. As far as medically the pack is healthy and strong. Every member attends training twice a day like you request and the sick total is down way low right now. Our medical supplies are ok, we need more antibiotics. “ Luke said the last part with a frown.

Rhett nodded he knew, he wished he could find a way to start manufacturing his own. The last wave of sickness that went through the pack took a total on the medicine he had stocked. They need to restock. Rhett motioned for him to continue.

“So far no attempted rogue attacks. The rogues attacking Aldric pack have not shown their faces near ours. We have adjusted security measures just in case they decided to start moving towards us now Aldric’s pack has moved. Hopefully they will just settle with what they have.” Luke said quietly.

Aldric. Hendrix said his name in Rhett’s head.

Quiet. I’m trying to work. Rhett growled at Hendrix.

I like his name and so do you. Hendrix said back.

Working. Rhett growled again.

“Alpha?” Luke asked, concerned.

“What?” Rhett asked him, annoyed.

“Your growling and eyes are glowing.” Luke said with a shrug.

“Hendrix is being annoying today.” Rhett explained.

“We need to set up a small team to go find more medicine. The human world is very tight right now on who they let in out of hospitals and pharmacies.” Rhett said thinking out loud.

“Laura is a nurse, maybe she can help?” Luke suggested.

“Yes. Although I think our target shouldn't be a hospital. We should go after a warehouse. We can get a large amount all at once and be good. With the fall and winter coming more sickness will spread with the cold weather we need to be prepared for. We’ll bring Laura along to help with medicine selection.” Rhett said, forming a plan out loud while he talked.

Luke slid his laptop over and opened it up. He drew Rhett’s attention while he began typing. Two seconds later he looked up from the screen at Rhett.

“There’s actually a pharmaceutical warehouse forty five minutes from here. I think the best move will be to disguise ourselves as staff and go about it that way. I’m sure security is probably strong but then again who knows.” Luke shrugged.

“Ok, have Mason and Samuel go scout it. Make sure they are careful. Once we know what we are dealing with we will set up a small team to go in one night and get what we need.” Rhett said.

Rhett stood up getting ready to leave.

“The wolf I saw yesterday. The one Hendrix thinks is our mate. I think she must be part of Aldric’s pack. Our walls and security are too strong for someone to have slipped in. Did you set up a time for me to meet the females of his pack?” Rhett asked.

Luke cleared his throat, Rhett raised an eyebrow at him.

“Alpha Aldric has been requesting a meeting with you. He wants his pack to be useful while they are here and would like to discuss things. I have not brought up meeting his female pack members yet. Maybe we can have a gathering and introduce them to our pack? …..If they are staying a while. It might bring some joy to our own pack too. During the gathering you can meet everyone in his pack. Instead of lining all the females up and you meeting them one by one. It will also not be so …so ..creepy. ” Luke said, not sure how Rhett was going to respond.

Luke watched Rhett tense up. He flexed his jaw a few times thinking. He didn't want to be near him. There was something about him that was nagging him and he didn't want to deal with the weird feelings he got when he was around. Aldric was overwhelming to him and he didn't want to deal with that.

“Doesn't he have a Beta?” Rhett asked, trying to find a way around it.

“Yes Alpha her name is Waverly.” Luke answered, he was confused about Rhett’s sudden change in emotion.

“Ok I will meet with her.” Rhett said with a shrug.

“Alpha not to over step my place but I think that would be seen as an insult.” Luke said cautiously.

“Insult! He should be lucky he’s even here. He shouldn't be. We have enough going on as it is.” Rhett grumbled.

“I agree with you  Alpha but you did say they could stay.” Luke said, trying to sway him into doing the right thing.

“Exactly so he should be grateful.” Rhett said, folding his arms across his chest trying to avoid the point Luke was making.

“Alpha.” Luke sighed.

“Fucking fine! Let him know I will meet with him this afternoon here in this office. You're going to present and have him bring his beta. We will make it all super official. Happy now?” Rhett growled.

Luke glanced down trying to hide his smile and choked back a laugh. Rhett could be childish sometimes.

“I swear to god Luke, laugh and I will have you doing night board patrol.” Rhett growled.

“No laughing here Alpha.” Luke smirked.

“Freaking set up Mason and Samuel. Let Alpha Aldric know we will meet at two. Gives me time to decompress.” Rhett growled walking to the door.

“Alpha, are you sure you're good?’ Luke was concerned a little at the rapid mood swings.

“I’m fine, just handle that shit.” Rhett said walking out the door.
