Chapter 5 Teaching a Lesson

Claire's expression became sullen upon hearing Armand call Ollie a bastard. She shot daggers at him and warned, "Who are you calling a bastard?"

Armand guffawed. He pointed at Ollie and said with a raised voice, "I'm talking about him, duh. Are you deaf?"

The next second, Claire slapped him across the face. She couldn't believe this man was the same person she was once deeply in love with five years ago. After their time apart, she came to learn that their fleeting relationship meant nothing at all. The fact that he could treat a child so ruthlessly reflected how he'd taken her for granted.

Claire's slap landed on Armand's cheek loudly, leaving him slightly dazed. While he touched his cheek in a trance, Chantelle was already yelling fiercely, "Claire, how could you hit him?" Armand was her fiancé; thus, she felt equally humiliated. However, no matter how angered she was, Claire wasn't fazed. Instead, she looked at Chantelle with an icy glare and said, "One more word from your mouth and I'll slap you too."

Armand was a man with pride, and his temper wasn't great to begin with. When he heard Claire's words, he blew a fuse. "Claire, do you really think I won't hit you?" As he spoke, he tightened his clenched fist and stormed forward.

Before he could hit her, however, Ollie jumped down from the luggage and ran up to his mother in small steps. He stood in front of her and stretched out his arms, yelping, "Don't you dare bully my mommy!"

Then, Ollie used all his might to push Armand backward, but his strength was so small that the latter didn't move an inch. Despite his futile efforts, Claire was swooned by the child's flushed face from protecting her.

"What a rude mutt." Armand's irritation increased when Ollie got in his way. He grabbed the child's arm and wanted to throw him aside. "Get lost!"

Just then, a tall and sturdy figure got down from the parked car at the roadside. With large strides, the man approached the group of people and reached out to hold Ollie.

"My son…" Javier's voice was as cold as ice. "When did I teach you to resort to violence?"

Earlier, Javier had witnessed the whole scene while he was in the car. When he saw the strong and composed woman from the plane get ridiculed by the two others, he felt uneasy for some reason. Then, when Armand had handled the little boy roughly, seeming as though he was about to beat him, Javier couldn't watch any longer and immediately left the car with a frown.

Startled, Claire looked over at Javier and couldn't believe that the man who'd been unkind toward her on the plane would come to her rescue at this moment.

"Dad!" As soon as Ollie saw Javier, he rushed to him excitedly and hugged his calf, huffing angrily, "Dad, these bad people are bullying my mommy!"

The way Ollie addressed the newcomer caused both Armand and Chantelle to be dumbfounded. Initially, they thought that the boy was merely a product of Claire's disgraceful act with some random man, but who knew that she had actually gotten a husband overseas?

Most importantly, the said man looked outstanding in how he dressed and carried himself. Armand and Chantelle exchanged a glance, and for a moment, they couldn't seem to find their voice.

Javier turned to look at Claire and chided casually, "Didn't I tell you to wait for me? Why are you getting bullied when I was away for just a while?"

Claire was puzzled, unable to grasp the reason behind the man's goodwill. Nevertheless, she quickly played along by holding onto his arm. "I didn't expect to encounter these morons as soon as I came out. Forget it, dear. Let's go home."

Javier nodded in agreement and followed her out. Before leaving, though, he looked back at the astonished Armand with an uncharitable gaze and reminded viciously, "Next time, remember to look in the mirror first before you try to teach others a lesson."

Armand was terrified by Javier's stern glare. Gritting his teeth, he couldn't stand the sight of Claire entering the car hand-in-hand with the man. At the same time, Chantelle's jealousy was obvious as she watched the luxurious car leave the airport. The car was a limited edition model that couldn't be easily bought. When did Claire score an exceptional man like that?
