Hilary Windsor

My body stilled as Bennett’s warm lips brushed mine. His kiss was soft, reassuring. Not rushed or wild like before. I could have pulled away. I should have. But I didn’t.

I kissed him back.

Right there. In front of everyone. In front of my family. Like the world had stopped spinning and it was just the two of us.

It was quiet, steady… comforting. And that scared me more than anything.

I didn’t want it to end.

He pulled back slowly, his hand still resting at my waist. His eyes searched mine.

“Let’s get out of here,” he said softly.

The room was dead silent. Gasps and whispers hung thick in the air.

Vivian’s face twisted with rage. Emily looked like she might faint.

“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Emily’s voice cracked as she stepped forward, her heels clicking against the marble floor. “You’ve been sleeping with my fiancé behind my back?”

I turned to her, calm as ever. “Oh, Emily, please. You slept with my husband for months. I had one night with him. And let’s not forget

  • The Replacement Bride    Chapter 39: The Unexpected Call

Hilary Windsor “I’m not sure I’ll try anything like that,” I muttered, stabbing at the pasta on my plate. I felt completely helpless because the idea of inviting Vivian and Emily into anything involving to my life would be that I was digging my own graveBennett only chuckled like an amused kind of chuckle “Do you have your phone with you?”My head snapped up instantly “Yes,” I said slowly, narrowing my eyes at him. “Why are you suddenly asking for it?”“Can I borrow it for a few seconds?” he asked, almost casually like we used to do this before.I frowned. Borrow it? Since when did Bennett need my phone? “What do you want to use it for?”He only shrugged calmly. “You’ll find out. Just lend it to me.”I hesitated. Everything in me screamed don’t. Still, something about the way he gave me that calm look made me sigh. Reluctantly, I slid the phone across the table. He picked it up, studied it for a moment, then stretched it back toward me.“Unlock it,” he said.My brows furrowed. I did

  • The Replacement Bride    Chapter 38: A Dangerous Suggestion

Bennett Landon It wasn’t like I wanted to make such a decision without telling Hilary. But when my mother called earlier that morning, I lost my grip on the conversation. She had asked me which day I and Hilary had concluded for the family meeting. I wanted to tell her we haven't thought about it yet,but I didn't know if it was because I wanted the marriage to be held as soon as possible. Somehow, the word tomorrow had slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it.Afterwards, I regretted saying such a careless word, I kept thinking about Hilary, that morning when the notification popped up on her phone. I’d seen the flicker of panic on her face but she had walked away before I could even say anything. I really wanted to apologize for putting her in such a position.I worked from home that day, though it was hard to call what I was doing “working.” because I barely looked at the files on my desk. My eyes kept wandering toward the stairs, waiting for the sound of her door opening.

  • The Replacement Bride    Chapter 37: Bennett's Suggestion

Hilary Windsor My head hadn’t been quiet since yesterday. Every thought came back to Bennett. It was like a film reel that I couldn’t switch off. I hated how much space he took up in my mind, he has just been confusing my head, giving me mixed signals after the discussion yesterday about the marriage contract whatever, I haven't known where exactly to set my mind. He said he made the marriage contract because of me, did he care about me that much? Or was it just an excuse? God I didn't know what to think anymore. I needed air, anything like distraction. So I went to the mall to buy some fabrics, threads, and buttons. I even got things I didn’t need, if I was honest. I didn't feel like sewing. It was about pretending like everything was fine. I wanted to just bury myself in work all day. Orders were piled high already so I would attend to them all day. My inbox kept buzzing with interview requests from big fashion houses, brands I once dreamed of working with, but I declined e

  • The Replacement Bride    Chapter 36: The Warning

Bennett Landon I gripped the wheel tighter than normal, my knuckles were turning white as I drove at the highest speed through the night. Nicholas Windsor. That son of a bitch, I wanted to see him face to face. I wanted him to say all those rubbish threats he has been sending to Hilary before me. I swear by everything I have I won't spare him. I would kill him with my bare hands. Anger was ranging inside of me the closer I got to the location the more angry I gotAs I got closer to the place, it was unnecessarily so quiet, it was abandoned. I parked two streets away, turned off the engine, and stepped out. Every instinct screamed caution. I started looking around for any trace of himI waited for a few minutes but there was nothing moving. There was no shadow, even a graveyard had more life than where I stood. My pulse thudded in my ears. He was supposed to be here. Finally, I couldn’t take it. I moved closer. My shoes echoed lightly against the cracked pavement as I approached the

  • The Replacement Bride    Chapter 35: Marriage Proposal

Hilary Windsor Nothing can really be predicted for sure, because tell me why Bennett's parents suddenly agreed to us getting married. Out of nowhere. When we badly needed an approval from them they refused, but now that it feels like our world has crashed and no single hope of a rebuild, they were talking about a family meeting. One statement didn't leave my head since, it was Regina's question "Then tell me, Hilary. Why were you so desperate to marry my son?"The question had caught me by surprise, even after we left the Landons estate I still couldn't find an answer to it. I pondered on and on about it, because right before I lost my pregnancy, I was so sure I wanted to be with Bennett for the rest of my life.I don't know if it was because he was the first person to ever stand by me and support me before the world. But now? When I see Bennett I see a different person. I couldn't even convince myself to see him as the man I once loved. Everything was a mess, my life has always b

  • The Replacement Bride    Chapter 34: The Setup

Bennett LandonI left the kitchen with my hands still warm from where hers had rested on my chest. That brief, accidental, unspoken moment had left more of a mark than I wanted to admit. But I couldn’t afford to think about that. Not when everything felt like it was closing in.The moment I got back into the guest room, I opened my laptop. The security footage had come in, synced from the house cameras.I clicked through the files, found the one marked with the timestamp from three nights ago—the same night Emily had shown up at the bar, pretending like it was fate. The same night she showed me that photo of Hilary and Liam. The footage loaded. High-resolution. Clear. Cold.7:47 PM.That was around the time Emily slid into the seat next to me.I hit play.Hilary appeared on the screen, walking toward her car with a folder in her hand. She looked distracted, her steps quick.7:49 PM.Liam showed up from the edge of the frame. Like he’d been waiting for her. Right on cue.She dropped th
