Chapter 10

Amber’s POV

“Erm, it’s okay, madame. Stop me here. Mother wants to see me.” I tried to stop the wheels of the chair, but Madame Griselda only pushed harder.

“Don’t be stupid, girl. Aren’t you weak?” She hissed spitefully. “You just relax. I’m going to push you to your mother’s room… in Maggie’s chair.”

My heart rate picked up as she continued to push. If mother saw me in Maggie’s chair…

“Oh, Amber,” Vera moaned worriedly. “We shouldn’t have angered this woman. Now she’ll…”

“Shut up, Vera,” I snapped at my wolf. I was anxious enough without her doubts making it worse.

As we moved through the packhouse, all the maids jumped out of the way. Doing a double-take when they saw which sister was seated on the chair.

Madame Griselda hummed a tune, her countenance overly bright as she brought the chair to a stop in front of Mother’s oak doors.

She rapped on the wood. I just started to stand from the chair when the door swung open.

Mother looked exactly the same.
