Valerius POV

The main hall was bright, filled with the loud chatter of the Moonstone Pack.

At the head of the long dining table sat the highest-ranking members. Alpha Silas sat in the middle, with Lady Lyra right beside him. Valerius and Commander Vance sat across from them, while Beta Kaelen, Gamma Damon, and old Beta Jonathan took the remaining seats near the center. Further down the table sat the lower-ranked wolves and their mates.

The initial treaty papers had already been signed in Alpha Silas's office earlier that evening. Now, the feast was underway. Large silver platters of roasted meats, fresh bread, and rich side dishes were already laid out across the long wooden tables.

As the guests ate, a line of pack omegas entered the hall carrying heavy glass pitchers of wine and water, moving quietly between the chairs to fill everyone's glasses.

Valerius kept his posture relaxed, barely touching the food on his plate. His sharp eyes scanned the room until he caught sight of a familiar figure walking into the hall.

It was Eliana.

She kept her head lowered, her eyes fixed on the floor as she moved carefully from person to person with a pitcher of red wine. Her small hands were visibly trembling under the weight of the glass.

Valerius watched her every move, his heart heavy as he noticed how thin her arms looked beneath her faded omega dress.

When she finally reached his spot at the table, she leaned in quietly to pour wine into his glass. She didn't look at his face. Her entire body was stiff with tension, clearly desperate to finish her task and leave the hall.

Valerius had his hand resting flat on the wooden table, right near his glass.

As the stream of red wine filled his cup, his long fingers shifted slightly, gently brushing over the back of her hand.

Eliana flinched.

She froze mid-pour, her eyes wide as she looked down at his fingers on her skin. She yanked her hand back so fast that a few drops of wine spilled onto the white tablecloth. She looked around in a sudden panic, checking to see if Alpha Silas or Lady Lyra had noticed.

Seeing how terrified she was, Valerius immediately pulled his hand back, keeping his face completely expressionless.

Eliana gave a quick, nervous bow, set the pitcher down, and practically fled toward the kitchen doors.

Beside him, Commander Vance kept his face neutral, but his voice suddenly cut straight into Valerius's mind through their private link.

What was that about, Alpha? Commander Vance asked mentally, his eyes darting toward the kitchen doors before shifting back to Valerius.

Valerius didn't look at Commander Vance. His eyes stayed locked on the doorway where she had vanished.

Nothing, Valerius replied through the mind-link, his voice cold and firm. Just make sure she comes home with us.

Commander Vance's mind-link vibrated with shock. What? Why? Who is she?

Later, Valerius linked back simply, closing off the mental connection before Commander Vance could ask anything more.

Before Commander Vance could process the order, Lady Lyra leaned across the table toward him, her bright blue dress rustling loudly as she placed a charming smile on her face.

"Commander Vance," Lady Lyra chimed, her voice sweet and high. "We hope the wine is to your liking! It is imported directly from the southern vineyards. Only the absolute best for our northern guests, of course."

Commander Vance instantly focused back on the room, putting on his smooth, political face without missing a beat.

"It is very fine wine, Lady Lyra," Commander Vance replied politely, giving her a short nod. "Your pack's hospitality is appreciated."

"Oh, it is our pleasure!" Lady Lyra cooed, leaning in a little closer, clearly trying to build a strong political connection with the Northern commander. "We take great pride in our traditions here. The Moonstone Pack believes in strong alliances, especially with powerful leaders like yourselves. Don't you agree, Alpha Silas?"

Alpha Silas offered a stiff nod, taking a slow sip of his drink. "Indeed. A strong border benefits both our territories."

Lady Lyra smiled wider, turning back to Commander Vance. "Exactly! Which is why I personally made sure your delegation received the absolute best care tonight. If there is anything else you or your men need during your stay—anything at all—you only have to ask me."

Commander Vance smiled smoothly, seizing the opening in an instant. "Actually, Lady Lyra, now that you mention it... I couldn't help but observe how well-trained and organized your omegas are. They know their duties well and move with great care."

Lady Lyra puffed her chest out with pride. "Of course! I oversee their training personally."

"It would be a true honor," Commander Vance continued smoothly, "to have one of your omegas come to the Northern Pack to help teach our staff how you handle guest care."

Lady Lyra's eyes brightened at the flattering proposal. "Hmm... that is a very interesting idea. Whom do you suggest?"

"The omega who just poured our wine," Commander Vance said casually, leaning back in his chair. "I believe she would be perfect. I heard she was the one who prepared our guest suites today, and the room was set up beautifully."

Lady Lyra scoffed lightly, a calculating look crossing her face. "Oh, you mean Eliana? Well, she is just a quiet maid, but if you truly think so..." She waved a dismissive hand, already liking the idea of sending away an omega she disliked while looking generous to the Northern guests. "I think that would be perfectly fine."

Beside her, Alpha Silas suddenly froze.

Valerius's sharp eyes caught the exact moment Alpha Silas's jaw tightened. Alpha Silas's fingers gripped his silver fork so hard his knuckles turned white against the metal.

"I don't think we should decide that right now," Alpha Silas cut in, his voice unnaturally tight and cold.

Lady Lyra blinked in surprise, turning to look at Alpha Silas. "Why not, Alpha Silas? It's just an omega, and it shows great goodwill to our northern neighbors."

"We can discuss pack staff later," Alpha Silas insisted sharply, not meeting anyone's eyes as he stared straight ahead.

Commander Vance's mind-link immediately pinged inside Valerius's head. Did you notice Alpha Silas's reaction to Lady Lyra's suggestion?

Valerius didn't answer through the link. He simply sat quietly, his dark, calm eyes shifting slowly between Alpha Silas's tense grip on his fork and Lady Lyra's confused face.

Very interesting..., Valerius thought to himself, a cold, dangerous resolve settling deep in his chest. Alpha Silas was hiding something about Eliana—and whatever it was, it only made Valerius more determined to take his mate away from this place.

Valerius POV Valerius watched Eliana set her fork down. She had barely touched the chicken—eating only a small piece of toast and taking tiny sips of her tea.He glanced at the small white dish on the wooden tray, where the pieces of dark chocolate were still untouched."You haven't tried the chocolate," Valerius said, his voice soft in the quiet room.Eliana looked at the dish, her fingers fidgeting with the silk blanket. She hesitated, looking uncertain, as if asking permission to take a piece was a test she might fail.Seeing her reluctance, Valerius picked up a piece of the dark chocolate between his fingers. He leaned back in his chair and looked at her, a playful glint in his eye."Do I need to feed it to you?" he asked, keeping his tone light and teasing to bring a smile to her face.Eliana’s eyes went wide. Instantly, a deep, burning blush spread across her cheeks, rushing all the way down her neck. She quickly snatched a piece of chocolate from the tray herself and popped it

Eliana's POV He had taken off his heavy dark coat, wearing only a plain black shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He looked big and strong in the small room. In his hand, he carried a wooden tray with a clean white cloth. Steam rose from a teapot and a covered plate. The moment Eliana saw his face, her heart jumped into her throat. The picture of him coming close to kiss her in the dream flashed right in front of her eyes, and her cheeks turned hot all over again. She quickly looked down at the soft blanket, unable to look him in the eye.Valerius stopped near the door, looking at her sitting up in the big bed. He saw how she moved back slightly, her hands holding the blanket tightly, and the red blush spreading over her face and neck.He pulled his eyebrows together a little bit, looking worried. He thought her red face meant she was sick or had a fever from the long trip."Eliana?" Valerius asked gently, closing the door behind him and walking slowly toward the bed so h

Eliana POV The cold was the first thing Eliana felt.In her dream, she stood alone in a big white field filled with heavy snow. Big trees stretched up into a dark gray sky, their branches weighed down by white frost. The wind blew softly, biting at her bare arms and making her shiver. She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to keep warm, but the cold went straight to her bones. Then, she heard heavy footsteps walking in the snow. She turned around and saw Valerius walking toward her. He was not wearing his heavy dark traveling coat. Instead, he wore a simple, warm sweater that made him look soft and friendly. In his hand, he held a big ceramic mug. White steam rose into the cold air, carrying the rich, sweet smell of hot coffee. He stopped right in front of her, his dark eyes filled with a gentle warmth that seemed to push the cold away."You look so cold, Eliana," he said softly, his deep voice sounding like a warm blanket. Before she could answer, the cold field seemed to vanis

Valerius POV The car door clicked shut, blocking out the cold morning air of the Moonstone territory.Valerius sat back into the soft leather seat as the engine started up. Beside him, Eliana sat as still as a statue. She pressed herself far into the corner, her hands folded tightly in her lap. She kept her head down so low that her long hair fell forward, hiding her face. The car began to move, rolling smoothly down the road.Valerius watched her out of the corner of his eye. Seeing her try to make herself as small as possible made his stomach twist. She looked like a scared animal waiting to be hit.He wanted to reach out, stroke her hair, and tell her she was okay. But he knew better. To her, he was just a scary stranger from the North.Be patient, he told himself. Take it slow."The drive to the border will take a few hours," Valerius said, keeping his voice soft and quiet. "Are you comfortable, Eliana?""Yes," she whispered to her lap."You can turn on the seat warmer if you are

  • The Rise of the Lost Lycan Queen    CHAPTER 12

Valerius POV Valerius stood near the large wooden front doors, dressed in his heavy northern traveling furs. Commander Vance stood beside him, keeping his polished, diplomatic smile while Alpha Silas and Lady Lyra stood a few steps away."We are deeply grateful for your hospitality, Alpha Silas," Commander Vance spoke smooth political words, acting as the public voice of their delegation. "And we thank you for extending your friendship by allowing your omega to assist our staff. We trust this is the beginning of a long and prosperous relationship between our packs."Alpha Silas barely gave a tight nod. His jaw was clenched, his expression hard and unreadable as he stared toward the hallway stairs.Right on cue, Lady Lyra spoke up with a forced smile. "Ah, here she is now."Eliana walked into the entryway, carrying a single, worn canvas bag over her shoulder. She kept her head down, her movements quiet and small as if trying to make herself invisible. Before anyone could move, Alpha S

Eliana POV Early the next morning, before the sun was fully up, Eliana stood in her small basement room. She looked around at the cold stone walls and the thin mattress. There was almost nothing here that belonged to her. The pack gave her the few worn dresses she wore, and she had no money or valuable things. Her eyes fell on a small wooden box sitting on the table. It was the only thing she truly owned. The former Alpha—Silas's father—had given it to her on her twelfth birthday back when she still lived upstairs. He had handed her a beautiful hairpin with a crest carved into it, telling her it was the only thing left from the parents she could no longer remember.Eliana opened the lid and looked inside. Alongside the hairpin lay a small polished river stone Silas had given her when they were children - long before he became Alpha and rejected her, a picture of herself, Alpha Marcus and Silas, the hairpin the alpha had given to her on her thirteenth birthday and told her it belonged
