Chapter 1

āļœāļđāđ‰āđ€āļ‚āļĩāļĒāļ™: Hardington
The woman standing by the window in the hospital room spoke to Rowan, "Rowan, blocking the news won't help. If Angela suddenly comes back, she'll find out anyway."

Rowan was holding a baby in his arms, his gaze full of affection.

At her words, his expression hardened with indifference.

"If she comes back, then so be it. If she finds out, I'll make things clear with her. I just don't want her to come back and make a scene because she can't handle it. You know how much she loves me. She caused a lot of trouble before."

I froze at the door of the room.

Yes, I used to love him deeply.

If there was another woman around him, I'd immediately try to get rid of her.

If he spoke to another woman, I'd ask him if he didn't love me anymore.

"True, everyone knows what she's like." The woman laughed, but her expression quickly shifted to one of concern. "So, when you get married, will you block the news then too?"

Rowan kissed the baby on the cheek, his voice calm as he replied, "We'll see when the time comes."

As soon as he finished speaking, Samantha Punter walked out of the bathroom.

Rowan quickly put the baby down and rushed to support her.

"Samantha, hey, take it easy."

"Oh, Samantha, you're so lucky. You've got such a good fiancÃĐ. No wonder you're willing to have a child with him before marriage."

My heart stopped for a beat.

Samantha used to be my best friend. Before I left the country, I had asked her to look out for Rowan.

But now, she was Rowan's fiancÃĐe.

I never imagined that the melodramatic scenarios I'd seen on TV would happen to me.

I suddenly wasn't sure whether I should walk in. If I did, what right did I have to confront Rowan? After all, we'd never officially been together.

A year ago, all he'd promised me was, "Wait until you finish school and come back, then we'll be together."

I pulled out my phone and opened Rowan's contact.

He hadn't contacted me in a long time. The last message he sent was a week ago, asking if I'd had dinner. I replied that I had and shared some interesting stories from my time abroad.

I told him about a kitten I had seen on the side of the road.

But he didn't reply.

I typed out a message to him. [Rowan, what are you doing?]

Just as I sent it, I heard Rowan's phone ring in the room.

He picked it up, glanced at it, then immediately turned it off without replying.

The friend sitting next to him saw the message and laughed. "Aren't you going to reply to that?"

Rowan gently held Samantha's hand, his tone dismissive. "Nothing worth replying to. I've always disliked her. If she weren't my father's adopted daughter, I wouldn't even bother with her. The only person I've ever loved is Samantha."

...

I had no idea how I managed to walk out of the hospital. I just remember stumbling and bumping into several people along the way.

When I reached the door, I ran into another one of Rowan's friends. He was holding a bouquet of flowers, and when he saw me, surprise flashed in his eyes.

"Angela, when did you come back to the country? What are you doing here?"

His two questions made me remember everything that had happened recently.

I had just finished my year abroad and came back.

After I landed, I felt a bit unwell, so I came to the hospital.

I didn't expect that I'd pass by the very room where Rowan was.

  • The River of Regrets   Chapter 10

"I'm so happy he's here, and I wish him and my sister-in-law a lifetime of happiness."He cried even harder after that.I gently took Jeremy's hand and whispered to him, "Honey, I love you."In that moment, I truly felt like I was finally, completely happy....Rowan's P.O.VI couldn't believe it. Angela had actually married Jeremy. She had once loved me so deeply. She'd confessed her feelings for me, even standing out in the pouring rain while doing that. She had said, "Rowan, I love you. Will you be my boyfriend?"At the time, I looked at her innocent face and told myself I couldn't be with her. She was my sister, after all.But then, when she turned eighteen, I drank a lot, and all I could think about was her. My feelings for her overwhelmed me. I went to find her, kissed her, and told her I loved her.But the next morning, I regretted it. I couldn't bear the thought of people mocking me for being with my father's adopted daughter.Still, I couldn't bring myself to rejec

The next morning, Jeremy left early to grab breakfast. While he was out, Rowan came into my room. "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?" "Huh?" He let out a sarcastic laugh. "Angela, stop with these petty games, will you? I'm not going to fall for you." "I have no idea what you're talking about." I stared at him, feeling like he'd completely lost his mind. "You didn't show up for my wedding, skipped my kid's celebration, and now, all of a sudden, you're getting married? You're obviously trying to get under my skin! I have to say, I'm impressed. You've come up with so many new ways to piss me off," he spoke with a grin. "But your tricks won't work on me."I couldn't help but laugh. "Wow, Rowan. Did you take something to make you this paranoid? Jeremy and I are getting married because we love each other. And for the record, I had no idea you were Jeremy's cousin before this." "What are you..." His face darkened instantly. "You used to love me, didn't you?" "You'

About a month later, I received a call from one of Rowan's friends. "Angela, Rowan is hosting a party for the baby tomorrow. Would you like to come?" I had no idea why he was asking me. After all, he knew perfectly well that Rowan and I had fallen out completely. "I'm not going," I said bluntly, preparing to hang up. Suddenly, Rowan's voice came through the phone. "Angela, are you really so busy lately that you can't even come to your nephew's celebration?" "Rowan, you're unbelievably contradictory. You told me not to come back, and I respected that. Now you're asking why I'm not attending your party and keeping my amulet hostage. What exactly do you want from me?" There was silence on the other end. He didn't bother answering my question and simply hung up. I blocked the number. I didn't want to have any more contact with them. Later, I stopped by the company. My latest song had gone viral, earning a lot of money. After discussing my future work plans, the boss

I would never love him again. After landing, Jeremy was there to pick me up. He rushed over and gave me a big hug. "I'm so glad you're back!" he said, his voice full of joy. "Let's go grab a bite to eat. I just got my driver's license, so I can drive you."Jeremy was a strong and cheerful guy. Before all of this, I had been keeping my distance from him and rejecting his advances, yet he never gave up on pursuing me. I truly admired his persistence.Once in the car, he began talking non-stop. "I bought some tissues for you and put them in the glove compartment. They're unscented, just the way you like them."He took me to eat, and before we sat down, he told the waiter not to add mushrooms to the dishes. I was surprised. I hadn't realized he remembered that I didn't like mushrooms—or that I preferred scentless tissues. He noticed me staring at him and smiled. "What's with the look?" he asked."Nothing.""I can tell you're thinking about something. Are you realizing now

But now, he had a child with someone else.I noticed Rowan staring at me, so I forced a smile and asked, "Rowan, what's the baby's name?""Harbor," Samantha answered quickly. "Rowan said he prayed for him to be safe and sound all his life, so we named him Harbor."I froze.Because a long time ago, Rowan had said to me, "If we have a son, let's name him Harbor. We'll pray that he lives a happy life."The irony hit me all at once.I didn't want to stay any longer, so I told them I wasn't feeling well and quickly excused myself.I went to the garden to clear my mind. It was where I used to go whenever I felt down.Rowan would always come to keep me company, and talk and play games with me.I was lost in thought when suddenly Rowan appeared beside me."What's wrong?" I couldn't help but laugh. How could he still ask me what was wrong? He knew exactly what was going on."Rowan, do you remember the promises you made to me before?" I asked, looking into his eyes. I used to love

  • The River of Regrets   Chapter 5

Rowan's words shattered my heart completely.I let out a bitter laugh, turned, and walked away without looking back.Someone once told me that promises were the most useless things in the world—what mattered was action. I never believed it before, but now, I did.I took a cab to the Rivers, planning to see Patrick and leave after that.Halfway there, I received a video call from Jeremy Harding."Angela, look at the tulips by the side of the road—they're so beautiful. Coriland is amazing. Are you really not coming back?"He was my classmate. During my year abroad as an exchange student in Coriland, he had been pursuing me relentlessly. I heard he grew up there, so he was more open-minded.Every time he pursued me, it was like a proposal. He'd say, "My dad always told me that when you love someone, you have to go for it right away, or someone else will steal them from you!""I'll be back," I said. "I'll return in three days."His eyes lit up at that....When I arrived at th
